My DH who is usually not very emotional about things like this came home and went straight out to hug his mare last night.
I had a nice email from my friend and fellow dis'er DixieDreamer - she kept Tony for a couple of months for her daughter to try out a year or two ago. We showed dressage together for many years, she and her horses and myself and Tony. Tony was very beautifully colored bay Appaloosa and had that wonderful Appaloosa temperment (if you've ever had one you'll understand what I mean)
We used to say that was why the indians lost the war... She was the most polite horse to lead that I ever had the pleasure of owning. Even when she was excited and might be leaping 5 feet off the ground - she would never so much as tug on the lead line. We had the pleasure of owning her for 15 years. My Dad bought her at a horse sale - my mom sent me after him with strict instruction - Don't let him buy me another horse! You see my mother's horse had just been put to sleep due to a broken leg. Tony was about 300 pounds underweight and had been a former barrel racing horse. Mom rode Tony for about a year they quit riding for physical reasons. I started using Tony for my Dressage horse and we had some modest success. She was a challenge at times but she had a great personality. I had retired Tony from showing about 5 years ago (I can't believe it's been that long). The combination of her developing some mild arthritis and me having 2 young children just made it too difficult to keep up with the training and showing. So she's been one of my resident pasture ornaments.
Goodbye Tony - I'll miss you...
My only regret is that I didn't find you sooner yesterday so I could have eased you pain...

's again, BF. I thought of your buddy, Dbl D, when I first read about Tony the other day here. My best again, to both you and your family.
She says they are alot like children and have such minds of their own.
