In the past few weeks she has said "Oh ****" and we have had discussions with her - she has only said it about 4 times - so she said it again this morning and I said - if you say that word again I am going to wash your mouth out with soap -

she has been sassing me all day - she has been laying her head on my shoulder and spitting and just generally disobeying me -

so she started spitting on my shirt again and I told her if she disobeyed me, said a bad word, spit on me or sassed me again - I was going to wash her mouth out with soap - she looked right at me and said "Oh ****"

so I washed her mouth out - my DH thinks it is hilarious that she so openly defied me like that b/c he says she is JUST like me!! (don't worry he didn;t laugh in front of her!!)

we are just having a bad day -

OMG!! she just walked in here naked and announced "I am going to do something bad." and left - I better go follow - I think mommy might need to have a night out tonight!!!

Sounds like a battle of the wills to me. Grownups do not need to react. It takes the fuel right out of the fire. Ignore her if at all possible. She's trying to get your goat and she's winning.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I'm sorry, but I had to laugh because that is just how my youngest daughter was. I tell you, it got better when she turned four.

Hang in there, it will get better!

Quick!! Call SuperNanny!!!

Aren't 3 year olds fun??? I have one myself. His big "ugly" word is "Poo Poo Head"

Just lovely, huh?

"It was.....soap poisioning!" from A Christmas Story. That's what I was thinking while reading it! LOL!

I know your post wasn't meant to be funny but that just cracked me up!

Don't worry - I do think it is kinda funny - and I know I was just like her!! If I couldn't laugh about it - I would have pulled all of my hair out today!!

From experience ignoring her works best. If you dont like that idea time outs work but make sure not to talk to her during this time. The 4 year old I know likes to use the word stupid and used to spit but that has stopped. Make sure to let her know when she is being good though.

I had to do this once or twice. :rolleyes1 Not trying to sound too nasty, but liquid hand soap works better..........and that icky taste lasts longer!!! :earseek:

I have to ask: People REALLY do still put soap in a kid's mouth? I wasn't sure if you were being literal or not.

Oh yea - I did it!! Aside from the announcement that she was going to do something bad - which she didn't - her attitude has improved greatly too!!

I used liquid soap and really just kind of brushed it on her teeth and then let her spit it out - she was not pleased but I doubt I caused any major trauma!

Get ready for all of the posts testifying to what a bad parent you are. Do you know what kinds of harmful chemicals are in that soap?????? What could it do to the enamel on her poor teeth?????? You have now stifled her creativity by disallowing her to use colorful words!!!!

I hope this is read with the sarcastic tone that I meant when posting.

I may need to do that myself! DS has been refusing to do things all day. I had to ship some GS cookies, and he didn't want to get out of the car, well he got out all right! Then he wouldn't come in to the post office, and here I am holding a huge, heavy box and the little jerk wouldn't move!!! A lady helped me out by keeping the door open while I walked inside and told him goodbye. That one always works! Poor woman, was trying to coax him saying "looks like mommy is leaving." He ran in when she talked!

That is so funny! Thanks for posting it! I am immersed in parenting a 3 yr old myself. It is a trying experience. :rotfl:

Wow, I thought I was the only one with a spitter! Ds has outgrown it, so there is hope for you... just thought I'd post this since whenever I mentioned the word spitting, everyone was appalled and horrified, just looked at me pitifully like we were hopeless or crazy. I used to put him in time out and hold him down with a towel over his face when I had to...fun! It does get easier! edit to add that I didn't hold the towel, just his arms and legs so that he wouldn't get up and run and I wouldn't get hit or kicked.

Um, not to sound like a jerk or anything, but where is a 3 year old learning that phrase? My kids never heard that until they were older from peers. We have always watched our language in our home because they're so impressionable. Just my 2 cents.

:rotfl2: don't you ever wish you could do that?

Well, I can't imagine liquid soap being any worse that bar so soap, but if you say so Colleen! I'm 40yo and I can STILL rememeber what soap tasted like. If I look at a bar of soap long enough, I can taste it! And I only remember mom doing it once. Definitely cured me of "colorful" words!

Not only did my DD act just like that, she also has the dark brown ringlets that made her look an angelic Shirley Temple type as well. I bet you get a lot of comments from strangers about how cute she is.
