I Got The Part!!!!

Thou reputation doth precede you! lol ;)

I had wanted to remember to ask you how you did at the audition -- it was the 25th, right? I'm SO HAPPY for you! I know how that feeling is. We're just finishing up our last performances this coming weekend of "Gypsy."

I have to tell you what happened at this past Saturday night's performance...

I play Mama Rose and the first scene went fine. I exited stage right and proceeded to do a quick costume change, thinking I was going into Scene 3! Scene 2 is the scene in the living room in Seattle, with my Papa. Well, I'm going around like a maniac backstage, changing and frantically asking where Lanny is. He's in Scene 3 with me. NOBODY is asking me why I'm asking for Lanny. NO ONE is correcting me and telling me it's only Scene 2. NO ONE is questioning me whatsoever.

Well, Lanny and I go on stage (for Scene 3) and as soon as I set foot on stage, I notice the set pieces for the LIVING ROOM FOR SCENE 2!!!!!

I could have DIED right then and there!

Well, there was nothing we could do except continue with Scene 3 and go on.

The really BAD part was that in skipping Scene 2, they man who plays my Papa is not in any other scene in the show, so he didn't even get to go on that night! Some people told me later that they think it was kind of a subconscious action on my part, because this guy has not gotten any of his lines right on any night and, in fact, completely blanks out right on stage and just stares at me! I've had to fill in his lines or feed him his lines every performance.

Needless to say, that's NOT why I did what I did. It was shear panic/nervousness, etc. as I had over 30 people I knew in the audience that night and just freaked for some reason. In fact, I even skipped my first song of the show by missing that scene.

My musical director said they didn't know what was going on. She told me afterward that she's seen pretty much everything so far in musical theatre, but that this was a FIRST for her.

Everyone was very good-natured about it, including the guy playing Papa, and I was really the one that was the hardest on myself. Even my director was OK with it.

GOD, I hope that NEVER happens again in my lifetime!!!!!

Once again, CONGRATS and good luck with rehearsals and in "researching" your character!

P.S. My husband just was cast in "Bus Stop"

Congrats Kelli!!! Break a leg! :)

From one TC to another, Congratulations!!! Think SUSAN LUCCI!
