I have been involved in my local Baseball League many years now. We were just asked to send two of our tee ball teams to the All Star Game festivities, there is a little ball field accross Macovy Cove, and on the Friday before the All Star game our little 5-6 year olds will play an exibition game at that field.

They asked me to go and photograph the event for the league, and to be able to provide/sell pictures to the parents of the kids playing.

Thought that was kind of cool.

Very cool! I was asked to do something similar for a local soccer team at a tournament. You might want to check with the league to see what their expectations are for the pictures to be available to the parents. With the soccer tournament I had to have the photos available same day which made it a logistics challenge. We ended up with a hotel room close to the field and runners with photos and memory cards so that we could fulfill orders. We pulled it off but it was exhaustive. Hopefully your baseball group will be a little more relaxed and flexible.

Great job.

Now you need the right equipment for the job, make sure you know what time of day/night the game will be played and if it is a night game how good are the lights. I imagine they will let you get on the field for your shooting so REACH might not be as big a concern as speed(aperture).

It is 11am for the event, so lighting should be an issue. I have a 70-200 f/2.8 and a 1.4x extender which will give me 98-280 f/4. I think I should be fine with that. I also have a 430 ex flash that I will have with me for fill light if needed. (won't help with the game shots, but would with any team photos)
