I don't want to eat at Cape May Dinner Buffet...

The scenario is, my friend really wants to eat here. We went last year and I barely ate anything here because it didn't appeal to me (I'm not big on seafood). I don't want to make him go by himself, but I certainly don't want to pay $39.99 to just sit there. Can I tell them I have some type of allergy or I need gluten free and just get something simple to eat while he goes to town on crab legs? I don't think they'll let me go in without paying since it's a buffet.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I think they have "enough" things at the buffet that are not seafood, so they aren't going to give you anything extra. Did you look at the kids selections? I think they have a beef dish and fried chicken and maybe pizza and vegetables/salads. What are you looking for?

I understand they have options. But I'm not paying $39.99 to eat kids pizza, I hope you can understand my dilemma lol

I get where you're coming from, because I'm the only person in my family that likes seafood. You can tell your friend to go alone, pay for you not to each much, or skip it. Or you can suck it up, pay the tab and eat whatever you can stomach. It seems like there were some non seafood options, but I know DW didn't care for them.

According to the menu online, they have soups, salads, a carving station, chicken, pasta, potatoes, and vegetables on the buffet in addition to the seafood offerings. (And these aren't from the kids' menu.) If you don't want to eat those foods, tell your friend to go alone. Please don't lie in restaurants about having allergies or sensitivities.

I would second the above PP's suggestion to have your friend eat alone. You can book your own ADR at the same general time and then both can meet up back in Epcot. I've gone solo to Cape May dinner buffet a number of times and its no biggie. In fact, because it is a buffet it is one of the easier, painless solo dining experiences because the time goes by so quickly since you are up and getting food refills. That sounds like the best solution possible and it allows the 2 of you to stay on good terms without any drama. Possibly "sweeten" the deal by suggesting that you meet up for dessert or night caps later on to compare dinner notes. If both of you have smart phones, you could easily coordinate a time during dinner to connect/link to check in to see how the other is doing. I don't have this but I think its called 'facetime'? Make an awkward situation into something interesting and new.

Oh for goodness sakes! There is plenty there to choose from if you decide to eat there. I do not like buffet seafood and I found plenty to eat. If you do not want to eat there, have your friend go alone. I took my two little Princesses alone to 1900 PF because their mother did not want to eat and did not want to pay for a meal she was just sitting through.

Cape May will NOT prepare something special if you have an allergy, they will show you what is safe. Please DO NOT lie! People whose lives depend on DIsney trusting that the allergies they declare are real eventually will suffer the consequences of your deception. If you do not like anything on the buffet at least tell the server teh truth and maybe the Chef will agree to make you something, but be aware that this is a buffet so he is not required to do so.

Would you guys consider going off property to eat? Maybe there's a crab shack/seafood place nearby that has food you would enjoy also.

Does your friend know you didn't enjoy it last year? I know I wouldn't ask my friend to go back to a restaurant I know they don't like. Or maybe suggest going there on alternate trips?

What about it really appeals to your friend? Can you fine a similar restaurant that will make you both happy? I completely understand not wanting to eat there. My DD12 thought it was fantastic when we ate there last summer. I felt like I'd spent a huge chunk of money to eat at Old Country Buffet. DD12 was so annoyed I wouldn't book it again, but I hold the purse strings, so she didn't have that much to say about it.

When I went they had strip loin (beef) at a carving station, pork ribs and baked chicken . None of this was at the kids' station.

I agree to split up.

Oh come on now, it's not that bad. Cape May offers stringy and anorexic crab legs to go along with it's institutional quality food that are not offered at Old Country Buffet. :rotfl2::lmao:

Have you thought about Garden Grove on Friday and Saturday? They have a seafood buffet, but with pretty good prime rib. A little different.

LOL. The crab legs didn't stand out one way or the other, which is a good thing, I think. The only buffet I've really enjoyed at WDW was the breakfast at Tusker House.

:lmao: I admit that I've never eaten there, but the crabs scare me. Crab is rarely good at a buffet and I'm betting this is snow crab (lowering the odds to a nil amount). Crab for us is an at home food, because I'm super picky.

We just ate there tonight and I was pleasantly surprised about how good it was. We ate there about 6 years ago and didn't care for it but thought it was much better tonight. Theres LOTS to choose from thats non-seafood. They had 3 different lettuce salads, a quinoa salad, assorted veggie salads, fruit, cheese. Hot stuff was turkey and rice soup, strip loin (carved), mashed potatoes, green beans, boiled potatoes, corn, mac and cheese, (homemade- not stoffers kind), chicken and mushroom dish, baked chicken legs and a wonderful vegetarian pasta, 3 different breads and a bunch of desserts. Do you not like shrimp or anything seafood related?
