Believe it or not, I'm back!!!
It was just an insane Spring semester with the kids & school that I lost track of a lot of things. And I also started doing some serious scrapbooking so I could try to catch up on my backlog of albums to be made (such as the one for this trip). But now with our summer vacation behind us (which included a trip to
Disneyland and California Adventire!) and with the kids back in school, I'm ready to get started again!
Okay - I left you all hanging after seeing Pocahontas & her Forest Friends, which Sweetie Girl is still talking about. But it wasn't enough Pocahontas for her, so we boarded the Wildlife Express train...
over to Rafikis - the Conservation Station ...
so she could spend some one-on-one time with her favorite Disney princess.
We love trains, mostly because my father is a model railroader. He gave us all the passion for trains. So, half of the fun of going to the Conservation Station was because we could ride this train. All Aboard!
Mick also likes to ride trains, mostly because he doesn't have to listen to all of the "please stay in your seat" rules. It must be nice!
It was cool to see where the animals "live" in the evenings, too.
So, we arrived at the station.
We stopped by the kidcot place on the way (the kids had fun there) before we got up to the main building to search for Pocahontas. But we were also quicky sidetracked when we saw the snakes.
And Mick got to pose with a CM and her tarantula.
Alas, Pocahontas was not at the meet & greet station, but we were quickly informed that she would be out after this wild and crazy one took his break:
Ummm, Rafiki, that is.
But after what seemed like an eternity, Pocahontas appeared. Sweetie Girl was almost speechless! Pocahontas was thrilled to see her dressed in her costume and made sure to say that she was the only Pocahontas that she had seen that day.
Then the CM who was assisting Pocahontas suggested that they pose for this next photo, which I thought was a wonderful idea:
There were very few other children to see Pocahontas, so she spent a lot of time just chatting with Sweetie Girl when other children were not around. She was just wonderful! They spent time talking about the other characters in the movie, about animals and ecology, and about Sweetie Girl and her interests. I got a bit of it on film - it was so precious!
Sweetie Girl was loath to leave her, but it was time for Pocahontas to take her break. So we all went out to see and pet the animals.
I had no idea what to expect at the Conservation Station. I read so many mixed reviews of the place that we just had to check it out for ourselves. Well, we really didn't have a choice since Pocahontas was there. But we had a wonderful time! While Sweetie Girl was becoming best friends with Pocahontas, Handsome and Buddy Boy were in an out of all the sound booths and reading all of the displays. I guess we missed the main event of the day since that morning a tiger had been getting his dental check-up and the place had been packed (we were told).
Would we visit there again? In a heartbeat! It's not a thrill ride, but it was a fantastic getaway place from the hustle & bustle of the park. We were there for at least an hour and the kids didn't want to leave when it was time to go. We've already decided that on our next WDW trip we will spend at least two days in Animal Kingdom, just because there is so much to
see outside of the rides- and we only touched the surface!
So we boarded the train...
so we could return to civilization...
to say "good riddance" to EE...
exit the park...
and make our way over to Boma for dinner.
And you can read all about that in my
dining TR, if you want.
Next up: Epcot!
