Ok, so I am just doing my packing list for our holiday that is now 33days away and DH is making fun of me!
"Why don't ya just pack a load of shorts and t-shirts like the rest of us?"
"for god's sake pack some trainers so you can walk faster then a tortoise."

Am I seriously the only lady out there who just can't feel confortable walking around looking like, well not like me thats for sure! There will be pictures taken of me in virtually every outfit I wear on my holiday,so why would I suddenly not care what I look like?:confused3

I have invested in a couple of pairs of nice coloured denim shorts and I have a few nice t-shirts that I will wear with these. I have also made us family t's and will be wearing these one of the days.
I will be packing my trainers but these are to wear to the gym, NOT to be worn with shorts or anything else because noones legs look good in trainers!:sad2:
What I have packed is a couple of jersey pencil skirts with 4 matching strapless tops,
A shorts playsuit
1 Amazingly cute maxi dress
1 jersey vest type dress
1 white tea dress
2 shift dresses forevening
1 pair coloured jeans
1 sundress
A few vest tops
3 pairs of flip flops
Toms
2 bikinis
Cardi for aircon places

prob a few things I've forgotten about but its hardly a huge list. We will be in florida for 21 nights so its a long time. Plus I'm from ENGLAND so I don't ever wear shorts because its too flippin' cold!!!!:sad2: I am just so used to being covered up that "letting it all hangout" is just a very strange concept for me to handle! I can manage at the pools because its a pool, but walking around in the day, I like to look nice. I don't do heels (I'm 5'8 so never do) and I wear a bit oftinted moisturiser and mascara so I'm not exactly dressed inapropriately. I guess its just my style, I like skirts and dresses, I like to be girly and shorts and a t-shirts just make me feel blah!:rolleyes2
so am i insane? Am i totally on my own for not being willing forgo for the shorts t and trainers look?

I say wear what's most comfortable to you. If that means skirts and dresses, then go for it! You've been to the parks before, so you know about getting in and out of rides, and I assume you've taken that into consideration. As for the shoes, again, you've been there before, so you know how much walking it is and can pack accordingly. Personally, my feet are much happier after a long day in the parks in a cute pair of tennis shoes than in sandals or flats, but everyone is different. Have a wonderful trip!!

Well, I'm from the US and I tend to think that tennis shoes (I'm guessing that's trainers) look more dressy than flip flops. I guess there's some exceptions, but I tend to think of flip flops as the least dressy shoe option. And I don't see how legs look any better in flip flops than in tennis shoes.

There are other options besides just the 2. I do wear tennis shoes, but I mostly wear Keens, and they're a bit nicer than tennis shoes. A lot of women wear Danskos, also.

If you are choosing outfits and footwear that are going to keep you from being able to tour the parks fully, then rethink what you are bringing. Otherwise, it doesn't matter.

You are not insane!!:rotfl: There's nothing wrong with wanting to feel and look girly! If that's what makes you happy and comfortable, absolutely do it.:thumbsup2 You see more and more sundresses and those cute maxi dresses everywhere these days, so you'll fit right in.

I myself love to wear nice looking shorts b/c I feel huge in dresses for some reason. I also have to wear "trainers" as you call them because I have issues with my feet and need the support at all times. I would rather get a nice pedi and wear cute sandals or flip flops, but I just can't.:sad2:

You will see all sorts of styles of dress at Disney, so whatever you feel like doing, go for it. (And hubbies never understand these things, right?) Have a wonderful trip!:dance3:

Personally, I'm very low maintenance. I don't love shorts, but t-shirts and comfortable footwear are fine with me.

Wear whatever you want. Unless they are hauling your luggage around, I don't see why anybody would care what you wear.

I hate hate hate denim shorts...on women. I am all about capri's...shorts on women over a certain age just look wrong, IMO.

However, that being said, since we are going in August, and we are from MN where we prefer to freeze, my wardrobe next month for the parks will consist of t-shirts and running shorts. And sandals.

Tennis shoes, I think, look dorky on pretty much everyone....and way too hot!

What, no pleated front 12" inseam khaki shorts? :rotfl2:

I pack like you do - mostly dresses and skirts. It's how I live day to day. I feel like I am treated better (restaurants, flight attendants, etc.) and I look better in photos. Can't abide sneakers outside the gym.

But I do tons of heels (and I'm 5'9".)

Enjoy your vacation. I'm sure you will look and feel great!

I'm the opposite. I hate denim shorts on guys! I love a cute pair of denim shorts for women- I have several pair. All are dark in color.

My boys wouldn't wear "jean shorts" if their lives depended on it. They only wear plaid shorts, khaki shorts, and the occasional gym shorts.

As for shorts in general- I prefer capris, but when it is 100 degrees out- I wear my shorts and t-shirts and tank tops and don't bat an eyelash. I couldn't imagine wearing a maxi dress (those are long, to the floor, right?) when it is stinking hot and humid.

I only wear sneakers when I'm working out. I live the entire summer in flip flops and sandals. By flip flops, I mean any kind of open toed shoe that is "thong" style. I have several pair of them that are WAY dressier than a sneaker!

I am totally with you. I rarely wear shorts and certainly never, ever with trainers/sneakers. I own them but they are exclusively for the gym. I would never wear them walking around.

I always pack lots of skirts and skorts (from Athleta, Title Nine, etc.) and sundresses. They look nicer and are very comfortable.

I think some people confuse comfort with being sloppy.

I like your packing list. I like to wear more feminine clothes too, short dresses will always win out over shorts for me. As for sneakers/tennis shoes - I agree 100%. You will never see them on my feet unless I'm exercising. I love wedge sandals or wedge flip flops - there are some really cute ones out there and they look sooo much nicer (esp with a nice pedicure)!

What kinds of shoes are you packing to wear in the parks? Obviously you've been before so you're used to the walking. I'm taking my tennis shoes/running shoes, but plan to wear my Keen type sandals pretty much every day. I want to have different shoes to trade out if we go back to the resort midday, just to give my feet a break from wearing the same shoe 12+ hours a day.

90% of the time I wear knee length/bermuda length shorts, khaki or lightweight denim, but I do have some very casual but nice looking sundresses that pack well, and I'm taking a selection of those with me as well. My main goal is to be cool & comfortable, not look like I'm trying out for Project Runway!

Eh, whatever floats your boat.

Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead in a matching family tshirt.

I am from the US also, and I am the exact opposite. I hate tennis shoes and think they totally destroy an outfit. I realize others have to wear tennis shoes for various reasons, but I wear flip flops every time we go to WDW, and we go all day. In fact the only time I don't wear them is if it is in the 40's or below outside.

OP. I understand where you are coming from, I am very picky about what I wear on vacation. Just remember it is hot as all get out down here, so if you want to look cute in your pictures, take them as soon as you get out and about, it is insanely hot down here right now.

I am not a shorts, t-shirt, sneaker girl either.

I never wear shorts. I have maybe 2 actual t-shirts that I might wear just to remind myself that I don't like them. And I only wear sneakers to exercise since they I think they look awful on me in regular street clothes.

See, and people just have different tastes, and that's fine. I really don't care what other people wear, but I personally think flip flops are fugly. I've never seen a pair that I think are attractive, but they are popular, so clearly I have different tastes. I don't wear tennis shoes every day, like I said, my everyday shoes are Keens. But I do like to wear them on occasion.

As far as the OP goes, as long as nothing she wears will slow her down, who cares? I've seen women in the parks wearing "cute" shoes that aren't practical limping around or sitting and rubbing their feet. You can't enjoy the parks if you are not in practical clothes. As long as it is practical, and falls within common decency, then who cares?

Yesterday it was 107. So yea, shorts and t-shirts are necessary. Plus my life must not be as glam as yours is at the moment. I would love to dress like that however life does not permit me to.

Now I am off to clean up dog poop and move my sprinklers in my yard and then I am cleaning bathrooms and mopping.:wave2:

I wear skirts and dresses much more often than shorts, mostly light cotton or silk and just above the knee. Longer shorts make me feel sloppy and uncomfortable when its really hot.

For the parks I like Crocs. They have a bunch of different styles. Sneakers and socks just seem so hot and sweaty. Most of the time it seems the people in my group who wear sneakers are the ones who end up with blisters.

Exactly, they do have different tastes and like you I don't care what people wear. Although I must admit I did have a good laugh at the woman who was wearing the mini dress with 4 inch heals, and makeup that was meant for a night club. sorry, but as she sat there powdering her nose I just couldn't resist.

Strictly shorts and T-shirts or other short-sleeve tops for me in Orlando in August. If your list is what you want to wear, then go for it.

*:I* would not take jeans or denim shorts to WDW in August. Have you been at that time in the year? I live in the South -- our highs have been over 100 degrees with heavy humidity for most of the past week and we have three days of it coming up this weekend, very much like Orlando in August. I can't think of any situation that I would be willing to wear jeans, denim shorts or a maxi dress this weekend.
