multiple long outages where they accidentally shut my service off, hours on the phone on my cell to them, because my house phone is run thru cable, an hour in the office yesterday when I finally returned all of my equipment, keeping only basic cable and internet, because I got a dish in frustration, non-returned phone calls from supervisers...
I ask for a credit for the trouble or I will switch to satellite for my internet too and they look at my records and claim there are no notes on the countless phone calls and no proof of my outages. Aargh. They want to give me a $25. credit. I used up all of my cell phone minutes and roll over minutes for this. I wish I had a viable alternative for internet.
Oh by the way I'm on hold with them now and the call is over an hour long already.

If you made those calls from your cell phone, I would get the records from the cell phone company, figure out how much each and every call cost you and take it back down to them. And I don't play games with Comcast, had them years ago and didn't play their games back then, I would tell them that the credit had better be compensating me for my time wasted on hold "unnoted calls".

They told me they owe me nothing for my time or my cell phone bill. I am filing a complaint with the public utilities board.

I Hate Comcast. When we first moved, we had to wait 2 weeks for them to come out and hook everything out (I called a month in advance, but they wouldn't start the change until we moved in, so then had to wait 2 weeks from our move in date.)

Then, no one showed up for that appt. I kept calling, and was tols that they are on their way, and was assured that they WOULD be there, that day. 9Pm, still no one there (appt was in an 8-12 anm window, or similar) I call, and they apologize, and say t hey will give me another appt....but again, no one is avail for 2 weeks. We were LIVID. Eventually, they did get someone there in 1 week, but then when we got our fist bill there was a charge for the 1st appt that no one showed up for.

I have Comcast and I refuse to complain after dealing with Charter after my mom died. Out of ALL her utilities and several other things.. they are the only ones that made me send in a death certificate... a cable company.

you really need to switch to dish or direct. Cable in general sucks, comcrap is one of the worst.

I switched to DTV for my cable but there is no high speed internet alternative that I can find. On Monday I brought back all of their equipment, which they had a 500. equipment charge on my bill for because they couldn't understand that we had moved and brought the equipment with us and were still using it.

We have Comcast, only because they are the only company that is offering high speed internet at our house.....we can't even get DSL where we are now, ONLY Comcast....I don't like it but we deal. I do agree with a PP who said get your cell records to prove your calls, they definitely should be doing something for you!!

I love Comcast.

I've had Dish (NEVER AGAIN ****tiest service and equipment EVER), DirectTV (NEVER satelite again) and Fios (which was OK)... I will never not have Comcast again.

We really like Comcast too. Know why? Because, I found out a few months ago on the Dis, those of us in the pac NW actually have Comcast employees giving us our customer service.

Most other areas of the US have contract companies, not Comcast employees, taking their phone calls.

So Comcast is great up here (and since Lacrosse-Lady is just outside of Portland, that's why I quoted here), but bad elsewhere.

I have no actual experience with Comcast, but most people don't seem to love their cable companies. I've heard so many negatives about Comcast, but maybe that is because they are so much bigger and have more customers than the other companies. :confused3

Switch to a different provider. Or do without Comcast's advanced services: Nothing "punishes" a service provider more than dropping down to the limited basic service that they are required to provide by law at a low price, typically around $15 per month.

I've read a lot about cable television service in central New Jersey. The physical plant sucks. I don't know who built it (Adelphia?) but it was the crappiest build-out ever, from what I've read. Eventually, Comcast will have to replace every bit of it, but they're not going to do so overnight. And when they do it, you can be sure that they're going to make sure y'all pay for it... I know that the folks up here in Boston don't want to help pay for replacing an entire cable television system in New Jersey.

They told me they owe me nothing for my time or my cell phone bill.
They are correct about that. They only ever "owe" you for the time that your cable is actually down, and only a pro-rated portion of your subscription fee. I'm sorry you were misled to believe something different.

I am filing a complaint with the public utilities board.
You need to file the complaint with the local franchising board. It may be the public utilities board, but not always. Sometimes it is the town itself.

Cable in general sucks, comcrap is one of the worst.
As PP noted, Charter is one of the worse. And Cox. And Suddenlink. And a few others. Comcast is in the middle of the pack, in terms of objective measures of quality. People love to complain (i.e., a subjective measure) about Comcast because it is the biggest.

I switched to DTV for my cable but there is no high speed internet alternative that I can find.
That's one of the objective measures that distinguishes Comcast as one of the better suppliers: They provide service to practically everyone in their service area, while other companies either avoid entire states entirely (Verizon has sold their terrestrial assets in northern New England, because there just isn't enough money to be made), or cherry-pick who they will offer service to, essentially offering service to the most lucrative, profit-generating customers, and leaving the budget customers without choices (Verizon didn't offer us service here on the edge of town for 18 months after they started offering service to the central portion of town, where the richer people live).

I've had much better service with Comcast than I had with Brighthouse. :thumbsup2

::yes:: I've had much better service from Comcast than I ever did from Cablevision. Especially the last few years.

Have you looked into Verizon HighSpeed? Comes over the phone line. We love it. Customer service is great and we've never had an outage. :)

We had Comcast and I could not stand it...I actually fought with them for weeks on end...terrible service...I'm in the IT field and they were giving me the lamest excuses for outages and their poor service quality, (making up words they couldn't even understand) they're crooks in my book. We're in Jersey too, I switched to Dish Network and Verizon DSL...we like it a lot better. If you can handle not having high speeds for downloads, it's fine.

But that's DSL, not actual high-speed

DSL isn't what it used to be. You now have a dedicated amount of bandwidth (no sharing with neighbors). It's just as fast. No outages. No limits on data usage. Better customer service. I'll stick with Verizon. . .

I see they are buying or trying to buy NBC/ Universal

I had Comcast for a long while and now have Brighthouse--it seems they are all the same

Sorry, I don't think I understand the issue. I don't think it is unreasonable to request proof that the account holder is deceased. Otherwise, everyone will claim that the account holder is deceased just to get out of the cancellation fees.

Seems like good business to request a customer to provide proof. So many people are dishonest these days. You can't take anyone at their word.
