This was our date night - DH and I don't really get a lot of opportunity to go out together without DS at home so we love to have our date nights. And DS in in love with the Kids' Clubs at WDW so every once in a while, he would just as soon be there than with us. So where do we go for Date Night?
Le Cellier!
This is a favorite...!
We were seated in the frontish of the restaurant at a table for four, between a family of four and a couple. It was nice having the large table so we could have some distance between us and the others for conversation purposes. I do love this restaurant, but if I had a complaint it would be that the tables are too scootched together.
Our server was very nice and explained the
DDP options for beverages - pretty much anything non alcoholic on the menu, including the smoothies and shakes. I decided I was on vacation and therefore I would have a chocolate shake as my drink. DH agreed and we both ordered them, with waters on the side.
I am ashamed to admit I forgot to snap a photo...but they were very nice chocolate ice cream shakes topped with whipped cream and a cherry. We felt very decadent.
We received our breadsticks and butter and the breadsticks were hot and fresh from the oven. As most people on the DIS, we loved the pretzel bread the best, although we tasted all of them. (Pretzel bread, sourdough, and multi grain).
For starters, DH and I both ordered the Shrimp Cocktail with Wasabi Slaw (you can see the chocolate shake sortof in this photo):
I am almost embarassed to tell you all this, but I counted my shrimp. Fourteen. I knew someone out there would be interested...
This is such a wonderful appetizer - the shrimp are chilled - ice cold but not frozen. They are tossed in a chili sauce and then laid on top of wasabi slaw. The whole combination is just amazing - very flavorful and fresh. Not too horribly spicy (although I like spicy) but with a good kick. In the "clears the nostrils" scale I'd give it a 6. It won't make you sneeze, but you'll be breathing a bit clearer when you're finished.
(Okay, does that analogy make any sense to anyone???)
I ate several of my shrimp alone and then some of the slaw alone and then i mixed the whole thing up and ate it all together. Heaven!!
These used to be served up in really cute chinese takeout boxes, which didn't really make sense to me in Canada, but I can say the taste and portions are just the same, if not bigger.
For his entree, DH ordered the Mushroom Filet (Baby Bella wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce, topped with fried parsnips):
I had suggested he get this since he loves filets and people rave about this on the DIS. I know DH likes mushrooms, so I thought he'd enjoy it. He agreed to order it if I would try it. I agreed to try it if I didn't have to eat an actual mushroom.
He liked it - felt the filet itself was excellent - but decided he didn't like mushrooms THIS much. I tried a bite that had the shroom flavor

but no shrooms. Again, I felt the filet was wonderful, but didn't care for the mushroom taste.
So fortunately, I went back to eating THIS:
This was my New York Strip - as described on all ears: with sauteed leeks, frisee, and roasted Yukon gold potatoes, and finished with veal demi glace. This was wonderful! It was definitely on par with the NY Strip from Coral Reef - which considering this was a steakhouse, was a good thing. We had both ordered our steaks medium rare again and they were perfect: flavorful with a warm reddish center. No raw on it, just tender good steak.
I shared my potatoes with DH since he wasn't thrilled with his risotto - they were very good.
I'd like to add here that I am a saltaholic and I love to douse my steaks with salt and horseradish sauce. But the steaks at WDW needed nothing. The demi glaces are a great complement - truly a sauce that tastes like nothing but steak. A good enhancement. And enough salt that I didn't need to add anymore. You can probably see in the photos that I had requested salt and pepper. The young man who brought it to me told me "you probably will want to taste your steak first before salting it". I thought it was funny because if I had a dollar for everytime my dad told me that in my life, I'd be financing a trip to WDW! But I took him at his word and he was right!
Dessert time rolled around and Dh broke down and ordered a coke. He couldn't stand drinking any more water (he doesn't like water

) and asked for a sugar soda. I debated ordering an Inniskillin Ice Wine but decided I would wait for another opportunity (which I did, later in the trip).
For dessert, we perused the menu:
I knew I wanted to try the creme brulee duos, but we had another ADR at Le Cellier for later in the trip. I opted instead for the chocolate whiskey cake:
As you can see on the menu, this came with a tarragon anglaise. Our server explained it as "sort of a vanilla sauce with a light licorice flavor" Very apt. I don't really like black licorice, but I did like this, very much.
DH usually loves the sorbets, but he also loves cherries so he decided to order the cherry shortcake. The cake was very good - but the ice cream was very strange. I've never eaten lavender. But this ice cream tasted like lavender. Strange, but not bad at all. A very interesting combination
Overall, this was an excellent dinner for me and a good dinner for DH. He did tell me that if you love mushrooms, you would absolutely love the filet. (Actually, he didn't use the phrase "absolutely love" but he did agree with me when I said it

)
We left to go back to our date time before picking up DS, pleased that we would be able to enjoy Le Cellier again on this trip.
