You mean I'm not invited over for dinner tonight? :guilty: :rotfl2: Guess it'll be egg salad sandwiches (lord knows we've got enough hard-boiled Easter eggs) for my crew tonight! Served with a side of the mumps, of course. mmm...

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet but the news report I heard said that the mumps vacine was not 100% effective.

Hope you are feeling all better soon. :grouphug:

Yep, I read that too. And that this seems to be a new strain, I think.

It's amazing to me that the vaccination may not protect people from getting the mumps! I had mumps as a child, but my kids had their MMR's & I hope they protect them!

Sorry to hear you have the mumps. Here in Iowa we have been hit really hard. It has been in the news for weeks now.

Hope your feeling better soon! I heard today on the news that they think they linked the outbreak to 2 people that traveled to the U.K. They made several flight stops on their way back to Iowa. That would suck to be linked to causing such an outbreak! :sad2:

How are you feeling today?

MUCH better, thanks for asking. The swelling is down to about the size of a quarter under my ear. My editor and my publisher both think I should work from home "just in case" since the CDC says I'm contagious for 9 days since symptoms appeared (last Friday). I'm so grateful that I get to work from home and don't have to claim five sick or vacation days.

I can't believe the mumps are back. Measles were going around in the mid-west about 5 years, and now the mumps. What about Ruebella, the R in MMR.

Glad to hear it. That's great that you can work from home.

I swear, I didn't go to Bloomington this week!

(But I did go to an outlet mall in Indiana yesterday. Hey! I needed a doctor's-prescribed Coach purse to cure me!!)

You probably got it on the airplane. On the news, they said that is how the outbreak started. One person sick on an airplane can rapidly spread an illness to many others.

I had the mumps as a kid. Not fun. DD was vacinated when she was very little. I heard that the vacination will not prevent someone from getting the mumps, but they should have a lighter case. Even so, I hope it doesn't make it to Florida.

OP, how you feel better soon!

Yeah, lets hope it doesn't get to WDW!!

Did you have the bloodwork that confirms it? It takes 3-4 days to get back.

Reason I ask. One of the children at our church had ALL the classic symptoms just as you described. Even his parents felt flu like and had headaches. Local hospital was 99.9% sure it was mumps. We started to notify parents of the possibility while awaiting confirmation from bloodwork. It would have been the first case in our state.

3 days later, bloodwork was NEGATIVE. There is a virus going around that has the same symptoms of mumps but is not mumps. THANKFULLY!

All that to say - the doc can't know for sure until the bloodwork is done. Your local health dept will likely require the bloodwork before reporting it as a true case as there have been many 'look' like it that didn't end up being it.
