I Can't Believe This Happened!!

We are supposed to leave early next Saturday, 4/13, drive from Atlanta to the Radisson, relax and then board the Wonder early on 4/14.

So what does DH do? He entered a contest run by a local sportstalk radio statio. They announced his name yesterday and he has won one of 68 keys to try to start a new 2002 GMC Yukon (approximate value $35K) plus lots of other goodies.

Guess when the promo is scheduled to take place--next Saturday afternoon. They haven't told him the exact time yet.

So now I am trying to come up with a contigency plan. I guess we will pack the car and plan to leave from the promo. (At least we are travelling in the right direction--we're north of Atlanta and the promo dealership is just south of Atlanta so we'll be an hour into our journey already.)

We do have friends in south Georgia where we can spend the nite if we get a really late start.

So much for the best-laid plans. . .

Wouldn't it be cool if he wins? Then you can drive to the port in your brand new GMC Yukon! I have a good feeling about this for you. Talk about a magical start to your vacation!

Just be glad that you didn't have plane tickets I guess.

I won a radio contest in the past very similar. I won $100 in cash and a chance to win a brand new, fully loaded Chevrolet Blazer. I was one of 30 chosen to pull keys from a bowl and see if it worked! It was exciting, nerve racking, and fun. I was about number 21, and I cringed everytime someone else tried their key before me.

I didn't end up winning, but probably the most needy person did. An elderly spouse whose husband was recently laid-off and had a old, unreliable, junker.

Things work out for the best sometimes! Good Luck to you in making everything work! I hope you win!

I had a similar radio-contest experience. Star-94 (I'm also in Atlanta) gave away 94 keys that might open a new Mazda Miata (this was years ago... when the Miata was still a new model). I didn't win, but what an interesting, nerve-wracking experience that was. Good luck to your husband, and good luck on the drive down afterwards.

A few years back, my dad entered all of us in a contest to win a chance to use a Pontiac minivan for a year. As luck would have it, my BIL was one of the 10 finalists. Each person stuck their hand it a bucket of keys and picked one out to try. My BIL felt around for the key that was the smoothest (presumably cut at the factory) and that's the one he took. And it turned out to be the key that unlocked the van. Imagine that. So good luck on Saturday. And if you get to pick your own key, go for the smooth one.

DH found out today that he has to be at the dealership at noon on Saturday where they will draw to determine the order to pick keys and try them. That will begin at 1 and should take about 1 hour, so we should be on the road by 2:30 (hopefully with plans to pick up the new Yukon on the way home-LOL)!

At least the dearship is an hour in the right direction we need to be driving!!

OK-so I should be finishing the packing--but here I sit still surfin' for last minute info.

Oh yeah--My sister and BIL decided Tuesday p.m. that maybe they would just tagalong. So that evening I researched for them and off to the TA on Wednesday a.m. Booked them an inside cabin Cat. 11. Just about all that was left.

They decided that what better way to go - they would almost have a personal guide in me since I have already done all our planning! LOL!! I say the more the merrier!!

Anyway better get going! We'll post from the ship I'm sure.

Wow! I'd love to have that kind of flexibility to be that spontaneous! Sounds like fun!
