Saratoga Springs' relative lack of appeal has never been more apparent to me than right now.

I just found out I'm attending a trade show in Orlando from April 4-7.
Out of all the hotels on Disney property – the values, moderates, luxury –there is only one that has any rooms available right now. Wanna guess which one?

You simply cannot get on property during those days in any hotel other than Saratoga Springs. Don't believe me?

Try yourself: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/index

If you ask me, all the talk about this mamouth, yet ultimately unappealing resort, upsetting the supply and demand of the DVC system is not
merely exaggeration nor is it an issue of subjectivity.

It's a fact.

And the death of the 7-month reservation option is inevitable.

Buy only where you want to stay, kids.

And from the looks of it that means buy a resale at anywhere but SSR.

You sir - are a brave man! I will make way for the abuse that will result!

So, you want to go in less than two weeks, and you're surprised there's only availability at one of the largest resorts? And one that's not sold out, which leaves more vacant units???

I'm not understanding your logic at all.

gee, you mean I can't just hope over to disney for a major conference and get ANY hotel I want?

hate to tell you, my SIL and BIL came to our town, Chicago, for a conference. We were going to get a room downtown and hang with them. MONTHS in advance mind you, and ALL the hotels in the entire downtown area were booked up. :confused3

sorry, bruce almighty, but you can't wave your hand and make vacant hotel rooms appear. :wizard:

not trying to start anything here , but are you trying to rent a room with points or cash ? I clicked on the link you provided and could find a couple of hotels with rooms . Granted they might not be what someone would want to spend . SSR and BWV both had 1 bedroom's avail AKL had a couple of different cat rooms . anyways hope you get something you want and good luck.

:sunny:

I think it might be the time of year also. I believe that April 4-7 is during spring break time for some regions of the country.

I called Jan 6 and reservered a BWV studio BOARDWALK VIEW for Feb 4-7, so you can sometimes luck out and get the "other" resorts on short notice. I just depends on the time of year.

Hopefully something else will open up for you though. If you're a DVC member, you could always book SSR and waitlist for something else. Good luck!

Actually, I think this is wonderful and might not last. We decided to put together a trip in less than a month in January, and they only had availability at SSR. Since I had never been there, I was happy to try it and I wasn't disappointed. I thought to myself how nice it is not to worry about availability at the last minute, and that now we might be able to be more spontaneous. We had a delightful time at SSR. The view was good. The pool was nice. The bus service was good. We loved the turf club and Artists Palette. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. You didn't have to walk up the stairs after a long day. It was just great. I'm just happy with SSR being there and if its available at the last minute, thats gravy.

I just read this and it inspired me to search also. WDW's site often brings SSR up as the first and sometimes ONLY option (marketing ploy, I'm sure), but if you click on specific hotels, then you can find availability. For example, checking Apr 4-7, they had rooms at CR and ASM and BWI, just to name a few.

To the OP, it might be easier to just call CRO (central reservations) and ask what is available at that time. Probably more than they are showing on-line.

Good luck!

Ditto for me.

We hope you will have an enjoyable conferrence in April. SSR is a delightful gentle breeze blowing and a laid back atmosphere. Just a short walk to DTD. If you happen to stay there I'm certain you will rest well and enjoy your stay. Safe Journey~

I realize you're probably feeling very frustrated right now, so anything you write should be taken with a grain of salt (we call it "mud-mind" in our house). But I hope you don't honestly think that SSR is less "appealing" than a value resort.

I hope you're able to find a room once you dig a little. Lucky you to get to go to a conference in Orlando! I've been asking DH to try to find one to attend down there so we can tag along.

Not sure when you checked or what you checked but I checked your dates and got availibility at all the resorts. :confused3

I pretty much had pick and choice of anything I wanted. From the deluxe all the way to values and Home Away from Homes too.

This is starting to get old.

That during one of the most busy times of the year, with just one week notice, that you can still get into SSR.

My point is not that I feel robbed I can't get into the Disney resorts; I expected them to be booked during spring break season. My point is how sad it is that you can still get into SSR –*a brand new Disney resort.

Every hotel, including BWV which is bigger right now than SSR, and every Downtown Disney hotel, and alll the value hotels, which are bigger the SSR are booked.

At SSR, however, you can waltz right in.

That is my logic: SSR has less appeal than every single hotel on Disney property including the non-Disney hotels.

And as Disney continues to sell people on SSR based on the strength of the being able to stay at the other DVC resorts – it will create a lopsided demand curve for the other resorts.

Buy where you want to stay....

I am getting a serious Daitcher flashback....... :sad2:
Say it aint so..........

The Disney web site does call up all the hotels as options, but when you drill down and select dates they bring you back to SSR your only option.

Of course, I tried to central reservations (I've been to DW about 20 times in the last 10 years) I understand how the system works. Other than "presidential suites" for $1,000 a night, the only resort they could offer was SSR.

Again, I'm not frustrated at all - I expected that there would be no rooms and only called to see if I would get lucky. SSR was the only choice.

By the way, I ultimately choose the Celebration Hotel instead. SSR simply has no appeal to me. Condo complexes depress me.

What categories are you checking, because they do have value available too.
