I thought I'd start another thread because the other ones are so nasty, putting down different skaters and insults all around. Please keep this thread insult free.

My heart just breaks for her, to work so hard, 5 World championships, 9 National championships and Olympic silver and bronze. To only be brought down by an injury like this, so sad.

Maybe she'll go on to coaching, I think she'd make a great coach.

I'm sure this is not the way she wanted to "go out", but I think she handled the entire situation with grace and class.

I agree she handled it incredibly well. ::yes::

Don't think she ever won gold.

Whoops I meant to write bronze, thanks for catching that, I'll fix it now.....

I feel for her too, and I do think she handled it all with grace. I think she has an amazing talent and I'll be sad not seeing her skate at this olympics.

I love watcing Michelle skate. She doesn't have the most powerful jumps, but she is so graceful. I hate that she's not going to get to "go for the gold" but I agree that it was such a mature decision for her to give up her spot.

Who is replacing her? Anyone know?

Emily Hughes, the younger sister of Sarah Hughes.

I feel that she handled the situation with a lot of maturity. She wanted that elusive gold medal so bad, and then to have an injury do her in just doesn't seem right.
I hope she will go on to have a career in skating somehow.

Too bad Emily didn't get a chance to march in the Opening Ceremonies.

She stated in an interview she wouldn't have anyway, they not leaving for a couple days. Sasha isn't even there yet.

As a former athlete, I know that she must be just devastated.
There is nothing worse than not getting the chance to try and prove yourself.
Hopefully she won't be asking "Why?" for the rest of her life?

Yes, she has had such a terrible and disappointing career and life. I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out for her..........NOT. I actually feel somewhat happy for her not having to go through the humiliation of explaining how she could take an unearned Olympic spot and do so embarassingly poor on the ice, yet again gagging in the spotlight. That said, I do think she handled herself with more grace, dignity, and strength than almost anyone could have. I do admire and respect that. She did go out with her head held high--as she should have. She has had one of the very best skating careers of all time and should be remembered for that, period.

wow - try & have a thread for fans of Kwan & someone has to come along and slam her for "taking an unearned spot". What is it that people don't realize that her petitioning for a spot wasn't so unusual & awful?! She had every right to ask for a spot. The US Skating Committee could have denied her, but they felt that, if healthy, Kwan had a good shot at a medal for the US.

Didn't she have to prove to the committee that she was healthy? They could have said no at any time. She didn't steal her spot. As for missing the ceremonies, a lot of thsoe that compete towards the end don't go to the opening ceremonies, just as those that compete early might leave before closing ceremonies.

I always liked Michelle, I thought she handled this with class. She listened to her body and made the discision early enough for Emily to get there and compete.

Why do some have to be so negative? Oh well I tried, sorry guys.
