I don't like Boardwalk

We are going to BWV for the first time in Jan. We currently have a studio, preferred pool/garden room with a waitlist for standard. It is a short trip. I wonder if I should waitlist a BW view instead.

We are looking forward to our stay and hope that all goes well.

We've stayed at all the DVC's and I sort of think of them as flavors of ice cream. When I was a kid in the early 1970's - going to Baskin Robins was the biggest treat. I'd make my parents read every single flavor of ice cream, and yet I'd always end up with vanilla. A few years later, I moved to mint chocolate chip - where my heart remains to this day.

But every now and then - I want something different. Gold Medal Ribbon or Strawberry Cheesecake - or even some odd flavor or the month. I always like it - even if it can't rival mint chocolate chip in my heart.

I'm really glad that DVC offers so many very distinct experiences and I'm glad they are all so vastly different. There's no way to compare SSR to VWL - or HHI to VB - or BCV to BWV - or even SSR to OKW. Each offers a completely different experience.

I think most of us have our personal favorite resort - but I'm glad that I can sample so many different experiences. I think some "flavors" of DVC are stronger than others and more likely to provoke a love/hate response. (VWL,AKV,BWV - the most heavily themed) - but I'd rather have a bunch of different experiences to choose from than have it all be vanilla.

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 That was said very well. I feel the same really. I could/would stay at any of them if that was what was available at the time. Sure I have a fave or two....but I can be happy anywhere when I am at WDW.

With a couple of other resorts saying the same things as in this thread are perceived by some as resort bashing. Personally I don't care what other people think about the resorts I prefer, I'll make my own judgments as to what and where I like and would expect others to do the same. We can discuss our preferences (either way) and it doesn't hurt me in the least of everyone totally hates the resorts I prefer.

We are staying at BWV for our anniversary trip in October. I am really excited bc have never stayed there and we will be so close to Epcot for food and wine. I have to admit though, I get nervous when I hear about people bashing a certain resort. I try not to listen to reviews and take them with a grain of salt, but its hard.

I know everyone has their favorites. So far I have liked everywhere I have stayed but have LOVED BCV and AKV. I hope to love BWV too.

If you read all the posts on the DVC forums, after just a brief time, you'll hear terrible reviews about every single DVC resort. Widen your search to the rest of the DISboards, and you'll find negative things about every single Disney deluxe, moderate and value resort. Of course, you'll find positive reviews of every single resort too.

Everyone has different tastes and preferences. Don't let others opinions influence you -- stay at a resort and form your own opinion.

I happen to love BWV, BCV, VWL and AKV. But for each of those, I can find plenty of posts from different people who don't like each of them. It doesn't concern me one bit.

BWV is at the bottom of our list to stay again, for various reasons. But I would never tell anyone not to stay there.

I know I posted to this thread but I can't seem to find it. Oh Well:confused3
Boardwalk does need updating I wish they would give it a newer look. I know it is themed after the shore and what not but I think it makes everything look old not old in vintage but old and runned down. They do need new beds and bedding I wish all DVC would get the heavenly beds.
I also had view problems, paying with points for preferred and having a Huge tree as my view where I could see anything. I did get my points back once after that they would NOT do it again. I was sooo mad.
I request room numbers now I think you get a better chance on getting what you want that way.
With that said I love the location. I don't think I could give BWV up because of the location.

however, we love BWV & SSR for their unmatched elegance & charm, & great locations with a myriad of activities at your fingertips. btw, we find the "long walk" complaints humorous, as we tend to walk miles in the parks anyway:confused3 .

different strokes....:)

So glad to know I'm not the only person that finds that odd.:lmao:

Howard Johnson restraunts had 28 flavored ice creams, something for everyone. I own at SSR & OKW but stay at BW with BWV and love everything about it.

They installed new beds at most of the DVC resorts last summer. Things get worn out because of high occupancy. And then there are the members and non-members who just trash the place because they can and no one stops them.

That is very well said! For the next 4 trips (Dec.-Family, Jan.-DH, Jan.-me & girlfriend, June-Family) we're at home at AKV because we've gotten value rooms each trip, and we don't have many points so the savings outweigh everything else ;). But once we either get out of the "borrowing hole" or I convince DH to buy more points (:lmao: ) I really hope to visit all the DVC resorts :goodvibes . When we go in Dec. we plan to spend our arrival day resort hopping to see the decorations, so maybe DH will fall in love with another resort and I can use that to convince him to buy more points! :rotfl:

We have been to BWV several times and recently went in June. We experienced alot of problems with our room, from the wear/stained carpet, broken shower door (which never got fixed during our 9 night stay) and our fridge died the second day we were there and we lost all of our food (which they reimbursed, but took a day and a 1/2 to get a replacement).

We have always been happy with this resort until this trip, just too much to excuse. We came home and sold all of our points to this resort because we'll never go back. It was always my favorite resort.

Go and have a great time. Maybe it's only certain rooms/sections of the resort that are in need of updating.

If you have any of the problems that prplcrzy had, you need to call Maintenance immediately. Don't call the front desk because you actually get a call center who knows where, could be in Kansas. You don't actually get the front desk.

The few times we found a problem, we immediately called either Housekeeping (if it was a housekeeping problem) or Maintenance if it was a maintenance issue. In every case, they came and fixed the problem in a very short time.

wouldn't it suk, if we all together as a whole hated all of the resorts except for one?!

Opinions, opinions,...

We have been to the Boardwalk many times and it has been enjoyable until the last two times. The outside is still beautiful and well maintained, the lobby is lovely when you first walk in and both of those things build your expectations for the rest of the resort. Waiting for the elevators we found the carpet to be really worn and dirty, wallpaper in the hallway by our rooms was torn off parts of the wall, and our rooms felt old and worn, stained couches stained carpets made everything seem slightly unclean. I didn't have the desire to just relax at the resort given that feeling. I don't think this is a matter of people just having a preference for different kind of building styles or quiet or busy activity levels. This is a question of the rooms feeling old and dirty, I don't think anyone prefers dirty and stained over clean and maintained. We have decided to try our other resort options, but I know that if the Boardwalk were our only option we would probably sell our points.

I know there are people who love it but I just don't care for it. We just stayed there 2 days ago. The pool wasn't that great. DS did like the waterslide. The rooms seemed worn. The carpet was filthy. We are supposed to stay there in Nov but I already put us on the waitlist for SSR. Right now we are at Vero. I can offically say I have stayed at all DVC resorts.

We have stayed at OKW and AKV so far, and we are heading to SSR (home resort) in Feb. So now that you have stayed at all, which ones did you like best, least?

hmm... I've owned BWV since 2000 and luckily never seen the awful situations posted above.
Yeah, I've seen couch with pen marks (I assume a little kid went crazy with the pen) but that's not something horrible.
I've seen paints need to updated on cabinet but that won't affect my stay so much.
I even stayed there for our wedding recently (6 nights) and everything was beautiful (and trust me, I was in a crabby/tense mood up until the wedding day... :rotfl:) as always. My parents were quite impressed with the whole set up.

For people that've experienced the quality of the resort declining, maybe you should write a letter to DVC. Especially if you're an owner. As a fellow owner I would appreciate it if those things are resolved (that's why we pay the maintenance fee right?). Fortunately I've never seen those really awful things and hopefully I won't have to.

When we got home from our trip, my DH sent them an e-mail explaining the problems we had and how disappointed we were with the resort. In the e-mail he sent a link to the Timeshare Store postings so they could see that we were seriously selling our points. Someone from Disney called and spoke to him, but nothing further was done. They wanted us to give the resort another try and didn't seem to really care. Maybe it's because there are so many DVC people now.

We got home on 6/30 and haev already sold our BWV points (250) and are in the process of replacing them more OKW points.

Hopefully they will manage BWV better and keep up with it so these issues with the rooms won't become the norm.

We stayed there in June for the first time and were also disappointed with the accomodatons. the view - Lake view was great but between the long hallway walk and the shabbyness of the rooms (not to mention the paper plates -come on!) we were disappointed. Our home resort is BCV which we like a lot more.

Next Feb we are booked in a 1 br lake view at BWV again cause BCV was full but are on a waitlist for BCV. Hopefully we will get the transfer.

One positive note: The exercise room in BWV is more convenient than BCV where you have to walk half way between BC and Yacht Club.

Let's see...working my butt off in the hot sun all summer or freezing in the cold or walking a long hall or seeing worn carpet in WDW? I think I'll take the WDW then working!!!

Let's just enjoy the fact that we are on vacation. I don't care where I stay, as long as I get to stay there!!!!
