The size, weight, and construction of a trampoline makes it a lot different than a piece of lawn furniture. To compare them is silly. What a weird thing to say.

Our insurance person was at our house for over an hour last night. Lucky for us, our insurance company is the same as our neighbors who owned the trampoline. NOT lucky for them, though. The insurance company is DROPPING THE NEIGHBORS!!! They were not 'informed that a trampoline was on the property' and therefore, the damage that was caused could have been 'preventable' in the insurance companies eyes. That's what our insurance guy told us and them.
We will be getting a check to replace the entire fence and to fix our underground sprinkler system. The tramp. landed on the exact spot where a sprinkler head is located and busted it, as well as severed the sprinkler lines in two different spots, where poles went through the ground. Also, part of the check will cover the cost of fixing landscaping- my garden was ruined because of this trampoline and because of the sprinklers leaking all over. It's a big muddy mess.
The reason why I hate trampolines (more than say a play set, a wooden swing, trees...all that other stuff that flies through the air) is this: (As our insurance person told us)...When the wind catches a trampoline at the right angle, the safety nets and the tramp. tarps act as a big wind sail. They are carried a lot further, and have caused more damage in large wind storms in the US than any metal swing set, any wooden swing sets or outdoor play equiptment. A metal or wooden swing set/play structure takes a lot higher of winds than a tramp. does to cause damage, because of them not having material on them that turn them into 'sails'. And, the metal pipes, poles and the large number of springs that they have make them extremely dangerous because it all falls apart as it flies through the air.
Our insurance person said that he had to go to 10 of the places yesterday that had damage from trampolienes. He said in 90% of the high-wind storms that he's done, most of the damage is cause to neighbors homes and properties, NOT the people who OWN the tramps...the NEIGHBORS. When it comes to a metal play set, the majority of those cannot be carried as far unless the winds are higher, so THOSE sets cause more damage on the property that OWNS the play set.
So, for us, it will all get fixed. It'll take time. and I'm quite upset, because our fence was custom built by my uncle 4 years ago and he's now in a wheel chair. He won't be re-building our fence with us, we'll have to go else where. Maybe we'll just get something from Lowes, or another local place...but it won't be as 'meaningful' as our current fence.
The lesson A LOT of people in our area will learn is...insurance rates will be HIGHER for people with trampolienes, but if you don't state that you own one, you may be DROPPED and it'll be very difficult to get a new insurance company once you're dropped from an old one!
This storm came up quickly and the winds weren't expected to get this bad. Trees were uprooted, swing sets were blown over and Stop lights and electric lines were damaged...BUT, out of EVERYTHING that was blown around, it was the trampolines that caused the most damage in our area.
Ditto on this. My patio furniture flew into my pool when we had a bad thunderstorm about a week or two ago. Chairs, tables, and umbrella... easily could have flown into my neighbors yard or property. Stuff happens...![]()
Yeah, ok...I get it. I didn't spell the word right. I was frustrated, ticked off, and very much not myself that night or the next morning. The least of my worries was how to spell a word. I've never been a good speller...especially when I'm angry and upset about something.
hearing about it and realizing not only that her insurance company would not cover anything because it never occurred to her to tell them but more importantly she couldn't live with herself if something happened to Maxine. YES we can't prevent everything but you can be cautious. She told me she always hated it herself and after telling her DD (age 10) down it came.so from the bottom of our hearts thanks..
I am jumping in on this thread, I think you guys are talking about homeowners insurance, hurricanes and pets.. please forgive me if I am wrong, I didn't read all of it.. I never thought of the fact you would have to have some sort of coverage for your horse.. I know insurance doesn't cover dogs, heck, if you have a certain breed, they will not even give you homeowners insurance.. some make you sign a waver.. so I know they aren't covering my 6 babies...I am jumping in on this thread, I think you guys are talking about homeowners insurance, hurricanes and pets.. please forgive me if I am wrong, I didn't read all of it.. actually it all started with a flying tramp....and that's all I'm going to say......but I'll add that the neighbor HAD a tramp in her yard, we discussed it and there you go..go back & catch up
Hey, it sucks and I hope your neighbors insurance covers all your damage. I'd be pissed too. Your post just made me chuckle is all. I once considered a tramp but all the warnings on the DIS made me decide against one. I don't need the grief.
Oh is there anything worst (sp?) than someone who comes on a thread and dosen't READ the thread![]()
