I Finally Saw Avatar.

I liked it, it was okay. I didn't think it was great. It was the space version of Dances with Wolves. Am I the only one who wasn't blown away?

You aren't the only one. The CGI was great, it was a visually stunning film. The story and just about everything else was blah. Pocahontas hit me deeper emotionally.

My favorite film of last year was Inglourious Basterds.

lol, I watched it with a friend who came out of the theatre teary eyed and exclaiming "It's James Cameron a genius" I had to bite my tongue so I wouldn't ruin the fact that not only was Avatar like this, but some parts of Pocahontas.

You're not the only one. Like PPs have said, it was visually stunning. I did enjoy it and couldn't believe how quickly such a long movie went by. That being said, I didn't love it. I also felt like it was so hyped up that it would be difficult to live up to the word of mouth it had gotten.

I agree, it was good but not great. It was at least 20-30 minutes too long.
The only reason I'd watch it again is too try to figure out why everybody else likes it so much.

Upon retrospection, I found the story to be less than original, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the movie one bit. No one has pretended that the story was original. It was meant to be evocative - with startling imagery. I think that it accomplished those goals. If the story has been told so many times, it just might be because it is a story worth telling again and again.

I loved it, it was good v bad same story since the westerns, but the idea was amazing and I was blown away by the technical aspect of it. I went away wishing I had written it!!

I liked it but then again I have never seen Dances with Wolves. My DH on the other hand absolutely loves it. He has seen it 5 times and is always looking for someone else to go with him.

I enjoyed it..which I don't usually enjoy fully CGI movies...so that was a plus but it was a predictable story...but still an enjoyable movie.

I saw Dances with Smurfs in 3D, and, as I said at the time, while it was visually stunning, it just did not grip me as a story. (Plus, The Last SIMurai had some plot holes you could drive trucks though.)

My guess is that it will win Best Picture, and that Bigelow will take Best Director for Hurt Locker.

I will go on record as saying I hated it. One of the worst movies I have ever seen. It was too long and the 3D didn't really do anything for me either. I went with my dad so I sat through it all but if I had been on my own I would have left. I knew I was in trouble when I was trying to have a nap about 1/2 way through to just avoid watching more. Like a PP said, I will be disappointed if it wins Best Picture.

I hated it. It was really disappointing, because we were really psyched about seeing the movie, and waited in line an hour on opening weekend.

The visuals were stunning, but the story and script were eye rollingly lame, and if it weren't for my kids (8 and 9) liking it so much, my DH and I would have walked out. I was horrified to check my watch and see there was over an hour and a half left to go!

I haven't seen it, but my dh finally saw it on Thursday. He said the 3d was fantastic, but the story was cheesy.
