In Don McLean's American Pie, who is he referring to when he sings about the Jester?

the court jester stole the kings crown.

Did you write the book of Love & do you have faith in the God above?

If the Bible tells you so.
Now do you believe in rock 'n roll?
Can music save your mortal soul?
And can you teach me how to dance reeeeaaaalllll slow?

And as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in hell
Could break that Satan spell

I don't get it...why is bob dylan a jester?

And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrifical rite
I saw Satan laughing with delight
The day the music died

you guys inspired me...i went looking for the lyrics to the song, american pie, and i found this site...it tells what the song is believed to be about. it breaks it up into each line or section and gives what it's rumored to portray...it's very cool!

check it out if you get a chance...the disection of the lyrics doesn't start until about halfway down the page...
