I could use a little encouragement

If y'all don't mind I could use a little encouragement from my DIS WISH buddies. Here's my story so you know where I'm coming from:

I started WW in July 2000 and lost 20 pounds to be within 6 pounds of my goal weight. Then, over the course of the last year I have gained all the weight back, plus about 9 pounds.

I feel very discouraged, and I think I feel extra discouraged because I don't like failing. I am just not sure that I have the willpower to do WW successfully again (or any other diet for that matter). I seem to have great difficulty staying on track for more than a week at a time.

On the positive side, I have joined Curves and have been faithfully going for three weeks now. I really enjoy it (and I never thought I would say that about exercise!). But to get the weight off I need to stick to WW too.

I am really trying to turn over a new leaf at WW and put my past behind me to make a fresh start. I really want to be thinner for my wedding in December, which probably seems a long way away to everyone else, but it doesn't seem nearly long enough when I realize how much weight I have to lose and how slowly it's been going for me. I've got 33.4 pounds to lose to my goal, so I could use some encouragement. Thanks! :)

Hiya, Elisabeth! :)

33.4 pounds by December is SOOOOOOOO possible!!!

I think you've done the right thing by joining curves. Exercise is so beneficial in so many ways! Not only will it help you tone up and lose fat, but it will also increase the oxygen flow to all the organs in your body, make your heart healthier (and everything else) and make you feel good!!! :)

You said:

That is SUCH an empowering thing to say! :) And you never thought you'd say it. Give yourself a big pat on the back. That's one hurdle you've already conquered.

Grab yourself by the collar, slap each side of your face really hard (joking) and say to yourself, SNAP OUT OF IT, ME! :) Today is a new day. This moment is a new moment. Make the decision to go for it and you will!

Try not to think of WW as something you are going to do just to lose weight by your wedding date. Think of the changes you are making as a life-long commitment. Once in a while you can splurge and have cheesey fries or a big gooey sundae or a burrito with the works, but for the most part, you'll be really happy planning your healthy meals.

If you don't do anything between now and December, you are guaranteed to not see any changes. But if you start right now, you will surely be thinner by then. 33.4 pounds is a very realistic goal, but even if it's only 15 or 20 that you lose, that is still a fantastic loss!!!!!

I wish you the best of luck. Give yourself lots of encouragement. The past is history. Do your best to make the future as happy and light-hearted and healthy as you can!

Sorry for the long winded message. I might have needed to hear some of this too! ;)

Hi Elisabeth!

Congratulations to you for going back to WW and for joining Curves, that is an excellent starting point.

I think 33.4 is very doable by December. I would however, set short term goals too, goals that are easier to obtain. My short term goal is to lose 10 pounds by Easter, 20 pounds by July and 30 pounds by the end of the year. By setting short term goals you feel better when you reach each station.

You've done WW before so you know that you can do it since you did it before.

I agree with Tig on the above, the main reason is diets help you lose the weight, but once you stop dieting the weight returns. If you approach this as changing the way you eat for life you will have better success.

Last but not least, you are not alone, we are all here doing the same thing and we are here to encourage every step of the way.

Good for you for going back to weight watchers. If that eating plan works best for you then you should have no problem losing that weight before your wedding.

I'm so proud of you for going to Curves regularly too, what an accomplishment that is!

Just take your weight loss plan one day at a time. You didn't fail, you just stumbled a little.

You can do this, I know you can! Hang in there sweetie. Come visit WISH everyday and together we will all meet our goals :)
