I have my Red Card and Pharmacy rewards - but no Disney trip planned

OK. I am stunned. I just read this thread & had no idea people sold these on eBay. I just got 2 in the mail and was trying to figure out how to best use then. I am very tempted to list one. It seems like it is too good to be true. Why would someone pay over $100 for a 5% discount? If I were to do it, does target find out somehow & it affect my card or ability to be in the program? Thanks to anyone who knows...

I am assuming they are making a large purchase (disney cards, flat screen, etc) where they would save several hundred. I don't see why target would have a problem with it - at least I hope not! :confused3

No, just $1,000...they combine the 5% coupon with thier 5% RED card discount

But they only save an additional 5% with the purchased pharmacy rewards. Assuming they have a REDcard they would already get that 5%.

So they are spending $100 to save 5%.

Spending $100 to save an 'additional' 5% is more along the lines of what they do. Most people buying these are buying stuff that costs a lot, as in electronics or gift cards (like Disney to pay off trips). If i'm buying $5,000 worth of gifts cards, spending $100 for the coupon, i'm still saving $400 by doing so.

ETA- I just re-read your post and totally see what you're saying. It's still a much bigger savings by buying the extra coupon, though.

If someone is making that large of a purchase yes spending $100 to save 5% makes sense. So you save an extra net $150 on $5k that would be worth it.

But for the average joe, it wouldn't make sense. I have never spent $2,000 anywhere other than 1) furniture store, 2) car dealership or 3)buying a house.

Hi,

I just wanted to add to the Thank you's! I read this post yesterday, listed one of the in-store and 2 online only and they sold within hours for $150 bucks!!! :woohoo:

How do you send the online one to them? Actually mail it or just send them the code? I have an online one I was going to throw away until I saw this.

I also had the black friday 20% off coupn I threw away- want to cry now.

I just got my red card a week ago and in the "rules" it says it cannot be used for gift cards. ? Which is the whole reason why I got it in the first place. Maybe I'll give it a try anyways.

The rule only applies to Target gift cards. Target considers Disney, restaurant, etc. cards as "entertainment cards" not gift cards.

You could probably just scan or take a pic and email it to them if they're comfortable with that. In my experience, I have been able to use the online ones after the expiration too!

It's worth a shot to list it and see what happens, eBay only takes a cut when it sells, as long as you don't list more than so many things in a month.

Good for you! I listed one, and so far there's one bid for $.99. It's the first time I've sold on eBay, so I wonder if that's part of why so few bids. I'm glad yours worked out so well for you!

When you sell the cards, how do you send them. I am now considering this as I get at least 2 a month and often can not use them, but I am worried about someone buying it and then saying they did not receive it. Do you send it with signature required or tracing?

You learn something everyday on a Disney board. I had no idea. I've been throwing them away since I"m not actively buying GCs now. I have 9 prescriptions a month for just myself. I get these all the time it seems. I can't wait to get home and see if I have any laying around on my desk

I send mine Priority 2 day in a flat rate envelope, with insurance (tracking is included in Priority). I usually comes out to around $8 or so.

Those selling, don't forget you will pay fees. eBay invoices you once a month for sales, their cut is 10% of final sell price. PayPal also gets a cut, they take that immediately from the payment when the buyer pays you (mine has been around $5 each for the coupons i've sold). Regardless, still not a bad deal :thumbsup2

Holy moly, I had no idea these things sell on ebay. I have let so many of them expire! Why do they go for so much? It looks like they routinely go for $100 or more. I don't get it, it is 5%. A person would have to spend $2000 in one day to break even if they bought it for $100. Is it that some people are so greedy for a "deal" but they can't do the math? Even on a day when I bought a patio full of furniture I haven't spent $2000 in one day in Target. It's like how used Disney tickets that may not even work at the gate will go for more on ebay than they cost new from Disney. I just do not get it. Gift cards some times sell for more than their face value. What am I missing?

The rule only applies to Target gift cards. Target considers Disney, restaurant, etc. cards as "entertainment cards" not gift cards.

That wording isn't official and if you call Target customer service or speak to managers they will tell you that is not correct. They do not officially classify anything as Entertainment, it is just sometimes how the label prints and how people post it on this forum to make it make sense.
Target's Redcard excludes "Target GiftCards" NOT gift cards (note difference in specificity). It's subtle, but it is the reason that they didn't have to accept the 20% coupon last December because the coupon excluded gift cards, not "Target GiftCards". I know some people got away with it, but Target sent out an official release that it absolutely was not to be honored for this same reason.
For now, the 5% Credit/Debit and pharmacy rewards all stack toward any gift card that is not a Target GiftCard.

I keep trying to figure out what the scam is with the pharmacy rewards card on ebay. Not a scam from the sellers perspective but the buyers. They all seem to be selling over $100, I just can't believe that so many people are making HUGE target purchases. Can they get any info other then your name from the coupon? Is it in any way possible it's linked to your info? (sounds far fetched but I can't come up with any reason otherwise). Has anyone been selling them for awhile and had no issues? I was at the Target Pharmacy yesterday and asked about it, thinking if it was a scam they might have heard something, but no one had ever heard of it!

My questions exactly........I don't understand the high price the buyers are paying. I'd like to sell mine, but in my experience if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

Are online 5% codes selling too? I often use the 5% in-store card but never the online ones.
