I have how many food pix? Time for a dining review!! Completed!

I had the Banana Split Cake and Chef Yoly Lazo gave me the recipe for it. I'd love to try making the chocolate pretzel in case you still have the recipe from the DVC Magazine and don't mind posting or scanning and sending it. We have a Disney Recipe Exchange 'cause it's always fun to try the Disney foods at home.

Oh that sounds great! I would love to surprise DH with the Banana Split dessert some time!

I'll start digging for the old DVC magazine. DS usually squirrels them away so I'll check with him first ;)

This is the poolside snack area at the Stormalong Bay pool at the Yacht and Beachs Clubs/Beach Club Villas. It isn't a destination eating establishment, but it's very good for what it is, and the location and atmosphere of eating by the huge pool makes it even better!

We had a lunch there one afternoon in December. DH made the trek over while DS and I hung out and swam.

The kids meals come in a sand bucket with a shovel and are definitely useful in and around the pool. It is DS's "tradition" to always get one every trip. This time he chose a cheeseburger meal with grapes and an apple. He then took two bites of the cheeseburger and handed it over to DH. That was when we decided we needed a photo:

This is very eh. Probably not up there with the best kid's burgers of the World, but again - it was filling and tasted better with the smell of chlorine around us.

Here is the bucket with the grapes:

Typical Disney red grapes, nice presentation

DH had a burger and fries and I am amazed we don't have a photo...!

He ordered a chicken flatbread for me. I LOVE this sandwich but it is very messy.

Allears description: Grilled Chicken Flatbread $7.19
served with red pepper hummus, mixed greens and yogurt-cucumber sauce

Again -this is really tasty and I love it (but I love hummus something fierce!) and it is MESSY! But we just get extra napkins and life is good. :goodvibes

My stomach is growling!! Never thought we would eat at Flametree since DH won't eat BBQ- but after seeing the turkey sandwich and that yummy looking fruit plate- YUMMO! We will be eating there in December and also enjoying my fav pie KEY LIME..... who knew it could be so good..

Keep up the review!

Bev

At the beginning of our November trip we spent the first few nights at the AKL. It was Thanksgiving week and we just loved it! I really love Boma and always wondered about Jiko, so we decided to give it a try. DS spent the evening at Simba's Cubhouse.

One note about this evening: I hate the tables for two in some restaurants. Jiko and Le Cellier come to mind. They are so small, which is one thing, but they are close enough to each other that you end up practically eating with strangers. Yet the tables for four do not have that same issue. This evening we "sat with" a very nice couple who were also on a date with their kids being babysat and another nice young couple who were on their first day of their trip and tracked everything they ate and drank in a largish PDA of some sort, complete with comments and thoughts. They were even able to go back in and look up a dinner they had had at a different restaurant and compare it to the meal they ordered. (This isn't a rip on them - it's nice that they can share their hobby with each other).

And no. We didn't actually converse with either couple, we were just THAT CLOSE. :(

But the service? Oh my GOSH was it impeccable! If anyone ever feels they are treated any different because of the DDP at Jiko then they didn't have our server. He was just wonderful.

I only took photos of the desserts because it was just so elegant and quiet with the darkness outside the huge windows and the Christmas wreaths and to be honest...I didn't want to disturb our "table mates" with my flash.

Plus there are about 4000 photos of the items we got on the DIS already...:thumbsup2

DH started with a flatbread featuring...what else? BBQ:

Barbecued Chicken Flatbread - with grilled onions, apple julienne, and four cheeses

This was really very good - he liked it, I thought it was different but good. I have only recently started eating meat and fruit together (never liked it before) and the granny smith type tart apple just worked with the chicken and BBQ (Kenyan Coffee BBQ Sauce, I believe) sauce.

I ordered (queue Angels singing...):

Kalamata Olive Flatbread - with four cheeses, and Laura Chenel's soft goat cheese

Oh....YUM! I have a tremendous weak spot for olives and I love cheese. And the combination and the tangy goat cheese was just amazing. I wanted so desperately to eat the whole thing and if we hadn't ordered entrees, I probably would have. Another comment on the service? We were so unrushed, I almost wished our server would have come back sooner to snatch the plate away.

Yup. To me it was THAT good!

For dinner we both ordered the filet mignon with macaroni and cheese and wine sauce. I ordered mine the way it was supposed to come and DH ordered his with the sauce on the side.

This was the best filet I had on both trips and the mac and cheese was amazing. Two of my favorite foods anyway, together they were wonderful. The wine sauce was thick and rich and the flavor was perfect with both the filet and with the mac and cheese.

This made me glad I hadn't eaten the whole flatbread!

And for dessert? I ordered a mocha, and our server he didn't think they had those, but he could put some chocolate syrup in a cappucino for me.

Good nuff!

He was very sweet, making sure his "concoction" was up to snuff. Such a sweetheart!

My actual dessert was something I thought was on the menu for Thanksgiving week, but it's still listed on allears:

Autumn Spiced Pumpkin Roll - (no sugar added) with apple and cranberry compote, cinnamon ice cream and finshed with grated nutmeg

jikopumpkindesserr.jpg

The cranberry apple compote was tangy and sweet and was perfect with the ice cream and fresh nutmeg. The cream cheese filling in the cake was also very good. The cake? Imagine taking a spice cake and squishing it between two bricks until it was completely flat. Then dry it out for a few days until it's flat and chewy. Then add cream cheese filling.

It wasn't icky - just weird and not worth eating more than a few bites.

But the rest of it was top notch, and the rest of my meal and mocha make Jiko a must return for me!

DH ordered something pretty, chocolate and good (sorry - blurry photo!):

jikodessert.jpg

I don't remember for sure, but I think it could be the: Tanzanian Chocolate Cheesecake - with chocolate ganache, Amarula sauce, and lavender ice cream. We both thought it was extremely good.

In short: loved Jiko, but would prefer a table for four and could skip dessert and enjoy flatbreads and filet. Great evening!!

Thanks for the review of Jiko. I've never been there and that fillet with mac n cheese sounds delightfully good. We'll have to get there someday.

my stomach is growling so loudly! thanks for the great reviews...your pics are amazing! :dance3:

Just wondering- is Jiko 2 credits on the DDP? The steak/mac combo sounds so good, my DH would love it and it would give us a reason to visit the AKL once again.

Thanks-
Bev

It is - but to us it was way worth it. Little things...there is a nice basket with a curry (?) spiced butter. I ordered Evian as my beverage and it was a huge bottle and I never touched it once - our server was always right there to pour it for me. The ingredients tasted so fresh and decadent and the whole experience was a signature event.

I hope to go back there in July with DH and we don't plan to be on the DDP. We do have the DDE card and since we prefer appetizers to desserts (we love to get sweet treats later on) I'm willing to pay OOP for this wonderful restaurant. :thumbsup2

Compared to Yachtsman Steakhouse, Brown Derby and Narcoosee's (the only other 2TS's we have been to) I would rank it right at the top with Yachtsman.

Loving the report. From one Wisconsinite to another, I understand the cheese addiction and being a brat snob! Nothing like a good fresh Johnsonville right from the factory....
Keep the reports coming. We were at WDW approx. the same time as you but we were at CBR. I have nothing planned as of now, so these reports and picutres are feeding my soul.

Thanks!

My DH makes fun of me looking at my "food porn" first thing in the morning however this morning he happened to be next to me when I got to your Earl of Sandwhich pic. He is a LOVER of all sandwhiches and now is a food porn Junkie! Thank You

Man! I'm getting hungry. Can't wait for our October trip and eating our way around the World!

Can't wait for more. Yummy!

DH laughs at me taking photos, but he's always right behind me when I check out the food porn threads and he reminds me to take photos of anything I forget...:rotfl:

This is a tradition for us, as it is for many WDW guests. DS loves the Pirate Cruises at the Beach Club and Grand Floridian so DH and I always have breakfast while he's cruising at either Spoodles or Kona Cafe.

DH gets his usual - the same thing every time. The Big Kahuna Platter:

This is everything you need for a huge breakfast: scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, ham, macadamia nut pancakes, pineapple and french toast. He absolutely loves this - everything is always fresh and delicious and it has made Kona a favorite. :thumbsup2

konaplatter.jpg

The last time we went to Kona I ordered the Macadamia Nut Pancakes with a side of sausage. I'll do a review of these and it will probably be one of those negative reviews most people will read and think: WOW! I have GOT to get me some of those!!!

I love pancakes and I love butter. The macadamia nut pancakes are served with macadamia nut sweetened butter and warm crushed pineapple. Three huge pancakes full of macadamia nuts go perfectly with the butter (which is amazing good) and the fruit. Now I love Macadamias. I do. But these pancakes just had too many of them. Not one single bite was free of at least three of them - and three would be a small bite. I ate as much as I could and then swapped with DH, who had the Kahuna platter - at the time the pancakes on the platter were plain.

The whole meal was just delicious and if you love nuts, you HAVE to order it, but in the end it was just too many nuts and not enough soft pancake for me.

Here's a photo from last year (I had requested the butter and pineapple on the side):

See? Macadamia City!

So this year? Blueberry baby!!!

From the top:

Where are those blueberries, you ask? Well flip 'em over!

konabberrypancakesII.jpg

These were SO good!

On the way out, I took a quick photo of the pastry display at the Kona Coffee counter:

All in all - we love this place and someday need to take DS with us!

Oh, yum! That all looks so good and you gave me a great idea. We are definitely going to Kona for b'fast, but I couldn't decide on mac. pancakes or Tonga Toast. But...if DH gets a big kahuna (which I can see him doing) I can trade half my Tonga Toast for his pancakes! :cheer2: We all win! You have now solved my problem of the day! :worship:

Awesome idea! Plus - I've had the Tonga Toast before and you will be more than happy with half of it (especially if you can still have the pancakes! ;) )

Kona breakfast is SO good!

Great pictures! I always get Tonga Toast at Kona, but those pancakes look so good- I can never make them like that at home.

Also, that turkey sandwich looks awesome! I've never ordered it because I assumed it would be like thin lunchmeat turkey.
