Single parents can't go on Disney Cruises? Just because she is not working doesn't mean she is broke. I have a friend who will NEVER have to work a day in her life because her family is wealthy and she has money to live on for life.

I don't know anything about the OP, but if her children have special needs, they would definitely need a parent at the bus stop.

Well, this poster usually posts on the Budget Board & she's also had other user names. She's mentioned being on public assistance. I don't know about you, but I kinda have a problem with someone who doesn't work & is on public assistance going to WDW so much. And before people say she deserves a vacation, I agree with that. But a vacation doesn't have to be WDW. If she lives in NY, there are tons of things you can do that don't cost a lot of money. I know because when I first starting working I couldn't afford a fancy vacation so I stayed home & did local stuff. (I did 'staycations' before they were cool, LOL!).

If it's the poster I'm thinking of, she receives a whole load of public assistance. So no, she shouldn't be planning a cruise.

How did you sleep thru the house phone ringing off the hook and 20 messages being left on your answering machine?

This. Also, how on earth did the bus wait for two hours with a bus load of kids waiting. Did it finish the route and then come back and wait...and THEN drive to the precinct closests to the end out the route? So much of this story doesn't make any sense at all.

This is generally what happens..the bus runs the regular route, if no adult is there the child remains on the bus and the driver runs the remainder of the route then returns to their stop and waits. Our drivers would never wait 2 hours...20 mins tops. They then take the child to the local police precint. There is no one at the school building for them to return them to so the police station is the safest and is the proper protocol. That is the only part of the story that DOES make sense :lmao:

But her drivers dropped her kids to the precinct at the end of the route. If they had driven all the way back from the end of the route to sit and wait, why would they be at the far precinct instead of the closest?

This is Brooklyn which has many police precincts. They may have to take them to the precint assigned to the school which may be in her opinion farther than a different one. They can't just randomly drop them off at any police station. I can tell you that there is a police station a few blocks from my home but it is not "my precint" mine is at the other end of my neighborhood at least 3 miles away, while the ohter is about a mile. It is simply where you live within the limits.

Very rarely in my expereiences as a teacher and working in schools does this EVER happen. I have never personally seen or heard of it happening. Her first child's drop was at 1:30 and the second at 4 pm that is a full 5 hours late for the first one and 3 hours late for the second child in picking up. I have NEVER ever had anyone be that late.

She also goes to Florida a LOT. She just got back from a trip to the Nick Hotel, she is planning a spring break trip to DW with her family, and now she is planning a cruise. And I remember a trip report she posted several months ago where she was upgraded to the AKL.

I'm thinking maybe she has pschological issues, or is just lonely and wants some attention!!! Did the AK TR have any photos?????

The police station is a LAST resort. As OP stated they called her over 20 times and tried to get contact. After 2 hours something needs to be done and the police station is the proper protocol. I was a teacher in NY for 8 years and only a handful of times was a student ever not picked up at a bus stop. This is not as frequent an incident as you are all making it out to be.And we also have the same rules that any studen from grade 4 and under must be met by and adult at the bus stop, they cannot get off the bus unless someone is there to meet them.

With minor adjustments, that's how it is at my children's school. We don't have a school bus but younger children must be met in the playground by a named adult (if someone other than the approved list you hand in at the start of the year is collecting them one day, you must send a note to school) or attend the after school club. If you are late and haven't contacted the school, the child will be taken to the school office and after 15-20 minutes or so, the school will start to phone all of the contact numbers (we need one main contact & two emergency ones). If no one can be reached, social services will be phoned.

It's the same procedure for the after school club if you are late to collect your child. I'm assuming it rarely gets to the "phone social services" stage!

I rarely nap, but during the Christmas break I've been known to sneak a little one in. I then find I want one the next day and the next... It's a bad habit to get into - the more I nap, the more I want one and then I just end up feeling groggy! I'd be too paranoid to nap on a school day unless I were ill and had my alarm set!!

The whole story seems crazy. Why would anyone list an emergency contact as someone whom they haven't had contact with in over a year. Makes no reasonable sense. Makes no sense that anyone can sleep - without the aid of medication/drugs - through "20" phone calls and associated messages. That's a lot of calls and it's hard to believe that that couldn't wake anyone. Was she even home napping? Perhaps she had gone out for the day and got home late and now is creating a story to cover her tracks with the school/police by saying she was napping.

Years ago, my husband worked for a mall - in their office. My DH could tell you the many, many times kids got lost and they had to page over and over for the parents. The parents would come retrieve the kids when the mall closed. Why? Because they knew they were safe and had a built-in babysitter - so they would finish their shopping and then head over to get the kids.

Well, I headed to the Community Board looking for a bit of entertainment. I found it! :thumbsup2

Whoa!! I haven't looked at this thread since I posted my last comment. WOW!! I see a whole lot of assumptions about me and my kids! I never once said I had special needs kids. I also never said I recieved public assistance. Please keep your noses outta my pocketbook! I obviously am not broke since I'm going on a Disney cruise in September ....seeya there nyers!! Please feel free to say hello disers if you see me im really friendly :)

I've gone to the doctor to pinpoint why I slept so long and medically they could find nothing wrong besides me obviously being overweight but they did tests and took blood and everything came back fine. However I went to see a psychologist and they said I was "extremly depressed" which may explain why I slept so long and fell asleep in the first place.I was prescribed lexapro and abilify. I have not taken the medication though because I dont want anything screwing up my mind making me feel loopy . I am sad 97% of the time but there is nothing that will ever make that feeling go away. The only time im happy is when im on vacation with the kids .

And the hits keep on coming.

THE MEDICINE WILL HELP MAKE THE SAD GO AWAY. Do yourself and your kids a favor and follow the doctor's advice. If oversleeping like you did (due to depression) was not a wake up call to you, then I don't know what would be and shudder to think of what lies ahead for your kids. Good luck.

You really need to follow your Dr's advice. They wouldn't give you meds you don't need

After seeing your update, I feel highly compelled to respond to you.

Depression is a medical issue. Feeling sad 97% of the time is a good indicator that your neuro chemicals are out of sync. Depression does not make you a bad or a weak person. It makes you a person who needs medication to help regulate chemicals that happen to belong in your noggin. Meds are there to help re-regulate what is lacking in the chemical balance in your brain. You did not do something wrong to make it happen, you are not a bad person. A chemial imbalance isn't a judgement on how you live your life or you as a person. If you were diabetic or had a seizure disorder would you put up so much fight to take something? Its all the same thing; you take meds to rereguale your body and its balance, be it brain function, mood regulation or to replace soemthing that your body doesn't make.

I am concerned about any person who thinks that being sad that often is normal and that it will never go away. That is not the talk of a healthy person who's life is in good balance. Meds shouldn't make you feel loopy, they should help you be able to balance your physical health with your mental health. Just like when you get off a spinning ride and need a minute to stop the spinning, your body needs time to adjust to it being put in working order for full life function.

Lexapro and Abilify are normally prescribed together when your normal antidepressent isn't giving your full theraputic effects and you still are having lingering sadness or its having a major effect on your life. If you have had this conditon for some time and aren't taking your medication........you need to rethink how you look at yourself and your meds.

I take vitamins because I am lacking them in my diet. I take ADHD meds so i can focus and block out noise. I take a meds to boost the effectiveness of my ADHD med (in the antidepressent family). It doesn't make me bad or weak or loopy. It sgives me the ability to take charge of my life and ENJOY what is around me. I refuse to fell bad about taking meds and I get grumpy when people think they are something less then perfect because they have to take a med or two. It doesn't screw up you rmind, it makes it so you can hear the whole Symphony of life rather then just the flute section.

You trusted your doctors opinion by going to him in the first place. Now trust his diagnosis and take your medication. Your kids are depending on it.
