This reminds me of some friends of ours. They went to WDW the year before we did. They complained about several things, didn't like the food, etc., etc.

My family went and had a blast. I guess it depends on two things. What types of things you enjoy, and your attitude going into it.

You're so right. A co-worker of mine went to WDW with her family and came back complaining, particularly about the cost of food. Now, setting aside the fact that there are ways to mitigate that, the question that came to my mind was: who in the world goes to any theme park, ball park, or other controlled area and expects to find inexpensive food?!?

We are already thinking about our next trip to WDW...can't wait!

I actually find WDW much more affordable than traveling overseas! I can go to WDW for less than $2500 (including my food and bringing my DBF along). The trip I'm trying to plan for Italy (for myself) will cost over $3000 and that doesn't include food!

I don't understand why someone would come to the Dis boards to talk about hating WDW. I don't mind legitimate complaints from people because they had a bad experience or something didn't measure up to their expectations. In this case, the OP went with the attitude that he wasn't going to have a good time. I think attitude is a huge factor in whether or not someone enjoys whatever it is they're doing.

I just hope for your family's sake you were not surly during your vacation. As a part of a family we all particapate in some activity or another that we don't like but we do it because we love each other. I would never complain or ruin an experience for my husband or children because I was unhappy. I think that would be selfish and immature. I know everyone doesn't like Disney but I would think for your family you could suck it up for a week.

You know, the sad thing is that with the smallest, tiny, itsy-bitsy little bit of research, you wouldn't have been there during one of the most expensive and crowded times of year, or you would have at least been educated about what to expect.

Maybe for your next trip, you can find the online information about the place beforehand, to avoid this sort of situation, instead of finding it afterwards to complain about the situation you got yourself into?

I don't mean to sound so harsh, but WHY do people do this? Do you go to a car dealership, walk in, and hand them money for a car, without even looking around or test driving? No, you check out what's available, find what suits your needs, try a few different ones out, do some research, and make an educated decision that you know you'll be happy with.

Oh I really like your analogy, (great travle guide too) I havent been to Disney in years but I learned a lot from this site on how to take a tot. Hope he (or others like him) reads up next time so his family can go and have fun!

first i want to say i love WDW but after the first day i was like omg i need to get out of here ( it was july 22nd and it was very very hot and i had drove all night to get there) but the kids didn't want to wait we were in MK all of 5 hrs and i had had enuff when to the hotel to swim and sleep got up the next morning when too AK and im sold i have 2 trips in the planning for next year i will never drive all night myself again and i know i will love it guess what im say is go with an open mind and sleep and u never know what u will find

If it weren't for the fact that I KNOW my exhusband wasn't there with us I'd SWEAR you were him OP! Boy, all I can say is I sure would HATE to be your wife or your kids because you admitted that they LOVED it. You know, just THINK of the things that they have HATED doing over the years but did because YOU loved or wanted to. Some people don't like disney. Although that had nothing to do with my divorce you better bet when my current boyfriend and I started getting serious I told him "Look, I don't drink, smoke, use illegal drugs, OR sleep around. I just spent around $4000 for our disney vacation for my daughter's high school graduation. We drove because I couldn't afford to drive. Could we have gone on a cruise? Yes, could we have gone overseas? Probably to Mexico. However she wanted to go to disney. Sometimes everything isn't always about you but other people in your family too. Did your wife enjoy it? You said yes. Did your kids enjoy it? You said yes. Did anyone get hurt? (We had 3 come down with the stomach flu missed ALL thanksgiving in the park AND our thanksgiving dinner then had the other 3 get sick with it when we got home and we STILL had a wonderful time!) Sounds like your family had a great vacation (that is if you didn't ruin it by complaining the whole time).


Sorry, didn't mean to blow up on you but I've had WAY too many disney vacations ruined by an ex husband that was only concerned about himself.

I have never once come home from a disney vacation thinking what a complete waste of my time and money. It is actually the opposite. I come home thinking that was worth every penny I spent. With good planning and reasonable expectations, anyone can have a wonderful holiday no matter where they go. I am sorry it was torture for you. Unfortunately it was torture because you allowed it to be that way. There are a lot of children and families who will never get this opportunity...count your blessings you were even able to go!

I've heard from a couple of men who have large families that they felt the same way. I think a lot of it is in your timing, DH and I both run our own company so we're fortunate to be able to go at odd times of the year during the week days so we manage to skip all the lines etc. We did find even on crowded days that going really early in the AM helped skip a lot of the lines etc, then we had time for a leisurely lunch somewhere nice or even a nap midday, then back to the parks at night

Back from Disney World, a few thoughts and comments...

This was a tough week for me. I am not a Theme Park guy, and really didn't want to go at all.

But, the wife and kids all were up for it, so I went along for the ride, all the time thinking that for the same money, we could be in Paris cruising the Seine.

So, Disney World is top shelf, anything they do, they do right. From getting you out of the parking lot to the smallest construction details, the physical plant is top shelf.

The crowds were outrageous, the lines were stupid, and the cost of everything from food to junk was ridiculous.

We are talking $42/day just to get into the park, six people six days, the admission tickets were $1500 for us. Add on airfare, hotel and food, and we easily could have gone someplace magnificent for the same money.

All in all, Grumpy hated it and everybody else loved it.

I sure don't expect anyone here to agree with me, but this was the most torturous seven days of my life.

Please please people, go somewhere else on your vacation.

This summer we spent a week in Paris- guess where we stayed......... DISNEYLAND PARIS!!! Next time why not do both? We were on the Eiffel tower and Splash Mountain all in one day!!

What's all the fuss about cruising the Seine? It really was not all that exciting.

I admitted that I am not a theme park guy, that I knew before I went that I was not going to enjoy it, and so I was right. Self fulfilling prophesy? Maybe. True nonetheless.

I did do a tremendous amount of research before the trip, bought Fodors, and planned each day in excruciating detail. I knew exactly what to expect, I guess I was just hoping that one of those million dreams would wipe off on me and I would enjoy it. Instead my dream was to get the he11 out.

Regarding our choice of weeks, well, school vacation and all, this was the week. I knew it would be crowded, but how the heck can the fine folks at Disney World allow 25,000 people into MK on the same day? Don't they know that's a recipe for misery? Don't they have a maximum occupancy, and then they shut the door?

I am glad that you all love it there, eating $8 greasy turkey legs and wearing your light-up ears. Enjoy it.

I'll be at the Louvre without you, while you're riding MISSION: HURL without me.

I went to the Louvre this summer too. I'm telling you DISNEYLAND PARIS is the place for you!

Beleive it or not you can go to Europe on a vacation and love WDW too!
