I am so upset.

"The battle plan only lasts until the first arrow flies" is my favourite iteration of that.

Very very true, though that is what complicates the drive on Disney's part to have us more and more locked in to our plans.

Because of this thread, I've now made early morning adr's and adr's around 10:30 just in case disney switches their hours in May. I'm ready for it.

Again I did not realize me being upset and venting would cause this. My headline was prob a bit dramatic but I wrote it in the moment and I was upset. I know that the early ADR doesn't promise anything I understand that but I also did not know that Disney changes their times like this especially at the last minute. I really did not know. So guess I should be punished for not knowing every single detail about Disney, does that mean I should not go either but the element of surprise wasn't a good one and threw me off guard. Me posting my original post shouldn't upset anyone unless you to were bothered by the news. Why people who don't even know get so worked up because someone else is complaining. I have yet to try the new FP+ but I am almost positive I am going to love it. I dont want to rush around to kiosk looking for Fast passes. I think having three I def want is great. But all those post about people hating it. I guess I should go on those threads and insult all those people and tell them they are being big babies and there are starving children in Africa???? Should I people who posted negatively to my post? You all can throw your issues at me and say there are worst things in the world, but do you have any idea about my life? My struggles what has happened to me or my loved ones? DO YOU? I could be going through something horrible right now but you have no idea so to assume that I need to be put into perspective and have other world problems thrown in my face is a bit juvenile. When people get upset or react over something small maybe its because something else entirely different is happening in their life and it was the tipping point. This forum is made to help people I understand that but I read many many post about people not happy with things. Maybe those who get so angry with people upset should start a forum called all rainbows and sunshine and its made a rule that you are not allowed complain, vent or be upset with anything!!!!!!!!

I agree with you OP. It's not like anyone who clicked on your thread entitled, "I am So Upset" would assume it was a rainbow and unicorn post about Disney.
You have a right to voice your opinion on a vacation planning forum. Maybe if you were posting your complaints on the " I was just diagnosed with a fatal disease" forum, people would have a right to call you out.
There are tons of Rainbow and Unicorn posts that people can choose to read. They can choose to ignore the negative posts, but it's much more fun to trivialize and belittle someone who has a gripe about their vacation.
Its really tough planning a vacation. As the vacation planner, you somehow feel responsible if things do not go exactly as planned or if someone in your group does not enjoy themselves. Yes right now, it's all in your imagination, but that's still an important part of the planning process. You have a right to your anxieties and where else can you go to vent?
I know you will have a fabulous time because you'll be so focused on the wonder you see in your children's eyes that everything else will fade away.

Please don't take it personally. These types of comments are on here all of the time. So while it is hurtful to you, it's been done to others before as well. Not that that makes it any better.

And yes, people should be able to post a vent about something going awry with their Disneyworld vacation planning because of something Disney did without getting starving children thrown back in their face.

I hope you have a great trip.

In all seriousness, the above isn't common sense or fact. It's assumption, because that's why Disney has opened early in the past. But they're in "testing" and this is the first holiday season with FP+ in full effect for *all* guests. For all we know, they're choosing to open an hour earlier because they're doing some kind of data collection for FP+ to try and predict how things will go over Christmas week.

I'm truly not trying to blame all things on FP+ here, I just don't think the reasons Disney is changing operating hours is necessarily set in stone or can be automatically assumed the way it is above. We'll never know, of course, so there's no real debate to be had there.
Occam's razor.

Oh come on now, when someone posts a "distress" thread, there are about 3 different helpful responses you can get:
Commiserate - "oh man, that sucks for you, I feel your pain!"
Fixer: "here's what I'd do, why don't you try this"
Look on the bright side: "the sun will come out tomorrow, focus on the positive, hey it could be worse, look at what you DO have"

Maybe even a 4th: tough love/boot camp - "get over yourself! Dust off and try again!"

We (DISers) don't know each other here, you never know which approach will resonate with another poster. One approach doesn't help you, obviously, but that doesn't make it invalid OR mean. There's more that one reply here of each type, and usually happens on other posts too along with so one bashing them for their outlook (same posters every time? I don't know)

Of course I agree that name calling or rude language are unneeded, but just because someone approaches problems differently than you do, doesn't make them wrong or cruel.

It is ironic that the best advice is "go with the flow" when all of us have been taught to "plan, plan, plan". ;)

I would cancel and take advantage of the early RD. Disney is doing this for a reason....it's going to be super crowded!

I totally get there will be different responses to post like these and I dont expect everyone to feel sorry for me or anyone at that matter. And I appreciate all those responses you posted except for the plain rude and mean ones. Which there were. There were post that were just rude and I am sorry but if people feel the need to come on here and just bad mouth people and be rude because of other peoples concerns then they are not nice people and honestly have no business being on any kind of forum. There's no need for it. But I do understand that this is the internet and everyone is different and I will get all types of responses from people.

I may be in the minority but i support the OP.

Disney has developed a system that makes people plan out very minute details of their trip very far in advance. Some may say...oh, but you don't have to. Well if you don't, you risk not being able to do something or not being able to eat somewhere.

If Disney is going to make you plan stuff out that early, they should have their ducks in a row. Unless there is something that warrants a change, its very unlikely that Disney can't predict crowd levels with all the data points they have.

It's not a realistic outlook though. To say I made plans, so they can never change anything. That stuff happens all the time. You plan to ride the Haunted Mansion but they take it down for refurbishment during your entire trip. You want that dish you loved so much at Coral Reef last year but they take it off the menu. You booked a restaurant but they close it down for a private party. You were looking forward to seeing Off Kilter and their contract is discontinued. Of course you are going to be annoyed and disappointed and you are entitled to be, but to declare that Disney is at some sort of fault and should never change anything because it might disturb someone's plans is unrealistic. Everything they change will disturb someone's plans.

I think people are legitimately surprised to find Disney treat their plans in such a cavalier fashion.

Would Disney even be expected to realize that the OP booked a breakfast prior to park opening because she expected to be able to take photos on an empty or near empty Main Street? Even if they did are they required to put her expectations over their presumed need to open the park earlier to make way for anticipated crowds?

A friendly word of advice, for the OP and all those who are trying to craft the perfect plan.

You know that famous old quote, "No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy?" Well, no touring plan survives contact with WDW. :lmao:

This might be the first unforeseen change of plans you've had to deal with, but I guarantee, it won't be the last. Rides will break down. Buses will be late. Kids need to go potty just when you finally get to the front of the ride queue that you've been standing in for 45 minutes. Or will refuse to get on half the rides because they look scary. Or will break down crying at the MK entrance because they want to go back to the hotel and swim. That actually happened to relatives of mine, and I had thought the story in the Unofficial Guide was an exaggeration.

Anyway, my point is, it's pretty much a sure thing that you're not going to get to do all the things you've planned. But you are going to get to do loads of wonderful, fun, amazing things, and you'll make memories with your family that your kids will still be talking about when they've got kids. Don't get so caught up in the things you're not doing, that you don't enjoy the things you are doing. In the big picture, that missed picture in the 'empty' MK will mean nothing. You'll come home with a camera full of amazing photos. :)

Yep :thumbsup2 Or they'll decide that the most fascinating thing in all of Disney are the real, commonplace ducks that are waddling around the landscape. I know that's an oft repeated joke but it definitely happened to me on my son's first trip! :rotfl:

Great post by the way.

Some great advice here on how to salvage your planned day going awry. Have a wonderful time; it will be magical for your little ones!

That's what I thought as well - as far as I know early ADRs aren't offered and promoted by Disney as a way to get into the park early. If they did market them that way (and charged more for them) I think people would have a legitimate complaint.

Occam's razor.

I'm not saying it's a negative thing, or a bad thing. I just don't think crowds are tremendously increasing at these points in December. Schools aren't letting out any earlier than they ever have...in fact, because of when Christmas falls this year, many schools are staying in school until much closer to the holiday than in other years. I know DH's mom, who works in an elementary school, doesn't get off until Dec 22nd.

The weeks after the Christmas parade taping, but before the 19th/20th or so of December have traditionally been lower crowd times. If they were going to experiment with the FP+ system, I'd expect them to do it then rather than over the holidays where they'll have capacity crowds. That theory seems to play out in Disney's execution, given the FP+ only tests in Sept and Oct.

Let's use the wisdom of The Doctor about life and apply it to this: It is made up of "a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa the bad things don’t always spoil the good things or make them unimportant."

Yeah, I got screwed out of Extra Magic Hours for one of my MK nights in September.

They really shouldn't change the hours within like a month or so. People have their plans all ready and it screws everything up.
