I am trying to check in for our flight tomorrow morning and Southwest won't let me check in. SO I called the 800# and the person just told my the what the website says. He would not even check my reservation for me. I am starting to get stressed.

ntburns22,
What is the error message you are receiving? I have found that sometimes I use the wrong name when checking in on-line (ie the confirmation is under DH's name and I put my name in or vice-versa)... Another mistake I have made is sometimes I make a typo on the confirmation (It generally has letters and numbers in it)...

The request to check in online and print a Boarding Pass cannot be processed due to Southwest Airlines procedures, requirements or fare rules.

This is what comes up when I try to check in. I do have my confirmation number and the ressie is in my name. Now do I need anything besides an ID to check in at the gate? I have not flown since 1999. If my sister (FA) only knew I was asking these questions.LOL

Maybe your trying to check-in too soon? What time is your flight tommorrow?
They are a stickler for 24 hours ahead of time or less. I would re-try your request again.

ntburns22,
You will need to obtain your boarding pass prior to getting to the gate.

I'm wondering if you received that error code because you have a special children's fare of some sort? I would also want to check in at the 24 hour point, too, but if it helps any--you should be able to pre-board since you have a 2 yr old...

If you have a special youth or infant fare you should have a copy of your child's birth certificate or other proof of age.

You have likely been chosen for secondary security screening. When you have been selected you cannot print your BP online, but rather, you have to pick it up at the airport.

Yep, you've been "chosen". They will not tell you that in advance. It's not SW but the security people, TSA.

I just talked to my sister and she said the exact same thing. Atleast DS is 2 so we can hopefully preboard.

I am going to bet that you are going to have a SSS code on your boarding pass and that you have been selected for additional screening. Get to the airport EARLY! This happened to me in June and I was very happy I got to MCO in PLENTY of time for the "super security screening!"

The exact same thing happened to us in April. One of us was "flagged". We couldnt print boarding passes, and the skycap wouldnt take our luggage. He told us, once he scanned our tickets, we had to go inside. The wierd thing is, they did not do any extra security on any of us. Just so you realize, your hotel will most likely not be able to print your passes for you for your return trip. When we went to make our return trip home, the SW person said one of us had been flagged, but AGAIN, there was NO extra security. We fly Delta in three weeks. I am curious to see if we have any problems. Someone mentioned it could be because we made a change to our flight 2 weeks before we were due to leave, and that sends up a "flag".

Well I am back home:( As it turns out my DS2 name is on the Do Not Fly List. So it looks like we may have this problem every so often, But it is worth our safety.

Have you thought about making separate reservations? You could make one for you and your son, knowing that you will not be able to get pre-boarding passes. but then if you get a separate reservation for DH and other siblings then they could get their pre-board tickets and save 2 seats for you just in case. Last time we flew we all had our own confirmation number and only my 16 DD could not get a pre-boarding ticket but the rest of us did. It worked out just fine.

I am sure that was interesting, I hope they treated him kindly if they did extra searching. I saw a little girl at MCO being screened and they were using a cute little zebra chair and hand puppets.

If your son has a middle name try using his full name and he may not be flagged next time. I assume you were able to pre board with a 2yo?

Otherwise, either fly another airline with preassigned seating or book your party separately as another poster suggested.

Both times we have flown with my three year old twins we have been flagged for "extra" security. It's really quite a site to see a three year old being "patted down". Just what you need in the airport, trying to get their shoes on and off and hold still while they run the wand over them. Makes you wonder what exactly they are profiling on for these selections.

Well I have met a few 3 y/o's that would qualify as terrorists in anyones book!!! Maybe that's why!! LOL

You gotta wonder don't you....our last flight the 2 people singled out for extra scruitiny were a woman that looked to be 8 months pregnant with a toddler in tow and some elderly woman in a W/C that was so frail she could not have made it down the plane aisle if she had had an AK-47 in her carry on!!

Not exactly the terrorist profile!!

SW was great with the kids. After they told us he was on the DO not fly list they just asked for his birthday. My DD got upset thinking that her little brother was not going to be able to go. The agent went to the back and brought the kids disposable cameras, inflatable SW airplanes, coloring books, can cozys, playing cards, stress balls, and their wings. The service we recieved from them was great. We did get to preboard with the kids. We also had the carseat for DS also.

One tip the curbside checkin guy in St. Louis told us: One trip when he tried to enter our reservations as a group we were flagged for extra security. The guy said he would try to do them individually and they went through without being flagged. I'm not sure what difference it made.

Gotta remember, it was a year or a year and a half ago security at Orlando International found a loaded revolver inside a toddlers stuffed animal.
