I just don't know how to react

My 13 yo just told me that she almost fell out of a tree on friday. Not, just slipped a little, but a full, only her leg hooking onto a branch upside down, saved her, kind of "almost".

I don't want to take trees away from her, I don't want to make it into what it's not. She's still alive and kicking and nothing broken. But sheesh I want to put her in a cushioned room so nothing ever happens to her.

So, I just hugged her and said I'm glad she's alright. I checked her injuries, nothing serious, just a leg that is black and blue.

No one ever warned me about this. :confused3

I'm glad she did not sustain a serious injury. I hope she stays safe during her adventures.

I loved to play in trees too. She is old enough to use some caution. Please just tell her that she can never climb a tree with a Hoodie or any other shirt with string. A child near hear last year was accidentally hanged by climbing. Luckily I think it is a phase she will out grow fast.
Any rock climbing gyms in your area? You might want to look at that to let her do her climbing with more saftey precautions.

Poor thing.

We had a tree issue today with my 7 year old daughter also. It was one of those coronary moments that my DH told me about two hours after it happened.

just so there wernt any boys in that tree you should be ok :)

Hopefully the scare was enough to make her think more sensibly about climbing a taller tree. When i was little i fell out of a tree but ended up just being bruised, and i don't think i climbed any more trees with my brothers after that. At 13, i'd be very cautious what to tell her NOT to do, because i was very rebellious at that age...

It's hard to think of the 'what if'. You can make yourself crazy doing it.

My sister's boys both ride ATV's and she tells them that unless they need medical attention she doesn't want to hear about it when they get back. Freaks her out too much.

Myst

Thanks Katholyn.

That's a good suggestion canwegoagain, I'll look into it.

Cindy, I hope it wasn't too serious.

No boys Jason, thank goodness.

Kimberly, I'll remember that.

Wendy, my gray hairs are in hiding right now, but things like this is enough to give me more, that's for sure.

Dan, I can well imagine.

Mysteria, yeah, I have taken that policy with my oldest. She likes to tell me things just to see me go nuts.

Well maybe she was climbing the tree to look at boys...hmmm guess that present entirely a different set of problems.

I'm glad she is okay.
I fell out trees growing up and see how I turned out?(maybe that isnt a good example)

It's probably a good thing we don't know everything, haha. I know this shook you up.

I fell out of a tree once, directly on my head. I was so embarrassed, I never told my mom even though my head & neck were killing me(I probably had a concussion). And I didn't tell her about the strange man who bought me ice cream, or the dog bite, or the fight at school...you get my drift. Love her up and let her go again

:teeth: She's been up in my tree a few times since. So far, so good.

I was a tree climber, and learned real quick to keep the "almosts" to myself. The good thing is that the "almosts" taught me to be more cautious

This is why there were some things my mother never found out.

God knows I gave her enough gray hairs as a kid with what did happen without adding to them with what could have happened!!!!! ;)

I used to climb trees but luckily I never fell. My mother would catch me sometimes and stand at the bottom threatening me. Like THAT would make me come down! ;)
