Hi- My very first DISboards question after a few years of lurking on and off!

In the past, I've had ground floor rooms at the Poly and YC, and I've really loved the whole sitting outside before bed/taking mini walks kind of thing thats possible with a first floor patio room. I was thinking of The Swan for my next trip... do their ground floor rooms have easily accessible patios? Or do any other patio lovers have a suggestion for the ultimate patio experience? :lmao:

I love the courtyard patios at WL - there are bunnies and ducks, lizards, also I love the view of the former Discovery Island when the birds are roosting or taking off in the morning. There are also many shore birds. On the back side of the lodge is the little pond and many visitors have seen the otters that live there.

I could be totally wrong here but I don't think the Swan has ground floor rooms. I'm trying to picture where those rooms would be. I think the first floor is just the restaurants, the lobby, gift shop and convention center.

If you still want that location, the Yacht Club and the Beach Club have some nice first floor rooms with patios.

For the ultimate experience for the morning, look at the Fort Wilderness Cabins. You would have a deck there with a picnic table. I loved sitting out there in the morning waiting for the rest of my family to wake up. Best part - no one cares if you are sitting out there in your PJs. Mini walks would be great since vehicle traffic is at a minimum. It's soooooo quiet over there too. Just a suggestion.

IMO, nothing beats the ground floor rooms at the Poly, provided you're not facing the parking lot.

We just had a ground floor courtyard view in July. It was GREAT! Definately saw the bunnies and ducks every morning. You could hear the water from the nearby stream and you were steps from the pool.

I am usually NOT a ground floor fan, but this one I loved!

Not sure about the Swan but the Dolphin has quite a few 1st floor rooms with patios. We have also had a patio instead of a balcony at CR and the Polynesian.

We were in Rapa Nui last month. Our room faced the parking lot but was shielded from view by the landscaping. From certain vantage points/angles you could see a part of the driveway, but it really did not have an impact on our enjoyment of the patio. And it was very nice to be so close to our rental car.

We also had a woods view on the first floor of Wilderness Lodge years ago. It was very peaceful (but I kept expecting to see a bear come out of the woods!):)

We have had first floor/patio rooms at the Wilderness lodge (woods view facing the otter pond) and the Poly (garden view in Tokelau) and enjoyed them both!

Two weeks ago, we had a patio room at the Poly in longhouse Aetearoa, and it was great! We loved just sitting there and staring at the people on the passing monorails who were staring back at us! :teeth: It was a fun view!

I had a ground floor patio room at WL but I didn't like it, since it was directly next to the fence around the loading dock, so I was hearing trucks all day. My luck, it seems! I think I would have far enjoyed an inner courtyard!

At the Swan, I had a 10th floor room with no balcony, so can't help out on that one! :)
