I just got the call that my uncle , the one that is like a father to me has pancreatic cancer. It appears to be quite advanced and he is going for surgery this thursday.

I don't think he wants to go on......I hate cancer!!

I, too, hate cancer. I lost my husband to pancreatic cancer in July.

Oh no Kanga, but if he is having surgery, they might have caught it early enough. Some people cannot have the surgery with advanced PC unless they are not doing a Whipple on him and are doing a stent or removing the pancreas itself...

I will keep him in my good thoughts, but if you have any questions, lots of us have been there and maybe can help..

Marsha I spoke to him this morning , he was surprised that I knew about it and he was trying to keep it from me but his son knows what he means to me and decided that I should know and told me.
He sounded in ok spirits when I talked to him today , all I can do is talk to him over the phone since he is in Spain and hope that the treatments there are as advanced as possible to get a better prognosis.
He is going for surgery on thursday and I will get the true prognosis from my cousin ( his son ) who is a doctor.

They took the tumor out today , they also took a piece of spleen , liver , stomach and pancreas with it and according to my cousin ( his son who is a doctor ) they're not sure if chemo is an option for him since it was so advanced. He may have had this for a while before he actually went to the doctor.

I went through this with my Mom. I know that you wish for all the world that it wasn't happening. Again, I am very sorry that you have to see a loved one go through this.

He came through the surgery ok but there's nothing else in the plans for him other than to make him comfortable at this point.

UGH! It kills me to read yet another person was diagnosed with PC. My DH is in treatments for it now and my thoughts and prayers are going out to your family!

He went in for another prosedure a couple of days ago , he had some fluid floating around in his abdomen and they had to take it out with a needle. He also has a fever that they have not been able to break so he remains on ICU.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. And yes it deffinately sucks. My DH and his family have had so much of it. Hate the word and everything it stands for.

Marsha I don't know exactly what it is that they did , it's hard to figure out because my family is totally confused. According to his son ( the doctor ) there's nothing they can do as it's too far advanced , I think he is just going home with paliative care.
My aunt is not a very strong person when it comes to things like this , that doesn't help either and both of them are in the mid 70's ....not a very good age if you know what I mean.
And I can't do anything .....I am overseas.....
