I finally bought a pup!!!

Rog, I just looked on the Mythbusters site because they ran an experiment with a white and a black car: identical cars, left in the blazing full sun, windows closed and the black car got just 9 degrees hotter than the white. I'm thinking with screen walls, a smidge of shade and a white roof a black side-walled pop-up is gonna be a degree or two hotter at the most. I'd say go for it. If the idea of black with a white top is just too much, maybe you could go silver?

I've personally never done any experimentation with vehicular temperatures, but I'm here with God as my witness to say: any color car that sits in direct sunlight on a 95+ degree day is going to be insufferably hot inside.

If you camp in places that are heavily wooded (i.e. Ft Wilderness), the color of the camper body won't make a spit of difference. Go for the black!!

You can also buy reflective shields for the tent ends of the pup. They look similar to the ones you buy to put in your windshield. And, you can coat the roof of the pup with reflective roof paint (which you might want to do anyway).

Pimp that pup, Rog!!! :thumbsup2

Hey man....that mickey is flameless!!!! Shan....I tried to color that picture black just like you did, and I couldnt make it look worth a damn!!! Youve got some real skills there, buddy!!! I just posted on the decals thread that I AM GOING BLACK...and ya know what they say.....once ya go black, ya never go back!!!(corney, I know). And Im AM going to paint the roof black as well.....and in good time, I'll buy some big ol' green flames to cover much of the roof. Hey, do you really think I could paint that vinyl strip that runs along the bottom of the tenting?

TREVOR(thumper ehhh)....Ive looked at the gizmos the second day after I got the pup.....great idea...so I made my own on the same day with a silver tarp and office clamps....the differnce in cooling is AMAZING!!!! Not only does it reflect the sun...it acts as insulation to keep the AC'd air in. I dont know how people with popups have ever survived without something like that. Here's some pics of my homemade gizmos:

these office clamps are really cheap and hold it perfectly:

DEB......you're right....it aint like Im gonna be camping in the Sahara!!!

I was thinking on my way home from work this morning about all of you here on the boards. Youve all helped me search and find a camper that I could afford, many of you have offered to check out and buy a camper in your area and help to deliver to a halfway mark where I could pick it up and pay you off. You're all very helpful in suggestions about the minor repairs that are arrising....and now you're helping me ROGify this thing.......WOW....you guys are INCREDIBLE!!! I owe you guys so much gratitude for all the help and friendship. No wonder Pete(the webmaster dude) has heard about this forum getting to be so popular......Im honestly proud to be a part of such a genuinely good hearted group of misfits, drunks and rejects!!! You're MY KINDA PEOPLE!!!!

LOL.....I was just making an observation!!! Ya didnt have to do that!!!!

That reminds me of something that would have been spoofed in this old comic book...anyone remember CAR-TOONS?

It was a definate classic...I especially like the special sedition ones that came with an iron-on centerfold!!! Car-toons, Cracked, and MAD were my main reading materials as a child. This may explain alot.

Oh yeah, I remember those and Archie and the gang while camping.

Spent a summer traveling across the country during the summer of '73 reading those when there was nothing but cornfields or desert for scenery. That and when I was trying to ignore my brother ;')

Speaking of the 70's anyone remember drive-in movies? I've got to see if they still have any in this area, take the kids before they are all gone.

we still have a couple drive-in's close by, my kids love them

Ok, one last little pre-vis and then I need to get some real work done:

Your pop up is going to look so awesome Rog! You won't even need a DID sign for us to find you. I hope to see it in person some day!

Roger:

The only problem I see is those office clamps corrode like crazy - not made to get wet. If they do, you are going to have brown streaks down your canvas that you'll never get off.
