I Could Have Had a Cruise. Instead, I'm Going to WDW! May 2010 PTR - ONE MORE DAY!!!

This is a completely off topic post but I had to share this with y’all. At the beginning of last week, I realized that I needed to start the process of getting Lauren into a preschool for next year. So I did the most logical thing and I emailed the preschool that Alex went to last year. They had registration the week before but since the previous year I had called in April and gotten Alex in, I figured it wouldn’t be a problem getting Lauren in. WRONG!!! They were already filled up. So I then started to panic. I got on Facebook and asked friends for their opinions on preschools in our area.

There was one that I really liked and one of my friends informed me that they were registering for non-church members on Friday (this was on Thursday). I found out that registration started at 8:30 am and I asked my friend what time she was planning on getting to the preschool. She told me her husband would be at the school by 6:00 am. WHAT???!!! Seriously? Yup. She also told me that there were only 17 spots left in the 4 year old class!

Well, I figured if there was going to be at least one person in line, then there would probably be more. Guess what time I set my alarm for? 4:10 am.:scared1: That’s about the time I set my clock to go shopping on Black Friday. I figured if I could wake up that early to go shopping, I could do it to get my darling daughter into preschool. So I got there about 5:45 am but didn’t go up to the door till a little after 6:00. There were 5 people in front of me (one of them was my friend's husband). The woman right in front of me was the youth pastor’s wife and we talked pretty much the whole time. She told me that the woman in charge of the preschool had told her to arrive very early in the morning to make sure she got her child a spot.

After about 5 minutes standing outside, a nice person let us into the building and we walked down a hall to where they would be holding registration. We all sat/stood there from about 6:15 to 8:30. I had actually forgotten the checkbook so Mike had to bring it to me before he went into work. While he went to work, Mike’s mom watched Lauren.

As we sat there, many of us started talking and came to find out that 2 of the five people in front of me were there to register their 3 year olds. When it got closer to the time for registration, a woman brought out a poster board that showed what classes were available and which ones were full. The 3 year old class only had 3 openings. That means that only one person behind us would be able to get their child into the 3 year old class. Can you imagine standing in a line that long and being told that you missed making the 3 year old class by 1 person!!??

Anyway, that’s what I did last Friday. And one day, when Lauren is older, I will make sure she never forgets what I did to get her into preschool!

Up Next: “I Am Not Riding Everest!!” -Day 5

Wow! You're a real trooper Alicia-I only set my alarm that early when I'm headed to WDW or a Black Friday sale:lmao:. Glad you got her in though! That's crazy that you had to be there before 6:00am. :scared1: Sounds like it was the right thing to do. Must be a pretty popular and good school.

Wow! I have 3 kids and have never heard of such a thing when it comes to signing your kids up for preschool. Yikes. But what a good Mom you are! Loved your Fontierland night!! I have said this a million times, but maybe next week I will get to Disney nights. Nice job!

Thanks Leanne! We had a great time. We went to Carrabas and then went to Lowe's and Best Buy without children. We always like to go to stores when we go on a date and casually walk through them. We usually go to a book store but we thought we'd be crazy and go somewhere different. :lmao:

You guys sound like us. Wild and crazy couples out on the town!:lmao:

Monday will be early entry for AK. No doubt Mike will wake us all up and inspire us to move quickly so we’re ready to head out the door to make opening. Last year, we got ready at a decent speed and drove over to the park. We always add time in for parking, riding the tram, etc. But last year, we pulled up to the parking booths outside the park and a cast member motioned for us to come to his booth. Okay. So we obeyed and he asked us what our last name was. We told him and he gave us a piece of paper with our name on it. He then instructed us to follow the blue line that was painted on the ground and it would lead us to special parking at the very front of the park!! He then said “Have a magical day!” We were shocked! Happy, but shocked! So we giddily (is that a word?) followed the blue line and sure enough, we got to park right outside the entrance. I had never even noticed that there was parking there before. Anyway, when we pulled up we realized that there were only 6 parking spaces and 5 of them were already filled. So we were the last people granted up front parking! I was so happy I even recorded me doing a dance on our video camera. Since we didn’t have to ride the tram, we ended up being pretty early for opening. Oh well!

No doubt this will not happen again so we’ll be sure to incorporate time to park, catch the tram, etc. So after they let us in the park, Mike is going to walk very, very fast to Everest to grab fastpasses while Mom, the kids and I walk towards Safari. We didn’t ride this last time but Alex has been begging to ride this. We’ll wait for Mike to show up and then we’ll get in line.

After we ride Safari, we’ll head towards Everest. Now here’s the big question: Can we convince Alex to ride Everest? Probably not since he’s the one that declares “I am not riding Everest!!” every time we ask him. I know Mike, Mom and I are interested in riding it so we’ll definitely be baby swapping this ride.

We’ll then head over to Dinosaur. I honestly don’t like this ride. I’ve tried it 4 times now and I just don’t enjoy it. Last year was Alex’s first time riding it. He got off and said “I am not ever riding that again!!” I tried to tell him it was scary but he wouldn’t listen! So imagine my surprise when he started saying that on this trip, he wants to ride it again. I told Mike that he can ride it with Alex and the rest of us will find something else to do.

After Dinosaur, we’ll go on Triceratop Spin. We all really liked this ride last trip. I wouldn’t be surprised if we ended up riding it a couple of times. Last trip I filmed it and got dizzy because I was watching it through the screen on the video camera. I don’t think I’ll do that again this trip.

I think after that we’ll make our way over to the Boneyard. Both kids loved this last time. We spent quite a bit of time in there. I took a ton of pictures in there too. Here’s some:

The last must do we have at AK is Bug’s Life show. The kids have never seen it so I think they’ll be excited to see this. I think the last time I saw it was on our honeymoon.

We’ll also be sure to go on the trails and see the birds and tigers. I don’t know if we’ll get around to it but we are also interested in going to the Conservation Station. We’ve never seen it. Any comments on it?

And of course at some point we’ll stop for lunch. I’m really thinking I want to eat at the Yak and Yeti CS. It looks so good! After lunch, we’ll head back to the resort for some rest and relaxation. I’m really hoping it doesn’t rain so much this trip. We hardly got to enjoy the CBR pool last May with all that rain. I really would like to spend a good amount of time at Stormalong Bay.

On this particular evening we’re going to spice things up a bit! The kids and Mom will be on their own. I figured they could get room service or order a pizza. It’s completely up to Mom. While the kiddos are having a fun time with Nana, Mike and I will be having a dinner alone (yippee!) and then we’ll head to DHS. I’ll devote a whole post about our anniversary celebration night.

You're starting you day at AK exactly how we do it. Joe makes the fast walk to Everest while I take the girls to KS. :thumbsup2 We enjoy Conservation Station. Last year a CM had a snake out and the girls got to touch/feel it. She was telling them all about it. The girls thought that was really cool. They also like brushing the goats and looking at the babies in the station. It's a great place to meet Pocahontas and Jiminy Cricket if the kids enjoy those characters also. On a hot day the train ride is just what the doctor ordered for wore out parents too. :goodvibes

Have a great weekend Alicia! Can't wait to hear about your anniversary celebration. :goodvibes

I don't normally get up that earyl either, Leanne. I never would hav imagined having to do that to get her in but it is pretty popular and it's less than 5 minutes from our house. We pass it multiple times a week and she says "There's my school!"

That's some serious competition for preschool. However, I'm glad she got her spot.

It's crazy, Megan! I still can't believe I wasn't the only one sitting there for that long. I'm really glad she got in too. I've heard nothing but good things about the school.

Thanks! I plan on reminding Lauren what a great parent I am when she becomes a teenager. ;) I almost have to do the Disney nights now. They expect them since we're about to have night #5. I spend a little bit each day doing something for the upcoming Disney night. Can't wait to post pictures of our one we're having tonight!

You guys sound like us. Wild and crazy couples out on the town!:lmao:

You know what's funny Lisa? I have never been accused of being wild. Now crazy...:rolleyes1 I get accused of that daily. I don't understand why though.:lmao:

I'm so glad to know that other couples do what we do on their dates! I thought we were strange. When Mike and I go to the bookstore together we look at Disney books. Makes me happy thinking about it!

Thanks Leanne! I think the kids might enjoy it so if we see that we have time we'll check it out.

Have a good weekend too! I think we finally figured out what we're doing for our anniversary that night. Can't wait to share it. It makes me chuckle everytime I think about it.

Congrats on getting Lauren in the preschool you wanted. The private school near me is the same way with openings.

You AK day sounds really nice. I, like Alex, have made the life long declaration to NEVER RIDE EVEREST. I am terrified of heights so that will keep me off of it. Dallas is my little twin in that area, he hates heights. Poor Dale will have to ride it alone or maybe tag along with someone we meet up with. We had never done Conservation Station until last September, and it was great. We will be doing it again this trip. I learned all kinds of need stuff about a porcupine...............:lmao:

If it helps at all, I just added our Conservation Station/Rafiki's Planet Watch experience and pictures to our TR. We weren't crazy about it, but I would imagine young children would get a lot more out of it than two adults.

Sounds like a good AK day you have planned. Looking forward to hearing about your anniversary plans!

LOVE the Frontierland-themed dinner!!! Sooo cute!! Can''t wait to hear about this pirate-themed one!! And WOW you were up early to get Lauren into a Preschool! I'm sooo glad it worked out and that you got her in!! :goodvibes

Arrr me ‘earties! We had a pirate night! pirate:

This week it was Mom’s turn to pick our Disney night. Kind of fitting since Thursday was her birthday. I have to admit I was really happy when Mom picked this because I really wanted to plan a pirate night. Arrr! It was fun me ‘earties!

So we started the night off with our bountiful feast which included:

Pirate Pizza Ships
Skewered Fruit
Seaweed Salad (really Caesar salad)
Pirate Ale (apple juice)
Blue Lagoon Dessert (blue jello with gummy fish)

It was a delicious meal. Then we had a treasure hunt! I drew a map of our house and yard and had Alex and Lauren used the map to find the hidden treasure. We hid some chocolate coins in the backyard.

After that, we watched Peter Pan and ate tons of popcorn.

Here’s some pics:

How cute :thumbsup2. You are so creative. I would love to have one of those fruit skewers right about now......yummmmmmmmmmm

It looks great! We have our first theme night date set - April 23rd. We're going to do 4 of them - one a week leading up to the trip.

Congrats on the school, since C is going to the same place again next year I got priority reg-no lines. My friend's Hubby camped at the church OVERNIGHT one year. Um, no school is worth that IMO.
Very cute Disney night!!!

Thanks for the link to the pictures! We'll probably put it on the list as an "if we have time" sort of thing.

Hee, hee!! I loved the Blue Lagoon dessert!! How did you get the fish in there like that??

What a blast -- I wonder if 13 year olds would enjoy a treasure hunt?? :rolleyes1 I'm just thinking I might have to throw something like this together when her friend spends the night sometime!
