I Can't Believe We Ate the Whole Thing! 15 Nights of DDP with photos...!

Joh I call them just shortbread too :rotfl2: SLk if you ever come to England the shop Marks and Spencers sells gorgeous shortbread it just melts in the mouth and I do love the half chocolate dipped shortbread :cloud9:

Now I will have to fit in some fish and chips while there this trip. Had them before and loved them.

:lmao: Thank you for the shortbread discussion. It brought back memories of my "oh-so-proper" British Grandma. We were always corrected when we said shortbread cookies. No, she'd say, they are called shortbread. You only had to be told once.:rotfl:

I miss her.

What a great review!!! I have the Coral Reef on our list for our next trip. I also love Boma, more so than the rest of my family.

I may have missed this, when did you go? Just wondering what month it was and how the crowds were. We are trying to pick a date for our next trip.

Looking forward to more!

May 1-16 this year. We've been home almost a week now and I am in serious withdrawal. Thank God for the DIS!

This was the fourth year we have gone in May and have been there for Mother's Day. The crowds are relatively light this time of year because it is after Spring Break and before Memorial Day - not a good time for people to take vacation and pull kids out of school because it is so close to the end of year. This makes it a great time to go, crowd wise. There were long lines for some rides, but most were 5-20 minutes. The longest we had to wait for a table for an ADR was maybe 15 minutes? Usually we barely sat down before the pager went off.

Weather is consistent - low 80's to high 80's and medium humidity (compared to a trip we took in late September where I felt like we were swimming through the air ;) ). It doesn't rain a lot and it's not yet Hurricane Season. We fell into May our first trip and really enjoyed it, so that's why we keep going back. Plus the Mother's Day Brunch at Epcot is divine!!

The other time I love is the first few weeks after Thanksgiving. Perfect weather, low crowds and Christmas decorations! :thumbsup2

Good luck with your dates!

Breakfast on the 3rd was a healthy combination of powdered sugar and plastic chocolate Entemann's Doughnuts...you know the kind I'm talking about? We used 2 snack credits to get a box of the powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar and plain doughnuts and then a box of chocolate lovers doughnuts. My question for that? What kind of chocolate lovers like those plasticky chocolate doughnuts?

My boys, that who. They love them..

:rotfl: That's so funny! I love these too. And yes, I'm a bona fide chocolate freak :hyper: I truly love dark chocolate (w/ the richest most chocolate taste you can get) but something about those plastic choco donuts and the twinkies or the swiss cake rolls w/ the chocolate peeling (you know how you can peel the chocolate right off?) makes me happy:teeth:

After a lovely dinner at Spoodles, we wandered the Boardwalk and picked up some treats. DS loves those sour powder candy tubes they have everywhere and he picked one out at Seashore Sweets. He and DH had a blast filling up the tube with lots of colors and flavors. And then of course he had to try it outside:

And discovered it was sour :rotfl: :

Before heading back to the Beach Club Villas, we popped into Boardwalk Bakery to see what was there. We had asked about CS credits previously when DH and I had had breakfast at Spoodles and were told a CS credit was 2 drinks and one item. That was breakfast though - apparently the rest of the day it's a sandwich/salad, chips, drink and dessert.

On this night, we only wanted snacks. DS chose a cupcake:

They had to pack it sideways, so it's smushed. I love frosting. My favorite dessert of all time is grocery store birthday cake. Second to that? Any other kind of cake and frosting. DS follows in my Croc Niles footsteps. He will eat all the frosting and is starting to eat the cake as well. I tried a smidgen of the frosting -it was VILE!!! It tasted like whipped butter flavored Crisco. GICK!!

I should point out that DS loved it.

DH chose a cheesecake brownie for me:

(Sorry - a little blurry!)

The brownie was very good - fudgy and chocolatey and not dry at all. The cheesecake layer was also very good, although I would have preferred cream cheese frosting. The whipped cream on the top of the cheesecake was excellent. It was fresh whipped cream - yum! I gave the red and white chocolate to DS.

Dh chose the Banana Split Cake:

I have no idea how to describe this, so I'll just try...

The top layer is fresh whipped cream. The whipped cream has a little chocolate drizzle on it and candied pecans. Under this layer of whipped cream is a layer of banana type cake. Under this? Cheesecake. It wasn't as rich as it sounds - the cheesecake wasn't dense but light. Same with the cake. We both loved this and it makes a reappearance later in our trip...

That's EXACTLY what I meant!!! :rotfl: Peel the chocolate plastic layer right off the doughnut! This is the perfect treat for DH and DS when I'm watching my sugar. This and tootsie rolls. They love 'em, I hate 'em!

I compare it to my love of highly processed, chock full of preservatives grocery store birthday cake. No reason WHY to love it, just do!

OMG YES grocery store b-day cake is the best!!! I prefer it to all other cakes. I'll be planning my wedding soon and I tell my mother everyday that the cake has to be from Publix (here in Fl and GA too) or I will not eat it. She thinks I'm joking but I'm soooooo serious. She can do whatever she wants to the outside (fondant, flowers etc...) but the cake and frosting need to be publix!:rotfl:

BJ's has a pretty good cake too. It runs a close second to Publix cake.

I'm just glad I'm not the only one who loves grocery store cakes!!!

Gotta love those Boardwalk Bakery treats. My favourite was the chocolate danish :thumbsup2 But that cheesecake brownie looks pretty good too. Might have to have BOTH next trip :rotfl2:

Now that is laugh out loud funny!!! I have a DS6 and have seen that look on his face many times right before he says "It's good! Try it!" Not on your life, buddy! Anywho...save that picture for his rehearsal dinner. ;)

RE: grocery store birthday cakes.....tastes like a Twinkie. I guess that's the appeal for me.

Still lovin' the report. Keep on writing......

thanks for the great report! You have added a new "must have" to my list on our next trip. That Strawberry swirl looks fantastic! :thumbsup2 I'm normally a chocolate fiend, but when it's hot out I go for the fruity things. I'll have to alternate the strawberry swirl with Dole floats  for a perfect day.

Mmm hmm. Sometimes I don't even eat the actual cake part. Just give me the chocolate plastic :lmao:

Mmmmm. Publix cakes  Do you get the layer of pudding in the middle too? I LOVE it! We do these for our boys' birthdays unless we have to make them - like when they HAVE to have a Star Wars cake with Obi Wan Kenobi instead of :darth:

slk537, Great Review, and the PHOTOS! WOW! YUM! I can almost taste them.
One idea might be to add an index to your first post so we can go right to your post of each place you ate. Just an idea. Again Big Thank you for the Reviews so far looking to see (taste) the rest.

I am so glad that today is cake and ice cream day at work because you're killing me with these desserts.

Yes, we have cake and ice cream at work. The last Monday of every month to celebrate the birthdays for that month. And after catching up and drooling over those dessert menus, I need it.

Mmmm, pudding layer?? I need to ask for that. At my local Publix they have a chocolate fudge filling that is incredible!!! When I order cakes I usually get buttercream on the inside and the fudge on the outside with the marble cake. It's so good!! And my publix sells the cake by the slice, it's rare when it happens but it happens. When it does I'm buying every piece I can. :yay: :woohoo:

You will love it! It's like a strawberry creamsicle on steroids! I love fruity things in hot weather too and this was just perfect. And the best part? Aloha Isle - Dole Whips is on one side of the park in Adventureland and Enchanted Grove is all the way over near Tomorrowland so you have plenty of time to eat both :thumbsup2

I am so happy to have company in my love of generic bakery cakes! Our wedding cake was also from a local grocery store - fortunately it was as beautiful as delicious. DH's Groom's Cake was "imported" from Chicago - his cousin worked at Portillo's and made about 7 of their chocolate cakes for him. Homemade chocolately delicious heaven. And I still liked my grocery store buttercream the best...

We do birthday cakes every month at work too. I'm in charge of Employee Recognition so I have to make sure it gets ordered. Shockingly...it always comes from the grocery store down the street..:rotfl:

Our cakes come from Mike's Pastry in the North End of Boston. That place is famous for their pastry. The cannoli are the best. The cakes aren't bad, but I don't love regular frosting. Someone did order a cake from them a couple weeks ago for a baby shower and it has the whipped cream frosting. It was the best frosting I've ever had.
