Emilie is LOVES Glee. She listens to the music all of the time, and she watches the episodes all of the time. If we hear a song sung by the original artist she believes that the Glee cast sung it first. So, today I'm on iTunes and I look up the song Imagine. I have her listen to it, and I tell her that this is who originally sang it and that his name is John Lennon. She replies and tells me that the deaf people on Glee sang this song. I corrected her and let her know that John Lennon sang it first. She came over and in a loud whisper said, "Yeah, well, they sang it better on Glee"

Glee's version of "don't stop believing" is better than the original.

I <3 Glee. At first I thought it was going to be like High School Musical (I severly dislike those films) but was much better, and the songs are amazing. Also, some of the stuff Sue Sylvester says is just plain funny.

Get her to listen to some Beatles, then she will know how good he is!

Glee is amazing, but it is good to appreciate a classic too!

I like Glee music and the show is really growing on me. I especially love the Glee version of Alone sung by Mr. Schue and Kristen Chenowith's character whose name escapes me.:cutie:

But I prefer the John Lennon version of "Imagine". Sorry it is his song.

We've just had our first exprerience with Glee. Haven't seen the TV show but my dd7 has just jointed a Musical Theatre Company. One of the songs they are doing is 'Dont Stop Believing'. I think in the week she has been there, I have heard that song about 150 times with absolutely no exageration.

I didn't want to like it, and when my wife was watching I acted like I wasn't, but actually I was. Now I'm a full fledged Gleek, and can't wait for the show to resume. It's clever, funny, edgy, all at once. The characters are appealing, and the singing is pretty darn good. The mere fact they covered a Lily Allen song (Smile) had me hooked.;)

Every part of Glee makes me happy. If I were Jerry McGuire, Glee would complete me.

I teach elementary school and saw some 5th grade girls RE-ENACTING the choreography from this number. Although my favorite has been their cover of Queen's "Somebody to Love" Did you know that you can buy their arrangements for choirs?

I too, am a Gleek. We watched the first "teaser" episode this past summer and were HOOKED. What really got me was the scene where Emma showed Will the footage of himself performing in high school and reminded him how happy he was when he was performing because for the first time, he knew who he was and where he belonged. If you're a musician or any kind of performer, that scene probably made you tear up. I know it did for me!

DS is just beginning to read and he picked up the Glee CD case in the backseat this afternoon. After a few minutes of him studying it, he pipes up "Mom! I wanna hear Sweet Caroline!"

I have two favs! I think they do "No Air" better and I had never heard "Defying Gravity" before. I like how the cast of "Wicked" does it, but LOVE Glee's version so much more! That show just makes me happy.

I think it's great that things like Glee and Rock Band are educating kids on music :) I might get flamed for this but .... When I was a kid in the 70's, my parents always had the radio on - in the house, in the car, etc. Now I have friends that cave to their kids and listen to crap like "Kid's Bop" and other kid-type remakes of mostly decent songs. So now these kids grow up without knowing real music. Case in point! A couple of years ago the Jonas Brothers sang with Stevie Wonder at the Grammy's and didn't even know the words to Superstition! I think that's a tragedy! And my friend's son heard "Who are You" by the Who on the radio the other day and said that they "made" a song from the CSI song ... bah!

So I'm glad that there is something out there making these kids realize that there is other stuff out there - not just Hannah Montana, etc. Kids might even like that other stuff!

Well, I also think by doing this, you're teaching kids there's a heritage to music. It's not all in the here and now. Everything that exists today has been built on what has come before. I LOVE teaching my music students about the history of rock n' roll. It really teaches them that there's more out there than what is being played on the radio.

And as for the Kidz Bop stuff, why don't you just listen to the real thing? :confused3

I love Glee because it brings back High School Music days from the 80's. Although I'm not a Lima Loser I grew up not too far from there, in Indiana in the "show choir" days. My DD almost 8 loves the CD's but we won't let her watch the show. Too many things I am not ready to explain yet. I want to savor her innocence as long as I can. But we do have the arguments about who sang it first. Of course I pull out my ipod and prove my point. DD is very musical she plays the paino and loves to sing and I have to say I really enjoy sharing music with her and when she discovers a new (old) song or new (old) band. Currently she is turning away from the Disney Channel Stars and is liking new things......now it's Hairspray and Grease...(music only no movies yet):littleangel:

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

I'm just kidding!!! I will admit, I don't care for Glee, but several renditions ARE better! I refuse to listen to Journey do "Don't Stop Believin'" now- Glee does it WAY BETTER!!!

But regarding ANYTHING done by a BEATLE.... it is NEVER EVER EVER better on Glee!!! NEVAH!!! :lmao:

I like the Glee versions of songs, but the originals tend to be better, except for maybe "Don't Rain on My Parade"

I think I am obsessed with Glee - I just love the music in it - shame we have to wait for it so long in the UK!!!
