We have a peanut butter jar on our bookshelf; our vacay fund. Every night, we throw our spare change into it, along with the additional dollar bill here and there. We started this about 3 months ago.

I was starring at it last night, wondering how much could be in there. So my bf and I pull it down, sort and count. $74 dollars later we stared at in amazement. Couldn't believe it! Hoping we can save like that over the next year. :woohoo:

I don't spend change. Every night I dump it into a giant plastic Disney Princess teapot. This round started right after Christmas 2011. Two weeks ago I cashed it in and put the $200.00 deposit on our September trip. Change jars or teapots are wonderful things.

Best way to save up is pay with paper money and drop the change in your vacation jar. You'll find that adds up quickly. Have a jar for silver coin and one for pennies. Kids like to decorate their own with stickers for "their" vaca money. ;)

We do that too. I pay for everything (except bills) in cash - helps me stick to a budget. So our change and whatever is left from our weekly budget goes into the jar at the end of the week.

We have already budgeted for a value resort for 2013, so this is my "upgrade to a moderate" fund. :rotfl:

I never use change, I always take it home and save it. It drives my mom crazy when we are out together because she likes to pay with exact change when she has it. So if I am buying something and it comes to $3.21 and I hand the cashier $4.00, my mom is always swooping in saying "Do you need the 21 cents?" and EVERY SINGLE TIME I have to explain that I WANT the change back to throw it in my "fun" savings. :rotfl:

I actually count the change three times a year. The first two deposits of the year go in my "fun account" and the last one is for charity.

I also do not spend my change and save it in a jar...as well as set my weekly budget in cash (aside from bills). It is amazing how quickly it adds up! I also went back to saving my $1 bills.

After our July trip last year, I started our jar again...within a few months I had over $100. I cashed it in and restarted it...and it is still accumulating. I plan to cash it in a few days before our trip this year (after removing some quarters and shiny pennies for pressed pennies for the kids).

Those little pennies add up:banana: I've gotten my fiance used to throwing his change in our bucket and we cash it in about twice a year for vacation and Christmas. Tried doing the $1 but than one ends up taking it as coffee money!

I love doing this! I put mine in a Disney jar I was given about 15 years ago (it's tall and wide, so perfect for change). Ironically, I don't use it for Disney - I always buy something frivolous - usually a new purse every year when the new Vera Bradley patterns come out :).

I have to tell you: Have you heard about the $5 Savings Plan? Here's the rule:

Every single time you get a five dollar bill, NEVER spend it. Put it in a jar and don't touch it again. This really adds up! We started doing this a few weeks ago and already have a few hundred dollars! Right now we're planning on a mini-beach vacation for a couple of days, but as soon as we get home from that, we're going to save for a Disney cruise to Alaska. We won't be able to go for at least two years, so that could really add up.

It should be noted that this can be used from everything from vacations to home renovations - it's really worked well for us!

My dh always pays cash for everything and at the end of the day throws the change in a big bowl. Last year before we took our trip to Vegas he took the change to the bank and it came out to 999.99!! One penny shy of a thousand dollars, we were so amazed!!

I find it funny that I found this thread as I collect change as well. My DH is always having to hide his loonies ($1 coin) and Toonies ($2 coin). I even collect pennies and a lady at work throws hers out. When she found out that I collect them she gave them to me. :cool1: I feel like a bum but if she won't keep them I will. We have over $200 minus the pennies as I haven't counted those yet. That money was to go towards my DH's new computer but I just received a speeding ticket and it's $400 :scared1: :headache: I love putting the change away then wrapping it and taking it to the bank.

AWESOME!! We also have a few places we dump our change. We plan to cash it in before our trip next April. SHould be interesting to see how much we have accumulated.

We started this also. :) My mother and Aunt always give the kids change. Little do they know, they are paying for our spending money at Disney. lol

We do this as well. My husband have a competition to see who can save the most coins. He usually wins because sometimes when he is at the bank he will get a roll of quarters--good saving, but cheating! Anyway, several years it was enough to buy us plane tickets round trip to florida. Since tickets have went up in price we now use that as our spending money in the park. We leave in 6 days so Mon. we are off to cash the coins in. yeah.

We have two piggie banks, too - one for quarters and the other for everything else. My DH always uses cash and puts the change away.

The stash of quarters he calls the College Fund, the rest is the Community College Fund (we have a 2 year old). :lmao:

We do this too! And having toonies and loonies it really adds up quickly.

I have an old coffee can and I covered it with pictures of Disney characters. Every piece of spare change goes in there. Dh knows anything that is left in his pockets when I do laundry is fair game and goes straight to the Disney fund lol!

We're on the coin-keeper bandwagon, too.... :lmao: I think most of us BBer's are! :thumbsup2

My Jar so full the lid will not sit in it right :lmao:, guess it is time to take to the bank. I also use Bank of America's Keep the change program when you swipe your Debit card if the amount is $12.13, the bank put the other 0.87 cents in to your saving account. On average over the last 3 yrs between the bank and my coin I usually have an extra $200-$300 to spend.

We save our change too. But my hubby started this "save as you go" plan at our bank. EVerytime we swipe our debit card they take a dollar out of our checking account and put it into a savings account. We have the savings account "hidden" from our online banking so we wont be tempted to use it. :) I was curious how much we had in there so I called and checked and we have almost 600.00 and we just started in December. I wasnt a hug fan when my hubby came home and told me about it but I am NOW!! :cool1: (although I am still amazed that I have used my debit card that many times)
