Okay, so I now have a new wedding planner! This is my 4th in the last 9 months, and though she is nice, I just don't seem to click with her at all.

I emailed her a couple days ago regarding the final cost of upgrading our cake to a custom cake, which I was told by my FIRST planner that the price would be approximately $300 (which I was fine with). WELL, I get an email this morning that the price is almost $1000!!! You read right, almost $1000 for upgrading a cake, and that is with the credit of the intimate cake!!! :sad2:

I just can't believe this. BG and I are paying for this wedding ourselves, and though we both work full time and are not short on cash by any means, I refuse to pay $1300 for a cake for 20 people!! :furious:

Sorry to let it all out here, I just needed to vent. BG says I can have whatever I want, I just don't think I can make myself pay that much for a cake....

Thanks ladies!

OMG! You poor thing! Don't you apologize, that's what we're here for. To help each other out! And that's definitely something I'd need to vent over! I would call up the New WP and tell them you had aranged the upgrade in the $300 range and that $1000+ was well more than you were going to even consider spending! But, calm down first and make sure you don't scream at this new person, she probably has no idea what you discussed with the other WP as they are all very busy and can't remember to tell everyone everything...I have learned this myself just lately! It'll be ok, Just remember to breath! :thumbsup2

Why do they keep giving you new WP's? I would be upset about that!

I am having a five layer, custom cake and its around 1,000. Im thinking that that price is way too high. Id be pretty upset about that fact. good luck!

WHAT? 1000 bucks for a cake for twenty people? Is it super elaborate or something? I mean--is it covered in 24 karat gold? Maybe she misquoted? It happens. She may have gotten your quote mixed up with someone else.

Why don't you wait until you are feeling a little more peace, love, and Mickey, and call her. I hate it for you that you are upset! Planning should be fun!

Maybe it is time to call and speak to the supervisor, and explain that while you think your new planeer is perfectly nice, there is an issue with this price quote-- and you are concerned over the revolving door planner thing. I started planning my intimate Dec wedding back in June, and I have had the same planner throughout. :confused3

Good luck, and try not to let it upset you. :grouphug:

Sorry about all the changes  ....and dont worry about the cake...find out what they have written down, and then make them adjust it to fit your budget...I always thought they just throw these prices at us just to see if we would pay them....

Aww i'm sorry-that must be so frustrating! My first planner and I didn't click at all-plus instead of her finding out for me her answer would immediately be "no" even when it was possible. I spoke with a supervisor and changed planners-things have been going great ever since. I highly recommend working with a planner that you click with-the planning process will actually be fun!

Thank you all for your support. Sometimes I feel that this is all just so overwhelming....

I called the bakery for myself today and spoke with the head pastry chef. Things have started to work out, and he is doing his best to help me. I will keep you all posted as to the outcome.

All brides have stress, but sometimes I think that stress is heightened by the distance many of us are dealing with. We are all trying to plan a wedding, some more extravegant than others, from hundreds of miles away. It is the support of others dealing with this stress that makes me feel comfortable turning to you all.

Thanks again, for everything... :wizard:

I'm 8 months from my custom wedding at Disney. We should be receiving our contract within the next few days, so we don't know much about the budget. How much does an average Disney cake cost? Is that included in the minimum food and beverage cost? Thanks for any help.

Angela--I bet I speak for everyone here when I say, "You are so welcome!"

For me the stressful bit about doing a destination wedding is the feeling of not being in control--having to rely on others to do what they say they will, and all at a great distance. But destination or otherwise, it all comes down to that trust thing.

But then, I am a bit of a control freak and very detail oriented, so....like "Monk" would say...it's a blessing....and a curse...

LOL.

I remind myself that Disney runs a pretty tight ship, and they have an aggressive quality program---but---PLEASE God, don't let me be the one they go to school on. :bitelip:

dznyfan--I'm sorry I can't help. We are just doing the standard cake thing.

My first planner and I didn't click at all-plus instead of her finding out for me her answer would immediately be "no" even when it was possible.
::yes:: I had the same experience starting out. I switched WPs and just started telling her what I wanted, instead of asking for it, i.e. "I've heard that this can be done..." or "Someone I know did this...". Things haven't been perfect, but I'm learning to let the not-perfect things roll off my back. Pick your battles and whatnot... :)

I have been here. My planning had it's moments believe me. Things got so bad at one point I had a planning session with the head of DFTW to sort things out, which they did beautifully.
At the time I could have cried, in fact I did cry, it was so stressful, but everyone here kept telling me how things Will work out because Disney are the best.
Trust me, take a deep breath and keep calm, it will be ok.

I wanted to upgrade my cake from the intimate to a cake with shells on it, since we were having a Yacht Club wedding, but they quoted something daft like $700.
I just could not warrant it for the 17 people I had. So I stayed with the intimate cake, and you know it was the best decision I made. The intimate is so pretty, and it tasted lovely.I dont have any regrets on that at all.
If you are still not happy as I wouldn't be after 4 planners (I had 2), I would speak to the head guy jeff.ralls@disney.com and ask him to look into it.
There are many silly policies that Disney have, that make you think, but why????
But I am so glad I had my wedding there. There's no where else on earth as magical as that place. Good luck.

Wow, thank you for all the information, the same thing happened to us as well but we weren't even quoted a price for upgrading the cake yet!

See another post but our WC was reassigned and at first I thought it was just me asking too many questions but from reading this post I see I'm not alone :thumbsup2

We can't find out details on our reception, cake, flowers, anything! I was told to wait for the new one to call us but that hasn't happened yet.

Will take charge as the others have suggested, thanks everyone!!

i think what can sometimes happen is that certain cakes can only be made for a minimum number of people! my custom cake can only be done for a minimum of 50people but the one i wanted before was a minimum of 75ppl! obviously this shoots the price right up!as well as more elaborate/custom cakes. so do work with DFTW until you get the price you want!!
