I have kind of a long story to share

We've had a heck of a week.

Last Friday night, my husband was watching TV in the bedroom, while my 13 year old and I watched in the living room. She heard something from the bedroom, and went to investigate. She found my husband on the floor, in the midst of his first ever seizure. I called 911, and that seizure was followed by at least 4 more in the next few hours.

He's been in the ICU all week. He aspirated at some time that night, so we've added pneumonia to his issues. He's had 2 A-Fib episodes, so cardiology is up there too.

But his prognosis is good. There's no sign of the brain damage I had so feared, and he WILL recover. Those first few days, that was far from a given.

But that's not the story I wanted to share.

He's a teacher at a local Catholic high school. The seniors are in WDW right now, on their Senior Trip, and my husband was supposed to be there with them.

Knowing that, and knowing my husband's love for WDW, the kids passed the hat before leaving. The night before the trip, we were presented with a check for $4000 so that my husband and I could go to WDW.

We'll add to that, and bring the kids. We actually already have reservations that we were planning to cancel; my oldest starts college a month later and there was no way we could do both.

So we'll scale back our original plans, but we'll spend a few days in WDW this summer, celebrating both my husband's recovery and the kindness of the kids he teaches.

I read so many stories about teens, and have always said that teenagers are the mostly poorly publicized group of kids out there. I've taught since 1980, and the overwhelming number of kids I've taught have been kind and considerate and willing to go above and beyond to help others.

This is just one indication that I've been right all along.

1 - Super sweet kids that your hubby teachers :)

2) Prayers for a speedy recovery. I have seizures as well, and they are the scarriet thing to witness

((HUGS))

Prayers and good thoughts for recovery, heath and happiness for all of you -- and a fabulous vacation to cap it off!

That is so sweet. I agree with you about teenagers being poorly publicized. You usually only hear about the unruly ones. It is great to hear about the good ones too.

Prayers for you family. I'm glad to hear there is a silver lining and he will be recovering. I know that was a very scary time for you all.

I agree. It's a pet peeve of mine when people begin to go on and on about how "back in my day . . ." or "these kids have it so easy today." I don't know about anyone else, but simply the competitive nature of college applications and the enormous increases in college costs alone are Exhibits A and B why it's not easy to be a teen today, amongst many other challenges they face that I know I didn't.

As a mom of two teens I was crying reading your story. Thank you for sharing it. I wish the best for your husband.

Hugs and prayers for your husband.

And yes there are a lot of great teenagers out there...some with a great moral core values. Caritas!

What a sad and lovely story at the same time. I will pray for your husband and your family as well as the students he teaches. How sweet of them. We have teenagers and they have some really great friends - who are so good to our family - that we are treating 3 of them to a DW trip this summer - otherwise they couldn't afford it. I agree that they don't get a good rap.

Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day! :flower1:

I'm glad your husband is going to fully recover. I have a teen and have been fortunate to witness 1st hand the kindness that her friends and she show towards others. Of course they have their moments but we all do. I hope you have a wonderful trip.

I have no words other than you made my day today. I wish your DH a full and quick recovery! My oldest has suffered seizures, and thankfully he is okay.

I wish your husband the best of recoveries--and I fully agree with you about teens these days. Thanks for sharing what your husband'S students did.

Oh my goodness... I am so glad your husband will be okay. That is so scary!

I am so happy to see that you will have such a good outcome with both his health and the generosity of his students. That is a great story!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your husband, and I love the story about the students collecting money to send you to WDW. It's great to hear stories like that about teens - it seems we hear too much of the negative stuff and not enough of the positive. Also, their kindness clearly indicates how much they like and respect your husband - he must be a great teacher!

I wish your husband a full healthy recovery. In addition to showing the quality of teens, it shows what great people you and your husband are that people are willing to be so generous. It's obvious you and your husband have left a lasting impact.

How are you and your daughter doing? I know it must have been scary for her to find him like that and the stress you've both had must be tough. I'm glad that things are looking up. And YAY for the students. What a great thing!

Awesome teens. Many of them are. They get a bum rap, IMO. And, this proves it.

Best wishes to your husband and your family.

It sounds like your DH is a wonderful teacher and his students are blessed for him having taught them, just as he is blessed for having them in his classes. Glad that he is doing better and will be making a full recovery.

That's awesome. I agree, there are some really great teens out there.

I wish your husband a speedy recovery, and hope you and the kids are doing ok, as well. :grouphug:

Wishing your husband a speedy recovery!

Knowing how loved he is by his students warms my heart. Enjoy your vacation together.
