I feel so overwhelmed and stressed

My DH is working all day today and tonight and from 8am to 7pm tomorrow...Here is my to do list

Make a wreath for my kitchen. I bought all sorts of gingerbready candy type stuff that I was going to glue on to a lit wreath I bought. Actually I saw one at this incredible Christmas/garden center but it was 300 bucks, I thought I could try to make one

Make garland for around the fireplace, same thing, I saw it and thought I can do it...

Write my 4 year old's thank you notes from his birthday last week

Start making our Christmas cards...I want to get a picture next week at WDW so when I get home I just have to print them and glue them onto the cards. I even know what I want the inside of the card to say.

Put out our Department 56 houses

Finish shopping, I wanted to be in pretty good shape before we went away so it was not so much to deal with when we got home. I am in great shape Santa wise for our son, but everyone else in the family, I am clueless

Iron and pack for our trip

And our friends just called to see if we wanted to have dinner and hang out tonight.

I just feel like I am coming out of my skin. Oh, and could I be doing stuff right now while my son is taking a nap, sure, but I chose to de-stress by reading the DIS!!

Thanks for letting me vent

One thing at a time! You have a list at least that is a start.

Pixie dust on it's way

Do what you HAVE to.....and let the rest slide!!! You'll still have a great holiday whether you get around to the wreath & garland or not.

Breathe!!!

You know, I can remember feeling that way for holidays for many years, until two years ago.

Two years ago, we lost both of my in-laws, within 9 months of each other. My DFIL died March 18th and my DMIL died Decemebr 9th. We cared for my DMIL in her home for 3 months prior to her death(from September 10th on). That Fall, the leaves didn't get raked, the Halloween decorations didn't get, and neither did the Thanksgiving decorations. As a matter-of-fact we ate Thanksgiving dinner off of paper plates, because there wewre many people at my DMIL's house that day, knowing it would be her last Thanksgiving. A lot of stuff didn't get done for Christmas either, because you don't much feel like decorating for Christmas that soon after someone dies.

I kind of look at it as their last gift to us...the realization that the world will not end if the "fluff" the holidays does not get done. The important thing is that the people you know and love are happy and healthy.

Sounds like you're ready for a great vacation. We'll be waiting to take good care of you.

Have a safe journey and best wishes.

I'll help you with that list: skip the making of the wreath & garland; don't bother putting out the Dept 56 this year. Have dinner with the friends, write the notes just before bed tonight (& tomorrow night). Iron & pack tomorrow. Make a list of people you still need to shop for & plan on getting things from WDW! Now - isn't that better?!
(seriously - good luck on getting things done!)

I'm with Splsh - do what has to be done right now and the rest will have to wait until you have the time to do it. I love this time of year, but the stress we place upon ourselves is too much sometimes.

Hope you remember to take some time for yourself, even if it's only 20 minutes in a hot bath :D

Minnie- I need someone like you around here when I'm losing it ;)

I knew I could count on my DIS friends for support:D

My son and I put up 5 of the Dept 56 houses, the rest we will work on tomorrow. We are going to hit Best Buy and the mall in the am early and pick up a few things. Thank you notes I will work on in the afternoon. Packing and ironing I will do tomorrow night when we do Sunday Family Movie night.:D

We did go over to our friends house for dinner, my girlfriend and I talked pver coffee in the dining room while the children all played upstairs. I felt so much better!!

Thank you again everyone:grouphug:
