I hate my house alarm

Don't you hate it when you are having a really nice nap while the electricity is out but you are awakened when it comes back on because the house alarm goes off?

It happens every time we lose electricity and it's really annoying.

The poor cat in my lap jumped straight in the air and took off running. I think he is in hiding right now.

There may be a battery in the alarm that needs replacing.

My Carbon Monoxide alarm does that, too. Really, REALLY loud squeal!

Sayhello

Living in an area where alarms are a necessary evil....I would agree with OKW. You most likely need to replace the batter.

The house alarm is wired directly into the electricity of the house. There isn't a battery involved in that part.

Now there are some batteries in the stupid motion detectors around the doors and windows but those were just replaced 2 weeks ago.

It happened again today except I wasn't napping. Electricity went out for 15 minutes and when it came back on, the main alarm went off.
I called the alarm company who said because it's attached to the main electric of the house, that this will happen. Luckily, I've been home when it's going off so the police aren't called and we won't get fined for false alarms.

I am seriously considering having it disconnected from the main electric in the house and just go with simple battery operated ones except I don't know that those have monitoring.
It's really starting to bug me enough that I think I'll do the research to figure it out.

What else stinks about that is working at police dispatch and getting TONS of alarm calls from alarm companies that are all false due to the electricity being out. Most of them are cancelled before the officers get there, but they still keep us busy!

Interesting. We never had a problem with our alarm going off after a power outage at our old house. The system was tied into the main electrical system and had a battery back up. Periodically, about every 2 to 3 years, we'd have to replace the back up battery.

I am a manager of an alarm company. All professional alarm systems are hooked up to the 'main electric' but all of them also have a battery backup (its required). Your system is setting off the alarm when it powers up because the backup battery Is dead. it SOUNDS LIKE your company is being lazy and doesn't want to fix it.

With 4 people saying it's most likely the backup battery, I'll call them again and insist they come out and take a look.

I'll speak with a supervisor too if it turns out to be a backup battery because the person who told me the main system didn't have one needs additional training.

Thanks!

Battery! Normally a 12 volt battery or dual 6 volt batteries run in series. Those can be replaced easily and you can find replacements at some hardware stores or electronics stores.
