Hello....My name is Johnnie and I don't hate DVC either. In fact, I'm currently packing for my own personal Member Homecoming later this week. Look for me I'll be the one thoroughly enjoying all the ammenities of my non-home DVC resort...OKW. Maybe I'll even be proudly sporting my latest DVC gear.:p

MH thread

Excellent thread!!

yikes, what a thread (the MH thread). sgtpet, sorry you had to :duck: a few there...

DVC really is a wonderful thing to be a part of, but i also do agree that it's important to "occasionally take off the Mickey goggles and look critically :magnify: at all aspects of the program." (Johnnie, very well said, btw)

I certainly know you don't hate DVC, sgtpet. If you did, you wouldn't care what the heck they did, nor would you get worked up about it.... And, you likely WOULD sell your points! :teeth:

Sgtpet, I'm glad you said that, as everything I have ever seen you post on any subject I've been involved with has been nothing but hateful and condescending, usually based on the fact that some other aspect of the program is being wrongful to you, which is really irrelevant.

Now maybe it's just an aspect of things that I find distasteful. I grew up in a household where my parents were always looking for a 'discount' and doing nothing but moaning about it as unfair when they didn't get one. No matter if they were really entitled to one or not. I learned from that to find the good things and be happy about them than going around being so negative.

Does everything that DVC does or doesn't do wonderful? NO. Don't go putting words in my mouth. There are things that would be nice. The current event could have a better price structure. It would be very nice if we got the same kinds of offers the Fla residents get.

The difference is, I don't go looking for people who are posting about said event/discount to complain about DVC not offering some better deal, talking down to people about it.

Disney has no responsibility to us to offer ANYTHING at a discount. They didn't even have to create DVC; they could have just built those resorts, and charged us an exorbitant room rate that will get more expensive at time goes on. But they didn't. They did build DVC, giving us a great deal.

That deal is we get to stay in rooms that are plain better than even the deluxe resorts for a price the will not change from now till 2042. Unlike the deluxe resorts that will continue to get more expensive as time moves on.

They didn't have to make an arrangement with DCL. They didn't have to make an arrangement with the other Disney resorts. They didn't have to bother with the World Collection. But they did to give us more options. Are those values cheaper than the cash price? Maybe, maybe not. But to keep in mind DVC has to somehow take that point value we 'pay' and reimburse DCL or said Disney resort or other world hotel for it. DVC doesn't get that room/stateroom for free. And if someone wants to do such things I don't go berating them about it if they're not getting a 'deal', and I don't appreciate others doing the same to me.

And I don't go around saying drive-by things like 'it's a ripoff' or that people are 'suckers' for being involved in something thru DVC that actually costs money. I'd rather pay such money for special events than see my dues go up to subsidize them. Or subsidize events that I may not be interested in. Or subsidize us getting 'deals' outside DVC in some other manner that costs us. I frankly feel that DVC treats us fairly and responsibly. We have our deal, our discount. I'm sorry you don't see it that way.

I have 300-points & my Home Resort is also BCV. It is a great place to stay and we love it. :wave2:

I think we need to remember the purpose of the boards is to express opinions...we need to remember that not everybody's opinion is the same, and some negative statements may be made.

I personally get a little irritated when I or others ask questions on these boards and alot of people answer with statements like "you will love it", and all you hear is gushing about something. I don't find these responses helpful. Now, I realize that person responding seems to love whatever it is, but they don't know me and don't know what I like or dislike. Everything has good and bad things about it. Don't forget that negative opinions are helpful as well.

Case in point is when DH and I went to stay at WL for the first time. We were a little wary about the resort - not sure if it was our cup of tea, but we wanted to try it. As you know, there are tons of fans of WL, and all we heard was how much we would love it and how the particular view we had selected was so fantastic. Well, needless to say, we were pretty disappointed, in part due to such the high expectations that we had.

This may or may not relate to the post at hand, but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents and maybe vent a bit. I also feel that some people on these boards somewhat have 'Disney-rose-colored-glasses', and while I think the enthusiasm is great, and I certainly share it, when one reports negatively, just remember that it's their opinion.

And I welcome them, and do express them myself at times when I do have a bad experience. And your point about loving something goes both ways, the ones that hate something can get just as vehement about it too. The point in question is from the person who started this post, who in another post wrote condemning something with a very condecending response with exactly zero experience to back it up. It wasn't a fact of any considered opinion, unless of course you consider the following one.

It's a ripoff folks. Big money for nothing particulary special. DVC is not impressive when it comes to these things.

Does that look like a response that is in any way constructive? I don't. Especially in light of this person then going on to say they'd never go to any of these events, of which there has been one very successful one already.

I will admit there is some slanted opinions to such things. I personally had a very lousy experience at VWL and have written about it a number of times here already. I will explore this myself some more by staying at OKW for the first time in May, a place that regularly gets those kind of reports as you have said. I've visited the resort and sofar it does live up to them, but have never stayed there, yet. And I never outright 'gushed' about MH, I just stated my opinion, followed up by direct evidence of the last DVC member event, and let people decide for themselves.

Nope, sorry, no 'Disney-rose-colored-glasses' here. We voted our shares of stock to get Eisner out of office, just wish it would have fully succeded. There are lots of things about Disney I really do dislike, and could write mutiple paragraphs about it, but I don't do those kinds of things to just waste others time. If I dislike something Disney is doing, I write them directly, don't post about it here, UNLESS, it is something others should be warned about.

And as far as this upcoming event, either way I will provide a very clear report about it, no matter what happens.

The shocker of the week is that I own there I say it DVC merchandise and will wear it on my trip in a little over 2 months.

When someone asks your opinion, which is what this board (and all others like it) is...opinion, it is accepted and weighed along with others. It is not fact. Given enough opinions in one direction can sway you to make decisions in the same way. But ultimately the decision is yours. The opinions are what we are looking for and having a wonderful time does not mean that you will or will not...It's just someone elses take on their experiences.

All of the posters have helped me in some way or another, to make my own decisions.

Thanks.

ITA with Deemarch, and I add something more. I first started researching this board because we were considering buying into DVC (Ob. Disclaimer: SSR 300 pts 9/03 $74/pt briefs). I'm no stranger to boards/forums/newsgroups, and a very quickly learned who's opinions I valued (MG, tjkraz, PAMOKW, Nick, MarkRG, disneydiane to list only a few of the wonderful people here), who was knowlegable in which areas (Rich "Room size" Hyams, Cask "DVC Planner" Bill), and whom to take with a grain (or 10) of salt (taking the 5th here). So as long as the opinions don't get too personal - or nasty - I'd really rather hear everyone's opinion and make up my own mind (or what's left of it).

That being said, the "ripoff" and "sucker" comments did get to me a little (yep, DW and I are attending the MH; it will truly be our "Home"coming). Some have asked how an opinion on an event can be taken personally; well, I believe that these comments are aimed not only at the event, but at those who are attending - they imply a lack of judgement or some stupidity for anyone who is going. To me, this is the difference between saying "I don't like the food here" vs "How can anyone stomach the crappy food here?"; one is your opinion about the food, while the other casts doubt on anyone who does like the food. A fine distinction, true, but a distinction none the less.

Just my opinion on other people's opinions of opinions. Huh?

DrT....extremely well stated. There is quite a difference in making an opinion known rather than attacking others for having a different opinion, no matter how "subtle" the attack.

Unless of course, I'm in that "grain of salt" group of yours, in which case I'll feel compelled to launch a major attack! :p :p :p

Sounds to me like you got some hate e-mails. i don't give out my e-mail address for that reason. don't want to listen to the hate. Take your e-mail off your profile.

Thank you, DrT! :)
