I HATE trampolienes!!!

The size, weight, and construction of a trampoline makes it a lot different than a piece of lawn furniture. To compare them is silly. What a weird thing to say.

Agreed.
I think Im being over sensitive I feel really bad for the bird and kinda teared up before you said it was bird I got all dramatic and thought it had been a person or a dog. But I still feel bad for the bird.

OP trampolines are dangerous and the simpsons did a whole episode about the dangerousness of trampolines if the simpsons say its dangerous it must be yikes! But thanks for the tip about the dangerous potential of tramolines

Our insurance person was at our house for over an hour last night. Lucky for us, our insurance company is the same as our neighbors who owned the trampoline. NOT lucky for them, though. The insurance company is DROPPING THE NEIGHBORS!!! They were not 'informed that a trampoline was on the property' and therefore, the damage that was caused could have been 'preventable' in the insurance companies eyes. That's what our insurance guy told us and them.

We will be getting a check to replace the entire fence and to fix our underground sprinkler system. The tramp. landed on the exact spot where a sprinkler head is located and busted it, as well as severed the sprinkler lines in two different spots, where poles went through the ground. Also, part of the check will cover the cost of fixing landscaping- my garden was ruined because of this trampoline and because of the sprinklers leaking all over. It's a big muddy mess.

The reason why I hate trampolines (more than say a play set, a wooden swing, trees...all that other stuff that flies through the air) is this: (As our insurance person told us)...When the wind catches a trampoline at the right angle, the safety nets and the tramp. tarps act as a big wind sail. They are carried a lot further, and have caused more damage in large wind storms in the US than any metal swing set, any wooden swing sets or outdoor play equiptment. A metal or wooden swing set/play structure takes a lot higher of winds than a tramp. does to cause damage, because of them not having material on them that turn them into 'sails'. And, the metal pipes, poles and the large number of springs that they have make them extremely dangerous because it all falls apart as it flies through the air.

Our insurance person said that he had to go to 10 of the places yesterday that had damage from trampolienes. He said in 90% of the high-wind storms that he's done, most of the damage is cause to neighbors homes and properties, NOT the people who OWN the tramps...the NEIGHBORS. When it comes to a metal play set, the majority of those cannot be carried as far unless the winds are higher, so THOSE sets cause more damage on the property that OWNS the play set.

So, for us, it will all get fixed. It'll take time. and I'm quite upset, because our fence was custom built by my uncle 4 years ago and he's now in a wheel chair. He won't be re-building our fence with us, we'll have to go else where. Maybe we'll just get something from Lowes, or another local place...but it won't be as 'meaningful' as our current fence.

The lesson A LOT of people in our area will learn is...insurance rates will be HIGHER for people with trampolienes, but if you don't state that you own one, you may be DROPPED and it'll be very difficult to get a new insurance company once you're dropped from an old one!

This storm came up quickly and the winds weren't expected to get this bad. Trees were uprooted, swing sets were blown over and Stop lights and electric lines were damaged...BUT, out of EVERYTHING that was blown around, it was the trampolines that caused the most damage in our area.

:thumbsup2

Since a bird was killed by the metal, please be careful cleaning up. Birds can carry diseases and mites.

Ditto on this. My patio furniture flew into my pool when we had a bad thunderstorm about a week or two ago. Chairs, tables, and umbrella... easily could have flown into my neighbors yard or property. Stuff happens... :confused3

You are missing the point, the design of a trampoline is different, when the wind picks one up it is like a sail on a sailboat and they FLY through the air. Yes, a chair can do that as well but not to the same extent as a trampoline. Your patio furniture moved from your patio to your pool, not to your neighbors yard. It just doesn't have the same flight capabilities as a trampoline.

I think the reason people are bringing up lawn furniture is because it seems that the OP has such a hatred of trampoline (and that is fine) that she believes that tramps are the only thing that does damage, did she say that no,but that is the way it comes across.

All we hear in Florida is to secure your lawn furniture as it can become a weapon, so I think that is where I am coming from.

I do understand how they could be thrown much further because of their design, it is just that I have never heard of such damage by a tramp and living where I do, you hear a lot about things flying through the air.

I think the scariest part of the story is flying killer steaks.

Yeah, ok...I get it. I didn't spell the word right. I was frustrated, ticked off, and very much not myself that night or the next morning. The least of my worries was how to spell a word. I've never been a good speller...especially when I'm angry and upset about something.

I for one am EXTREMELY grateful that the experience was shared here...I'm the one with the horse that had an eye opener about what could happen. FWIW I spoke to my neighbor and she was like :scared1: hearing about it and realizing not only that her insurance company would not cover anything because it never occurred to her to tell them but more importantly she couldn't live with herself if something happened to Maxine. YES we can't prevent everything but you can be cautious. She told me she always hated it herself and after telling her DD (age 10) down it came.so from the bottom of our hearts thanks..

Ruthie

Maxine thanks you too !

Hey, it sucks and I hope your neighbors insurance covers all your damage. I'd be pissed too. Your post just made me chuckle is all. I once considered a tramp but all the warnings on the DIS made me decide against one. I don't need the grief.

:goodvibes I am jumping in on this thread, I think you guys are talking about homeowners insurance, hurricanes and pets.. please forgive me if I am wrong, I didn't read all of it.. I never thought of the fact you would have to have some sort of coverage for your horse.. I know insurance doesn't cover dogs, heck, if you have a certain breed, they will not even give you homeowners insurance.. some make you sign a waver.. so I know they aren't covering my 6 babies...

Since you were talking about posts making you chuckle...I read yours as "I WAS once considered a tramp..."

Ok, so now I read the thread.. ;)
My sister had a trampoline in her yard, me I don't like them at all. My DD fractured her ankle on her friends one year the day before we were leaving for Universal, having to go to Universal on crutches & using a wheel chair.. My sister was up for homeowners insurance renewal (and here in Fl that can be a touchy situation, they drop you like flies here), and when they came out to inspect the outside of the house & yard. They told her to get rid of the trampoline or she would not be renewed. She complied.

With that being said, they are not the only things that can fly in a storm. A friend of mine had a port-a-potty smash thru her bathroom window (ironic it went thru that window). She had to fight the company that provided the port-a-potty to have the window repaired. The company that was bldg the home next to her said they were not responsible since they rented out the item and those who rented it to them were for not anchoring it down properly.. she had a big mess to deal with but did get it settled.

I know when Charley hit me, I had debris from the homes around me in my yard, on my roof, my roof was damaged, but since all of it occured during the hurricane, they could not prove who's soffit went where.. so thank God I was covered for everything by my homeowners.. after that, they dropped me

My horses are insured (major medical/surgical), and I carry insurance to protect me against any damage they might cause. It costs a bundle. Care/Custody/Control and Liability insurance.

I'm not surprised that the neighbor was dropped. I am surprised with the previous injuries that it was not dropped sooner.

OP I hope you get everything back in order soon.

Oh don't worry about it, I didn't catch it, I don't worry so much about it here when people are venting, I just try to get the story of what happened.
