I didn't give out candy..I gave out ROCKS!

Wasn't there also some poster who asked kids how their parents had voted and then only gave candy to those whose parents had voted the "right" way (I don't remember which way was the "right" way - or even if the poster told us the "right" way).

Oh for goodness sakes! It was a funny thread from waaaaay back when that many people still talk about. I just thought I would bump it for people who haven't seen it before.

Thanks for bumping. I had never seen this one before. Funny, yet sad at the same time. :rotfl:

Remember the one from a couple of years ago were the poster was actually asking the parents who they were voting for and if they weren't voting for her candidate then she wouldn't give heir child any candy? Talk about sick. :sad2:

Looks like we had the same memory at the same time :cheer2:

I know, right. That thread must of left quite the impression on us. :lmao: Wonder if that poster is still around?

As you can see, there are a lot who appreciated the blast from the past. I'm not sure Carly was here then, but this thread really was THE THREAD for the longest time. You know, one of those threads where you keep refreshing because people are posting so quickly and you want to see the responses? :rotfl: Or maybe I'm just easily entertained. :)

OH, this happened to me! I'm not sure if I posted about it, but I'll do a seasrch under my oldscreenname.

Some threads are just classics, like this one, the canned corn, the MIL gift threads. It's all in fun....

I'm another one who is glad you bumped it! This is a great one.

Well, if I posted on this thread, I can't find it. I remember hearing about the canned corn family, but only mentions of it. It was before my time. One of my all-time favorites, and it may have been on the Trip Report board but it was so funny someone linked it to us over here, was the family who were not from the US and they were staying at "The Popular Century" and they told their cab driver something about they weren't really staying there, it was for the maid. And then they asked if their 11 year old could take the toddler to the pool while they were in the parks. OMG. I wish I could find that thread, it was hysterical!!!!:rotfl: I was literally crying while reading their posts.

The response from someone that wasn't around back then is such a sign of how the board has changed.

I can't believe this thread was started 5 years ago! I remember its original posting - how time flies!

But yes, it is, and will always be, a DIS Classic. :thumbsup2

My daughter got a large red lava rock when she ToT in 2nd grade. She still talks about it. It made us laugh. It was definitely a trick.

Stop laughing. No...really. I mean it.

Over the last few years, I had gotten into the habit of pre-writing my checks when I went to Target to avoid spending too much. If the amount of the check was less than 20$ more than the total of hte purchase, they gave you cash back. Well..no more. So..I didn't have any candy for the kids. On the way home from work tonight, I stopped by a park and got a good size handful of smallish rocks. Clean ones..no mud or dirt on them.

So that's what I handed out until DH got home with the candy, by which point most of the trick or treaters had already gone by.

Yes..I really did give out rocks.

TOV

:lmao:I think it's funny! It's like Charlie Brown right? All the kids got candy, but he kept getting a rock?
One year we went to a house and the kids said "trick or treat" when the people opened the door. So the guy inside says "okay, trick" and squirts ketchup into my son's hand which was upturned to receive a piece of candy. Dh and I didn't know whether to laugh or be angry at the guy! Ds was about 8 at the time and did not think it was funny at all!:headache: Now if that had been the son that goes TOTing now, he would have wiped it on the guys shirt, lol!:scared1: One year he got an apple and when he was still within earshot of the giver, he says "an apple?" and threw it on her lawn as we left. He was 3. He's a handful.

I agree. I think one really needed to be here back then and earlier, Bridget, to really know and appreciate what it was like then. It has changed immensely.

I don't remember this thread at all! But I'm glad it was bumped.
Too funny!! I get the humor in it. And I know my kids would laugh if they received a rock ala Charlie Brown. :goodvibes
