I can't Believe 3 people have bid on this

I truly feel bad for the bidders on this auction, however, to make things fair, the seller may not know about the disboards either and therefore are really trying to help out another DCL cruiser.

Before I found out about the DIS, I was lost in the dark and know there is light (thanks to all of you fellow DISers).

Try to put it in perspective from both points of view.

I think I have just about every document they listed posted on my trip site with the exceptions of the Oceaneer Navigators and the excursion booklet.

Maybe I should charge admission to my site? :)

I just completed a cruise scrapbook of the 4 cruises my Hubby and I have been on. 3 of them Disney. According to what they are bidding on, and the price, I threw away a small fortune. I had about 3 of everything:rolleyes: Oh well, I guess you can sell any thing and people will buy it. I also saw the Disney lugguage tags for sell on Ebay. The paper ones you put on the night before you dissembark...

I think this person knows that the information is available for free on-line. He made the auction private, so that noone will try to contact the bidders.

Are you able to put a comment on his auction site that says this stuff is available free and he's ripping people off? I don't go to E-bay, so not sure how that works.

It seems such a shame to con people with Disney stuff of all things!!

I agree with dancid. Why else would this person have a private auction. I feel like emailing him and telling him what he is doing is wrong!! This just makes me so

Of course, there IS the possibility that this person may be a (not too savvy) DISer and got much of the info from these boards, but we would HOPE not! He refers to the info as if it would still be the same when or if the winning bidder might decide to cruise DCL. Personal Navigators and other info are helpful and give you an idea of what the cruise is like, but they don't stay the same for all cruises. At least the bidding was very low. Delivering the "goods" will probably cost the guy more than he'll get.

Taswira,

Thank you so much for posting the picture of the laynard!! I just think the DIS is sooo great!!!

You are right about this guys auctions!! I wonder if you can get busted for scalping tickets on the net? Did you notice how one of his auctions was public, yet the one for the DCL was private? Makes me think he knows about this place!!

:D

Just to add not defend in any way. I guess if I had never been on a Disney cruise and were planning one, I might would want the stuff from the cruise that the saler had on E-bay for sale. I research my trips and look at every thing I can find about the cruise or destination I am going to. So $15.00 or so dollars wouldn't be such a bad deal for someone wanting to review actual items and papers of a cruise they have never been on. I think we are all just lucky we found this board and have so many wonderful people such as DAVE-FROM MARIETTA, and Barb to name a few who are willing to share their experience and expertise for free. That is why I love this site and enjoy planning and reading about cruises on this board. I love looking at cruise picture's from other Disers who are wanting to share their vacation as well as posting my own picture's from my cruise for others to look at. So maybe the e-bay saler is not looking to scam anyone, he just see's an opportunity to make a buck....

This one didn't bother me NEARLY as much as the selling the DCL promotional video earlier. Although, you'd think if someone was ebay proficient then they likely had searched the internet for DCL information.

That whole ebay thing creeps me out. I swear if I auctioned the contents of my kitchen garbage can, someone would buy it. I just don't get it......

My husband and I make a living from selling on the internet and understand how Ebay works, etc. In all fairness, they do have the right to auction the items ....no one has to bid on them! I don't agree w/ what they're auctioning but they are not breaking any laws. As for the public vs private items listed ...it is the buyer who wants the item private NOT the seller...for whatever reason. They have good feedback so it may just be an innocent auction and they feel they are giving out valuable and helpful info...The guy doesn't have to charge shipping though, he can just FAX it to the winner!

I have never bid on anything from E Bay so I may be wrong, but when I clicked on private auction, it said, Use this auction to protect a bidders privacy, so it seems the seller can select that option.

Jim...I have what your missing, want to go 50/50 LOL
We'll plan our next fortune on the 5/17 sailing.

I'm not sure if it's 'legal' with Ebay, but you always could start an auction advertising this site. You could title it 'ANYTHING YOU COULD EVER WANT TO KNOW ABOUT DISNEY CRUISES'. Then in description, you could simply tell them to NOT bid, that you are not SELLING this information, but instead am offering a FREE link to all interested and they should email you for the link to a great site. Providing people do not bid, and follow your terms, your Ebay fee's would be minimal. It certainly would make some of those people making a buck off free info. think a bit.

Actually, they are breaking laws because the Navigators are copyrighted and they are selling photocopies of copyrighted material...definitely not lawful. And with as old as those Navs are, they would be virtually useless.
Every time I see something like this, I realize that hubby and I should be paying for our Disney cruises by scamming people instead of providing free information.

Barb, You, Hubby and Dave could probably pay for your cruises with your info, but it must not be in you to scam people, and the enjoyment of it all wouldn't be there.

Just the appreciation you get from all us DISers is your reward.

Thanks for all your free info

That is quite true. And sometimes people can't believe that's enough of a motive. Back in February, my family and I were in Orlando to visit the Mouse. I took an afternoon to drive out to the Space Coast to refine some of the info I have on my site. In particular I wanted to see the Indian River House (www.indianriverhouse.com). This is a nice B&B overlooking the Indian River (Intracoastal Waterway) that I learned about from another DISer. I wanted to see it before listing it on my site. I introduced myself to the innkeeper and explained why I was there. She assumed that I was hoping to sell a listing on my site or to sell an advertisement. She couldn't believe it when I said I didn't want any money. "Then how do you make a profit?" "I don't." I do it for the satisfaction I get from helping out so many folks.

Thanks for your words of encouragement.

I remember last time I posted a snide response to a similar post, some people thought I was serious, so I will follow up this time with assurances that my previous statement was DRIPPING with sarcasm!!! It is meant to express my contempt for people who would scam others for money. Tony and I get great pleasure out of giving info to others. The reason I started my website was due to all the help I got from message boards, DIS, and websites such as www.wdwig.com for planning WDW vacations. It's just a small way of payback. We are very fortunate to be able to vacation frequently, but for many people a Disney Cruise is a vacation of a lifetime that they have been saving up for. I love to help them make the most of it and have a great time by having all the "inside info." It just really burns me when I see people taking advantage of others...it amazes me that money means so much to them that it's worth misleading and cheating others.
