I didn't give out candy..I gave out ROCKS!

I didn't get the Charlie Brown reference either when I first read the thread, and I didn't think it was funny either but that's just me I guess. I personally went up to each door with my DS6 and if I saw somone put a rock in his bag it would have been handed back and probably not as nicely as it was dropped either.

maybe you could give out benydryl. Aren't you the one that likes to drug kids before a flight to? Just turn out the light next year. We will ALL be better off for it!!!!!

OK - my flame-retardant suit is back on again.

I didn't see the original thread where this comes from. However, depending on the age of the children, the length of the flight and their general temperment, I don't see anything wrong with giving a child Benadryl before a flight so they can dose. It might make for a much more peaceful flight for the parents and the other passengers.

I can't believe this is still going on. Does no one have anything better to do than to sit in judgement? Holy cow!

I won't yell at other parents for doing this, but I personally could never drug my child simply for the purpose of a quiet flight. I'd rather deal with her activity than resort to drugging her. I've flown 7 times with my daughter with the youngest flight when she was 12 weeks old and have always managed just fine drug-free. This includes a 5 hour flight from DC to Las Vegas by myself when she was 7 months. She NEVER sleeps on planes (including flights to Las Vegas and Anaheim from DC) and HATES her carseat (she has had her own seat on every trip), but has cried for a total of about 15 minutes on all 18 flights combined. Like I said, I won't tell others what to do with their own kids, but I personally could never drug her just to have a quiet flight. That's the reason my MIL will never watch my kids overnight-she believes in Benedryl as a sleeping pill for kids too.

Point is her baby is under a yr old and shouldnt be given any meds like that. I have flown many a time with 2 toddlers and no drugs. I did have a crabby 2 yr old one flight but other than that we made it through.

Of course your suposed to check your kids candy, but what if the kid snuck into the bag before he/she got home.

I would think that parents would be out trick or treating with and supervising children young enough to choke on a rock or any other small candy (M&Ms, suckers, skittles....). And if the older kids who are trick or treating without adult supervision are dumb enough to eat a rock then what they really deserve is the Darwin Award.

I also remember the Charlie Brown special. Don't they show that anymore?

I think y'all are really going off the deep end, here. Overreaction city, man.

Hagred, you are my hero. Well said!

I would never want to send a message to my kids that cigarettes were anything other than a deadly habit that eventually kill. To give "fake" cigarettes out as a treat is sending the wrong message, regardless of whether the kids think they are cool, imo.

I agree totally! There will be NOOOOO cigs in this house candy or otherwise! Why not have candy pills, candy syringes, candy guns, candy beer bottles......

FTR I am a psych nurse and giving out rocks is something my patients may have done ...not what a responsible adult would do. I wouldn't call the cops but I would think what a weird-o! Sorry but that is the truth, just turn out your light and give NOTHING. I would have been so ashamed if neighbors knew it was me giving out rocks. I asked my 3 kids and 4 of their friends that were here what they would have thought and they all sat looking at me like "are you for real? somebdoy really gave rocks???" DS's friend then said I would have thrown it back at the house. Mine didn't s y it but I wouldn't have been too surprised if he thought it...I would have too.

Totally OT for this thread but for those who are wondering:

NO I did not have to drug DS. The first flight (DFW to Detroit)was so early in the morning that he ended up sleeping through most of it. On the way home, he was awake but decided looking out the window at all the pretty clouds and sucking on his pacifier was more fun than being crabby.

As for this thread, it's like that song says, 'Stayin alive, ha ha ha ha! Stayin alive stayin alive!":p

You can't keep a good thread down.

Sorry, my computer is acting up .....it's possessed.

I was thinking about this thread the other day! I think the OP is a hoot, she would probably wind up being one of my friends.

did you give out rocks again TOV? I wasn't around then, but I think it was hilarious! :rotfl:

Well, I was one of the ones who thought the idea was not at all funny. (an apparent overreaction on my part, according to some).

And a year later, I find my opinion hasn't changed in the least.
