I dont post that often but I knew you guys would understand.
My iPhone is dead. Its only 5 months old but nothing I do will bring it back to life. I used it Friday afternoon and it was fine although the battery was low. I picked it up on Saturday and saw that it was off. I assumed the battery had gone flat and on Sunday tried to charge it. I got a message saying connect to itunes to reset. So I did this and itunes gave me the message that it detected an iphone in recovery mode and that I must restore it before it can be used with itunes. And then a minute later it was black. Itunes can no longer detect it. I can't charge it. I can't turn it on.
I've googled dead iphones and tried holding the wake button and home button at the same time. But nothing happens.
I'm just lost without it. I'm still stuck in a contract for the next 19months paying for something that doesn't work. And of course I've been telling DH for the last 5 months how wonderful it is and how he should have got one instead of his Nokia. Now its his turn to gloat.
Hmmm. I thought I would feel better by venting. But it doesn't really help. I miss my iPhone.:headache:

I feel your pain - I'd be lost without my iPhone.

I work in electronics repair, so I see this happen a lot. Just for one last go-round to check if it is absolutely dead - just make sure of a few things: When you try to do a hard reset (holding down sleep/wake and home at the same time), make sure it is connected to a power source. Additionally, try at least three or four times because they have to be pushed at the EXACT same time for it to work. Also, when you hold the buttons down, give it about 30 seconds before you let go; don't just push them and let go, or even 5 seconds - hold those bad boys down for a solid 30 seconds.

This may or may not help, but it's helped me fix a good handful of customers' phones/touches when they thought it was dead for good. :thumbsup2

Good luck!

Are you anywhere near an Apple store? So long as you didn't get the water sensor activated, if it is only 5 months old you should still be under warranty. When we were in Vegas, we had issues with DH's phone. They looked at the water sensor first and checked a few other things they couldn't fix right away, and then gave my DH another one right there on the spot (his was 10 months old). We didn't bring the laptop with us on vacation so we had to wait till we got home to sync it with all of his contacts/ical, but as soon as we got home, it was as good as new (well, it was new!)

good luck!

ugh - after typing this, I looked at your location. Melbourne, Australia. No where near Apple. I'm so sorry.

I'm sorry to hear that! Mine went through the washing machine last week and I had to get a new one. I was lost without it!

I agree that you should tryand get it fixed. Don't give up!

We had the exact thing happen to my DH's Iphone and brought it in and they switched it out at no charge and it was after the 1 year warrenty phase.. does not hurt to get it looked at.

Yeah - the Apple Store will let you make an appointment and they will work on it for free. We did this with DD17's Iphone and they determined the cause of her iphone constantly being erased were some songs she had downloaded that were corrupted.

Let us know how it goes!!

Thanks guys. I wont give up. The closest Apple Store is the one in Chadstone. Its about 1 1/2 hours from here but I will try and make some time to get down there. As redboxcar suggested, I've tried the hard reset probably 30times now for 30seconds at a time. But nothing.

Don't worry! Apple is known for its excellent customer service. It's all part of the premium you pay for Apple hardware.

I've been through a total of 5 iPhone since they first came out. All of them were replaced under warranty from Apple. No problems, no questions asked. As long as there isn't obvious evidence of abuse (cracked screen, case, or water sensor activated), you're going to be just fine.

If you can't get into the Apple store, give customer service a call and you can probably just mail it in.

Chances are you'll get an new phone. There isn't really anything you can "fix" on an iPhone. So if a hard reset/software reinstall doesn't work...then they're going to hand you a new phone right there.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

Go to the apple store. I have had two problems with my phone and they were able to fix it in minutes.:goodvibes

I feel your pain! I converted to an iPhone a few months ago and can't imagine Life without it.

Good luck getting it restored.

Hi guys
Thought I'd update you. I have a new phone. The old one couldn't be saved. DH took it to the Apple Store who charged him $250 for a new one. They said that the old one had been dropped and thats why it wouldn't work. It hadn't been dropped but it had a chip in the corner which happened about 2 days after I got it. Its been fine for 5 months after that but they insisted it had been dropped and thats why it didn't work. I'm a bit disappointed but had to have it replaced. I'm going to wrap this one up in cotton wool.

Sorry they charged you for a new phone!

At least now you have a new phone and are whole again.

May IPhone #1 rest in peace.

I got one of those "Frog" cases for mine. I knocked mine off the counter onto ceramic tile and the phone sort of did a few spins in mid air, landed face up and then clunked over face down. I was afraid to pick it up to see what may have happened. Nothing, it was in good shape. I believe that case made all the difference in the world. I took the case off, inspected the phone and it was fine.

I'm glad you were able to get a new one.
