I Hate Walmart!

I think it's asking a bit much to expect the shelves to have items 2 days after XMas - I hit our Target Sunday afternoon and it was VERY picked over already, and quite messy. The toy dept was practically empty - they were putting storage containers on those shelves to fill them up. Just comes with Christmas. Give it a few weeks for shipments to get in and stocked, then return.

I will say that I don't quite understand the Target versus WalMart debate - to me, they are NOT equal, nor try to be. I enjoy Target more than WalMart, but, there are some things that I just have to get at WalMart. Target does not carry paint supplies, tools, fabric, sewing materials, loads of craft materials, paint, automotive things, lawn and garden items, camping gear, fishing poles, bait and tackle, yarn, etc. They carry ALOT more items than Target.

When I buy for Vacation Bible School supplies, I hit WalMart first - they carry just about everything I need in one place. From golf balls, to fishing line, to paint stirrers, to felt - finding those items at Target would be difficult to begin with, and even if they did carry any of those things, the selection would be small and prices higher.

Also, Target's return policy now just STINKS. Without a receipt, you are up a creek. WalMart stands behind their stuff 100%, and will take back items bought elsewhere if they carry it in their store. I've NEVER had a problem returning anything there, and appreciate that in a company. Bothers me to
no end that Target will not stand behind their items anymore than they do.

So, not even speaking to WalMart's employee practices, I have to offer that in defense of the whole Target/WalMart debate.

JMHO.

I too hate WalMart.

The first one I shopped in regularly was the one on 192 in Kissimmee. I was on the WDW College Program and it was THE place to shop. And it was pretty nice. Long lines, but otherwise pleasant enough.

Then when I got home, I started shopping the WalMart in North Brunswick, NJ! YUCK!!! I thought the Princeton one would be better... NO WAY! It was worse! Flithy, rude help, and the clientele are all pushy, obnoxious, and do not watch their kids. They opened one in my home town of Old Bridge, and it was nice, exactly three months. After the first Christmas they were open (and had succeeded in putting the KMart across the street out of business...) the store immediately went down the tubes.

I go to Target for my general needs, Shoprite for my food, Best Buy for my electronics, and Sams Club for my bulk needs.

I do not like the stories i've heard about how WalMart treats their employees, and I do not like their predatory business practices, nor how they go about building their new stores (at least in Jersey).

They are building a new WalMart on the border of one town, but its positioned in such a way that all the roads to get to the store run throuh the three neighboring towns. So the one town gets all the property tax money from the store and the other three towns put up with all the congestion. Nice huh. I even feel bad supporting the WalMart corporation by shopping Sam's club. but they're the only warehouse in the area.

Our Walmart is great. I mostly shop at Target because it is closer, but if I can't find what I want there I end up finding it at Walmart - and usually at a better price. The Walmart in my parents town is so gross I won't go in it anymore.

It was two days after Christmas, giving two overnight crews shifts to work. .

Actually it was one night if you went shopping on Monday. That night would have been Sunday night(sat night was Xmas and they were closed). There wouldn't have been any deliveries made on Sunday. Therefore there wouldn't have been anything to stock.

Target does not carry paint supplies, tools, fabric, sewing materials, loads of craft materials, paint, automotive things, lawn and garden items, camping gear, fishing poles, bait and tackle, yarn, etc. They carry ALOT more items than Target.

All the Targets around here carry great camping gear. I actually prefer their brand of tents, backpacks etc. However if it is something more available like a coleman product, it is a lot cheaper at Walmart.

As others have said, the place needs time to replenish its inventory. And do try on-line.
It's been a decade or so since I've worked retail but unless you've experienced it at Christmas, you can't imagine how insane it is. The workers get it from all sides - management & customers. I can't imagine you would have faired much better at Target right now - and I do perfer Target over Walmart. In may case in depends on which town I am in - on direction Target wins hands down, the other direction the Walmart is a better fit for us. Last year it took 6 weeks before my kids could get the Gamecube game they wanted with their ToysRUs gift cards. It took that long for them to restock & the website would not accept the gift cards. (I believe they do now.)
I stopped at the grocery store on 12/26 to pick up rolls. There were exactly 4 packages to choose from - 2 dinner roll packages & 2 mongo sized kiaser roll packages. I realized that the there probably hadn't been any deliveries since before Christmas. I didn't expect the employees to come in on Christmas & restock the shelves. I made do. We were making sandwiches from left over Christmas ham. The kiaser rolls were HUGE - but we ended up buying them and cutting them in half for our sandwiches. No one went away hungry.

Add me to the " I don't like Walmart" list The ones around here are terrible. I have to drive 30 miles to the only Super Walmart in the area for anything decent at their stores. Yuck!

I am a Target gal forever! Great clearence sales and better clothing quality (IMHO)

heidi

I love Wal-Mart (or Wally-World - as my DD calls it). I think waiting at least a week to give them time to restock is the best. The stores get alot of their things from up North and with the storm and all I would think they might have had problems getting things in.
