I feel so helpless...

I hope the memories of the many years you shared with Tony will bring you some peace and comfort in the days ahead. May Tony gallop and frolic in peace through pastures that are always green under skies that remain ever blue.

 So sorry to hear about Tony. Losing a pet is devastating. Take care.

So very sorry to hear about Tony, BriarfoxinWA. So sad to lose our pets and buddies. Know well he is there, in a pasture by the bridge, I bet prancing regally and no pain......

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am so sorry for you loss. That is just awful.
Prayers for you. :grouphug:

After reading this, I just went out and gave my 35(?) year old TB gelding a big hug (and a few apples). I know I'm going to have to face this kind of decision with him (probably before winter), and it's never easy. You ended his suffering, and set him free. Hugs from Woody and his owner...

As a fellow horse owner myself, my thoughts and prayers are with you .

Another horse owner stopping by with a few hugs. The horse that I learned on was lost to colic this year. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

I counldn't find this before my first post, but I looked some more and found it. I wrote it when the horse I used to ride died. I changed it a little and made all (i hope) the he's into she's.

Her eyes closed that day and the pain left her body. When she opened them again, she was no
longer in her home, but the grassiest pasture she’d ever seen. She was scared at first, but there
were many other horses there. Most she’d never seen before. Gently she stood on once weak
legs to find that she was no longer weary. Looking everywhere with wide brown eyes and ears
pricked forward at attention, familiar whinnies came from the distance. Running toward the
familiar face she noticed that she was moving faster than she ever had before. Gaining speed, her
hooves began to leave the ground. When she looked behind her, she had wings like a bird.

Now she can be with you always. Always flying a few steps ahead as your guardian angel,
making sure you stay safe, and sending a warm breeze against your face so you remember her
always.

Let her have a peaceful passing.. or survive... :wizard:

That was very nice Lizzie. :grouphug:

Thanks everyone. It's been a difficult day, now we are going to start to try to find a home for my DH's horse. She's crippled and at 23 I don't think she will adjust well to being on her own.

I'm without a horse for the first time in 27 years...my DS(15) said today that I better start shopping right away for new horse...I think it will be a long time before I'm ready for that.

BrerLizzie - thank you so much for the poem...it's wonderful.

BriarfoxinWA, my heart goes out to you. Many hugs are coming your way. :grouphug:

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I almost lost my mare to colic eleven months ago... and it was probably the worst two weeks of my life. :grouphug:
