L’Artisan de Glace
Order: 1 Scoop in a Cup- Caramel Fleur de Sel Ice Cream
After exploring a little more of Germany and making my way through Italy and America I stopped in Japan to do a little shopping. After shouting Sun, Ni, Ichi I had a pearl to take home with me and a cool little souvenir. I stopped in to say hello to one of my favourite royal couples in Morocco and then made my way into France.
Now I had spent almost 6 weeks travelling around France last year so it was like coming home for me. I adore France and in particular, I adore its food. So of course I had to stop for an afternoon snack.
After the disappointing desserts in Germany I was still in the mood for something sweet. It was a toss-up between Les Halles Boulangerie and L’Artisan de Glace. The peak afternoon heat made L’Artisan the obvious choice.
There were two families in line in front of me so the wait was pretty short. I couldn’t pass up one of my favourite flavours so salted caramel ice-cream it was ($4.22+ tax for one scoop in a waffle cone or cup).
I thought it was pretty interesting that the CM on the counter warned me about the taste beforehand. She made a point to note that it was a bitter caramel so clearly they have issues with people expecting a sweet caramel and then not enjoying it.
After ordering you move along the line where another CM makes your order. I thought the display with its temporary Mickey was super adorable!

Now on to the ice cream itself. This was a proper French fleur de sel caramel ice-cream where the caramel had been taken quite far along (i.e. bitter and dark). I really enjoyed it but can see why others might be a bit disappointed when they tried it. The texture was really smooth and creamy which is what you want a good ice-cream to be.
I would definitely go back but would probably try another flavour next time as there were so many nice sounding ones on the menu (including Cinnamon, Caramelized Apple & Crumble Crunch and Lemon with Crispy Meringue)
