I hate that Google uses 'smart ads'.

There's plenty - PLENTY of agressive dogs. Its pictures like this (that pop up in the DIS ad's) that make people so afraid of dog's like mine.

And be assured, I have NEVER seen him EVER look like this EVER!!!!!!

Just peeved.... carry on. ;)

I had not noticed that, but I agree 110% with you!!!

I know what you mean. We used to have a Doberman and people were terrified of him, but he was the sweetest dog and the biggest baby you've ever seen. I don't know much about pit bulls but when you had your dog in your signature I could tell by looking at his face that he was a sweetie! Now that dog in the ad - :scared1:

I haven't seen that one but there is an ad that drives me nuts. It's the one for a generator that has a count down to the hurricane season. We know it's coming but I hate being reminded of it every time I sign on to the DIS.

Not seen the ad before but I agree. It makes me sad to see certain breeds stereotyped like this when as a whole they are mostly gentle dogs, and often have a better temperant than smaller dogs.

Yeah I have seen that one- usually on the dog threads! lol And it is sad.
About a month ago there was an attack by a pit bull- a teen stepped in and pulled the boy to safety- but what they didn't say in the headline was that it was not JUST a pit bull there was also a sharpei!!!! But the headline was "Pit bull attack" Not "Sharpei attack" that wouldn't have been as attention grabbing I guess.

Any dog can be vicious. It depends on how they are treated. It doesn't matter what KIND of dog they are. imho.

Media Bias: The Pit Bull Paparazzi
Consider how the media reported four incidents that happened between August 18th and August 21st, 2007.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A study by the National Canine Research Council reveals biased reporting by the media, its devastating consequences for dogs and the toll it takes on public safety.

Consider how the media reported four incidents that happened between August 18th and August 21st:

August 18, 2007 - A Labrador mix attacked a 70-year-old man sending him to the hospital in critical condition. Police officers arrived at the scene and the dog was shot after charging the officers. This incident was reported in one article and only in the local paper.

August 19, 2007 - A 16-month old child received fatal head and neck injuries after being attacked by a mixed breed dog. This attack was reported two times by the local paper only.

August 20, 2007 - A 6-year-old boy was hospitalized after having his ear torn off and receiving severe bites to the head by a medium-sized mixed breed dog. This attack was reported in one article and only in the local paper.

August 21, 2007 - A 59-year-old woman was attacked in her home by two Pit bulls and was hospitalized with severe injuries.

This attack was reported in over two hundred and thirty articles in national and international newspapers, as well as major television news networks, including CNN, MSNBC and FOX.

"Clearly a fatal dog attack by an unremarkable breed is not as newsworthy as a non-fatal attack by a pit bull" says Karen Delise, researcher for the National Canine Research Council.

People routinely cite media coverage as “proof” that pit bulls are more dangerous than other dogs. Costly and ineffective public policy decisions are being made on the basis of such "proof". While this biased reporting is not only lethal to an entire population of dogs; sensationalized media coverage endangers the public by misleading them about the real factors in canine aggression.

That is one ugly dog.

I guess the ad is more effective with a pit bull than a Chihuahua

By the way, it's great to live where I do

Winnipeg:

* Prior to ban, there were 30 pit bull attacks per year and 30 to 40 reported serious attacks of all dogs per year. In the past four years, there have been no pit bull attacks.

Kitchener-Waterloo:

* Prior to the ban, in 1995 and 1996, there were 17 and 18 pit bull incidents, respectively. After the ban, there has been about one per year.

Sure - if you think 'breedism' is great, it is.

Nothing like hearing family pets are being taken from families, with no aggression issues at all, what so ever - and being euthanized simply for being a certain breed. That doesnt sound so great, to me. However, I live in a state that has outlawed this, so I dont have to worry. :goodvibes

I havent noticed that one. :scared:

We all probably notice the ones that pertain to us the most, y'know?

I don't understand why other people get these banners when all I ever see is one about Disney travel. I guess if those are the things you guys are seeing though, I shouldn't complain cause it sounds bad :sad2:

Yeah I think breedism is great... it protects the community from these monsters.

"He never bit anyone before" LOL the words out of yet another owner who's animal has just ripped someone's throat out.

IMHO the world should follow Ontario's example and get rid of this breed altogether. Permanently

I have mozilla as a browser and I can adblock any photo that I don't want to see... guess what?, I kept the ad and got rid of your siggie :rotfl:

Your dog may be fine now, CR but one of these day he/she may snap and kill a child or another animal. Watch yourself.

Yay to the DIS for having such a great SPONSER!! :cheer2:

Thanks for the heads up!

Cat - I think you are doing great spreading awareness about the bread and educating people.

Those are Google ads, not site sponsors. They show up based on subject content within the thread. I suspect that your signature graphic with the mention of pit bulls is what is causing that thread to be showing for you where other people are getting travel related ads, etc.
