Wonderful picture of your cat, you got the eyes nice and sharp! $500 for that lens is actually a pretty good deal!

Nice test shot and a very fair price for a lens like that. Is it a stabilized lens? Surprised you were able to use 1/30th of a second.

No, its not a stabilzed lens. There's no way I could afford the VC version. It looks brand new. Not a mark on it anywhere.

Nice sharp shot at 1/30th and ~124mm!

Be sure to practice shooting moving objects in low light. You will still need a decently fast shutter speed to minimize motion blur, which also means you'll still need to bump your ISO pretty high.

Depending on what size you're printing, or resizing too, your camera's high iso noise performance, and your sensitivity to high iso noie, noise may not be a huge issue. I'm ok with my camera shooting at iso 6400, and I've even shot at 12800 with acceptable outcomes. For family shots, and candids to share with family and friends, I usually resize 20MP images down to 10-12MP (good enough for small prints), and if lighting is tough with mixed temperature lights, I will convert to B&W.

post some pics if it works for cheer competitions. That older non-IS version of the Tamron 70-200 2.8 is much criticized for it's poor AF on the POTN forums. but maybe cheerleading is not as demanding on the auto focusing as other sports
