Sorry to all you Walmart fans out there, but I absoluetely cannot stand that store.

My sister seems to think that everyone in our family loves Walmart, and as such, we all get Walmart gift cards for birthday, Christmas and any other occasion that comes up.

We very infrequently go there, but thats the closest store to her home.

Today we went to spend my sons birthday gift card and his Christmas gift card. Nothing in toys that he liked.. only had babyish stuff, and no Legos that were not the bigger baby kind. There were no Quantum Leap pad books, and no Knex that weren't the younger kid ones.

Electronics we did not fare any better. He wasn't interested in any DVD's or music CD's that they had handy. Xbox games were extremely picked over and only lousy selection left.

He also wanted an Eagles jersey. No Eagles jersey in boys. We decided to try in mens (he could wear a small mens), and they only had 2x and 3x in mens Eagles jerseys.

Journeyed back to toys, and he picked up Star Wars monopoly.

My daughter didn't see anything in toys that didn't look cheap or poorly made.

She also looked at Gamecube games and there was nothing left that she was interested in. (only simpsons games!)

We looked at watches and she saw a few watches (Timex pooh and Eeyore), and she wasn't that crazy about it. She found a Barbie watch she loved and bought.

We spent about an hour in the store but couldn't find anything else.

I had to return a Black and Decker Home Cafe, and I couldn't get cash! Great yet another Walmart gift card. I might just buy a DVD player, provided that they have more than the lousy $29 ones that they had today.

I even looked at the Christmas paper/ leftovers. The paper was more expensive per square foot than Target. I could get a 130 sq. foot roll for $1.50. There at Walmart they had 40 sq. foot rolls for 75 cents.. it was a better deal for more square footage at Target.

Maybe this is just a lousy store, but I can never find anything there. I sit in amazement when people leave with carts full of stuff. There was boxes in the aisles, and stuff all over the place.

My son gets so disappointed because the selection is so lousy there. We do sometimes go to another Walmart, but its always packed with people, and can never find anything.

Is this typical of Walmarts? If it had a grocery store it would be more useful to me. This is just stuff...

Were the shelves pretty empty? DH went there yesterday and said it was really picked over. Maybe wait a few weeks and see if they get more stuff in. :D

Would they like any movies or music?

Wal-Mart is always picked over right after Christmas. Give them a little time to restock.

They looked at movie, music and books. No decent movies out that they wanted.. tons of the 2/$11 crap movies, but nothing new that they want.

Music, well, my son looked and couldn't find anything he liked (he's not really into the stuff thats out)

Books, there were tons and tons and tons of Harlequins, but only Junie b. Jones, Magic Tree House, and Bionicle book sets. The other books they had were Harry Potter (he has all 5), Lemony Snicket (he didn't like those), and Artemis Fowl (he has all those). We even looked in the art set area, and they only had construction paper.

I also dislike Wal-Mart. It really seems that no matter what section of town the store is in, it's just a trashy mess. I'll only go in there to buy my Sex and the City dvds since they are so cheap!

Can you use the giftcards at Wal-Mart online? There probably is a better selection of stuff, and you don't have to step foot in the store.

I hate Wal-Mart also.

I think Walmarts "better than all the rest attitude" caught them red handed this year which lead to complete underordering of stuff and complete understaffing of people to sell what little stufff they did get in...

I think my Mart is a prime example of this- So I can talk.. :P

Give my poor dept till end of Jan to start looking like a former glory of itself... Course when I'm now the *only* toy person left besides the mgr.. (and I work 3 days!) It may take longer.. so ask me in July how we are doing... :(

Did you really expect to find anything worthwhile on the shelves 2 days after Christmas? Not trying to be a smart aleck, but it only stands to reason there was nothing left at this particular point in time..

It always amazes me when people receive gift cards/certificates for Christmas and then rush out the next day to spend them.. More than likely they're going to end up "settling" - rather than getting something they really need or want -because the goods simply aren't there (through no fault of the particular stores in question, I might add)..

I definitely would have waited a few weeks before using the gift cards so as not to be disappointed..:(

Hopefully your kids ended up with something they liked anyhow..:)

Walmart in my area is always perfect! I can't ever get enough there! Are you serious about the Lego? My Walmart has a whole two aisles of just older boys lego!

I love Walmart. Pretty much every time I want something, they have it.

I think the big problem is that its right after the holidays. Give it some time to restock the shelves.

I really like ours, its VERY clean and you wont see anything on the floor! I had to return some items to WalMart yesterday and with no receipt got cash, yay! Got the kids some toys, and to my surprise, BRAND NEW toys that just came out! I was thrilled!
On the other hand, Target wouldnt let me return my daughters PJs for even a gift card, I had to exchange them for different PJs- isnt that odd?? The toy I returned there was on clearance so I only got the clearance price for it on a gift card, just odd to me.
D.D.

Maybe it's just certain stores. When I was in college (6 years ago), our town had 2 or 3 and they were pretty nice. There's a new one near my house here and it's awful. I only go there if it's absolutely necessry.

I remember seeing news footage last year of the day after xmas. They showed all these people racing into walmart as soon as it opened. You could not pay me to go anywhere near that chaos. These people looked like they were homeless.

I would wait a few weeks until the shelves are stocked again. I'm sure you'll be able to find something.

My Walmart sells the same toys that Toys R Us & Target sells. They are not cheaper made versions. It has every new DVD that come out. Legos, K'Nex & a whole isle of leap Frog toys. Maybe they just haven't restocked their shelves yet. :)

nope they only had a quarter of the aisle for Lego, and only two older boys sets. (Star Wars/ no Harry Potter). One older boys Star Wars set my son already has, and he wasn't crazy about the other one.

OTOH, the Star Wars Monopoly is missing pieces.. back to Walmart again! AARRGH!

Amazingly, I went to Target the day after Christmas to find sparkling aisles, full shelves, and lots of advertised stuff.

They had the clearance areas well marked, and it wasn't a madness.

I went to two Targets in two different towns and saw the same sparkling stores. At Walmart its just chaos all the time.

I'm not a big fan of Walmart either. There have been several Mom & Pop stores which survived several generations but couldn't survive WALMARTs move into the neighborhood. It's a shame because I don't believe there is quality stuff available at WALMART.

My Target is always clean & nice too. I love both my Walmart & Target. :) But, when a store is spotless the day after Christmas I have to wonder, when did they clean. Didn't they give their employees off for the holiday? I'd rather know that their employees had a well deserved day off than have sparkling shelves. :) Working Christmas just stinks.

They upgraded all the stores to Super Walmarts and I love them!

Did you really expect fully stocked shelves the day after Christmas, especially considering most WalMarts closed at 6 or 7 on Christmas Eve, and just reopened yesterday morning?
The target here stocks about 2/3 the toys that Walmart does (same toys, wlamarts are not cheaper versions) priced at about 25-50% more. I'd much rather have a Walmart card. Targets clothing is better quality, but everything else they carry can be found at Walmart for a much cheaper price.
