Hey-Yo All!

I have no idea how the whole rent DVC points / reservations thing works and would appreciate any help that you all can give.

Here is what we want to do.....

There will be six of us 2 - 40 somethings; 2 - 20 yo; 2 - 17 yo

We are looking for a 2 or 3 bedroom for 12/26/07 - 1/1/08 (I know highest/busiest time)

We would want to be able to purchase Disney Dining and 7 day hoppers. I know the tickets are no problem and I've heard you can buy the DDP if you are staying at a DVC resort on points.

I have looked into getting:
3 rooms at a value standard room only ($2612.52)
2 rooms at WL woods view bunkbed room only ($5467.68)
1 cabin FW room only ($2531.28) I fear being crowded.

Any advice on renting DVC points or reservation would be awesome - I think we would be happy with any of the DVC properties.

Look at the top of this page and figure out how many points you would need for your stay at the requested resort. Multiply that by anywhere from $10 a point to $15 a point. If you want the three bedroom villa (Grand Villa), they are limited in number and you will need a member who has that resort to make a day by day reservation. So you will probably pay a bunch more for the reservation.

This time period goes quickly, so you'll want a member with the home resort advantage - points where you want to stay. They can make the reservation 11 months ahead of time.

Post your request on the Rent/Trade Board and see what happens. Post what size villa you want, where you want it and see what happens.

Figure on somewhere around $4000 to $6000 for the reservation not including DDP.

Be aware that cancellation policies for DVC members are not like CRO reservations. Most owners are going to want half up front, then are going to want the rest a few months away from your vacation. If you need to cancel your trip, the member may not have the flexibility to work with you to refund your money. Also keep in mind that this is a private transaction - you will be working with an individual owner, not with Disney, and Disney will not get involved - you will have to do everything through your owner. Most owners don't rent DVC like a business, so you won't have the sort of instant response you get from CRO.

Not sure that renting DVC points from Dec 26 through Dec 31 is all that attractive. At current rental rates those 6 nights are going to run you $4,500 give or take for the 400 or so points required for a 2 Br. You might do better getting 2 rooms through Disney, even at rack. Also, the Swan/Dolphin sometimes have great rates during this time, compared to Disney rack rates.

The nights in January are definitely worth renting as those 8 nights will only cost you a little more than $3,000 for the 300 or so reuired points for a 2 Br.

If you are looking at two weeks you may want to split your stay anyway. Spend some time in an Epcot resort on cash and avoid the high point costs of DVC at the end of December, then move to a DVC resort, I'd suggest VWL, in January.

I think they were only looking for Dec 26, 2007 through Jan 1, 2008.
