I am so tired of people who say all coupons are for junk!

I get milk coupons in the regular Sunday circular. Sometimes they are for Roberts brand--which I use at Target and get milk cheaper than Target brand. Some are for Land O Lakes brand and I use those to get even cheaper milk at the Commissary (already the cheapest of the regular prices in my area).
Egg coupons aren't as frequent, unless they are for Eggland's Best, but once in a while they come in the Sunday coupons, too.

Oh, and I am on a coupon train here on the budget board. I cut ALL coupons from the Sunday paper (I only buy 1), keep what I want, and send the others to my buddy. I also receive and envelope full of coupons from another buddy each week. I pull out any I want and forward the rest on down the train. It costs me about $1 a week to do this, but I get more than that from the coupon train, so it pays for itself and doesn't take much time.

I forgot to add to my list above: Butterball turkey. I had a coupon for any dinner meat and bought turkey breast tenders and ground turkey breast.

I have never, I repeat never seen a coupon for milk in my Sunday paper. And cereal, I just posted about how I used a coupon with a BOGO and my son hates it, so I wasted money, the rest of us aren't cereal eaters. I won't buy 3-4 boxes to save $1.00 and that is what most of the coupons are, My son will get sick of it.

I am glad it works for you, but it done't for me, AS with the above listed stuff, my dog's food never goes on sale, she is on a special food.

I will stick with Costco, it is cheaper than most stores. EVen the Egglands best, they are way cheaper at Costco WITHOUT a coupon.

These coupons are free. Thank you for paying for my time to gather, sort and mail them.

Lol, so which is it? Do you buy them or are they free.?

I don't get ANY of my coupons from a newspaper. I don't even get a newspaper. I use ebay, clipping services, and manufacturer's websites of the products I buy. I couldn't tell you what comes in my inserts. A sunday paper here is 2.00, I can buy the coupon of what I want for 12 cents from a couponing service.

I only have 2 people in my family. Me and my daughter. I don't find I save the most money on food with coupons, I feel I save the most money on the household items, plus pet items.

I've never saved 90%, but I always save 50% no matter where I go. Coupons and store sales.

Knock it all you want. If you try, if you look, you can make it work. But you have to put the time into it.

Yes egglands best are $4 but if you watch the sales they go B1G1 (so $2 each) and I got them when Harris teeter was doing super doubles so that $1 coupon doubled to $2 and yup I got them for FREE...would I even normally think I would buy egglands...nope but I cut the coupon anyway and look what it did. I actually had a few of those coupons and ended up with like 6 dozen eggs. So I did a ton of baking and cooking with eggs.

Also alot of you are saying you only get junk coupons well that is not true. MAybe your paper has junk. I agree one of my local papers is like that. But you obviously have access to the internet (since you are on here). and recently I have gotten coupons by liking facebook pages, free coffee creamer (yes I know probably junk but my guilty pleasure) and sites like coupons.com have had decent coupons. I have also recently gotten B1G1 free coupons for eggs (and yes you can buy the store brand) or even milk although I think I had to buy 1/2 gallon of chocolate milk and I got a free gallon of regular milk (even if i threw out the chocolate made the gallon cheaper).

Some weeks the paper will have junk but I usually find at least 1 good coupon every week (usually more like 5) and every penny helps the budget.

I have never seen eggland go BOGO. Maybe in your store. That is all we use. If we run out, I wait until I go to Costco again.

THe point is that there are no coupons for GOOD HEALTHY foods:

apples
bananas
fish
grapes
carrots
lettuce
broccoli
cauliflower
asparagus
green beans

FRESH foods not canned/boxed/processed foods.

Get it now? :confused3

Actually, I have a coupon off of Sweetings tomatoes and a coupon for clementines. So yes, you can get fresh fruit and veggie coupons. And those came out of the coupons in Sunday's paper.

If you fan Driscoll berries on Facebook, you can print out a coupon for .50 off any type of berries, but I guess berries are high processed high fat foods.

I see Dole coupons, wine hangtags, grocery rebates from beer companies(don't have to buy the beer in several states, but that's another debate), cuties coupons, and other produce coupons attached to the purchase of another item all the time.

We get milk coupons here, but the name brand is still higher that store brand with doubling. We also get egg coupons, but a chicken is a chicken so brand doesn't matter here.

On top of that, many grocers have $5 off $50 coupons, which are good on produce, Kroger has senior discount days for the older folks, Meijer often has 5% off with a Meijer CC. I just use the money I save by getting free toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc and reinvest in some produce.

Nope-I don't buy the statement that no coupons exist for non processed items. They aren't as popular, but they do exist.

two words from the world of us couponers: WINE TAGS!

Lol, so which is it? Do you buy them or are they free.?

Sorry I didn't do the whole copy and post thing, kind of thought it was pointless but I was responding to this.

Also...not to be a Debbie Downer, but if you read the coupon fine print most of them say if it was bought, sold, traded, etc it is void...so TECHNICALLY you aren't suppose to use coupons you got off of Ebay or a coupon train. I know, I know I could care less what people do but if you only stuck to the coupons in your local paper would you be able to say you have that great of coupons for your area? I am all for printing off the internet coupons from the manufacturer etc if they are out there, but I simply can't find coupons for milk (and even other items) that WITH the coupon make it cheaper than Aldi's or Walmart's store brand.

I'm technically not buying the coupons, I'm buying their time.

Again, I greatly apologize for not using the copy and paste feature.

two words from the world of us couponers: WINE TAGS!

YOu know, someone told me about this probably 6 months ago, I check every time I am in the store, which is about 2 times a week. NOt once have a found any wine with a tog for any type of coupon. Maybe it is regional, but I know my store like the back of my hand, and they aren't there, or maybe all the hoarders have taken them. lol

two words from the world of us couponers: WINE TAGS!

Our grocery stores don't sell wine or beer with the except of Trader Joes so I doubt there would be tags. Also, if you are taking the tag without buying the product it is hanging on that is basically stealing.

You can find so many different coupons if you take the time and know where to look for them. So many are not willing to put in the time or the knowledge.

Technically is the key word.;) But even in that case typically the verbiage reads as follows (copied straight off a coupon I have in my hand):

"Void if altered, copied, sold, purchased, transferred, exchanged or where prohibited by law".

No matter how ya spin it it's TECHNICALLY void.

Again...I really don't care how people use them, but I just wonder if people strictly used their area coupons, or printed off the "allowed amount" without "stretching the rules" could you still take a decent percentage off of your bill?

Actually there are. They are hard to find but they are out there. I just sent in a $5/$5 fresh meat rebate a couple weeks ago(I get 4-6 of those per year on average). And used a $3 off fresh fruits ones in March and again a couple months before that. Just because you can't find them or know how to get them doesn't mean they don't exist.

I also get ones for carrots every month from Kroger. And milk and meat and fresh produce and eggs.

Not necessarily so. In IN, there is no alcohol purchase required, therefore they are not 'connected' with the alcohol purchase. And often they don't even put them on the bottles they just toss them on the shelf or put up the coupons attached to the shelf.

You do realize that wine tags do not exist everywhere, we do not have them in our whole state, let alone anywhere near me.

You can legally print 2 coupons online. You can legally buy as many papers as you want. I have no stockpile. I do use coupons. If I'm buying it and there's a coupon, I saved money. It's a necessity for me. I need to save ever penny I can. I should have never said anything to begin with. I use coupons all the time. My house isn't over flowing and I don't just eat junk.

WOW!!!
For being made today, this thread is hopping!:lmao: I have always used coupons, ever since I could remember. I learned from my mom many years ago when couponing and refunding was, in my humble opinion, so much better. Coupons are out there for any and everything, for food, clothing, housewares, paint, restaurant meals, etc, you just need to be patient and persistant. Everywhere you look, you will see coupons. Some have mentioned the hang tags (wine bottles for cheese, bread, fruit), there are the machines placed by items in the store to spit out coupons when you walk by, there are coupons printed on the boxes themselves, sometimes inside, sometimes outside, there are codes on items to enter at a company's site to redeem for a coupon for an item or $$ off, the catalinas print off when you purchase your groceries, and there are the ones in the newspapers.
All stores have restrictions on coupons and sales. You can find this online. Costco even puts out coupons!
I would suggest anyone looking to cut their grocery bill, but doesn't want to use coupons, is to make a list of items you use in your home, and create a price book. Then shop accordingly to stock up.
:thumbsup2 Happy shopping, saving and trips to Disney!

Coupons are not just for food...Kohls, Victoria Secret, Home Depot to just name a few. ;)

Absolutely. We don't have a single coupon insert in our newspapers. Grocery stores are twice the cost of Walmart. It would take an extra $10 worth of gas to go to different grocery stores to shop sales with coupons. I have helped my wife out by scouring the internet looking for coupons on all the sites that I've read about in the various threads right here. I've spent probably an hour per day looking for coupons for the past 3 or 4 weeks.

Monday I went into work half an hour early. I made 1500 times what my wife has saved in coupons this whole month by me spending about 15 hours looking for and printing coupons for her over the past 3 weeks by going to work 30 minutes early on Monday.

15 hours searching for crappy coupons, or go to work 1 day half an hour early.... I'll take the go to work half an hour early.

That was my point...I find I save enough purchasing smartly using sales and warehouse stores w/o having to depend on coupons alone.

I also utilize in store coupons or ones that are attached to items. I just don't sit w/ the paper each week coupon cutting and organizing.
That's great! You're helping me make my point. My way isn't right for you, but I'm not going to tell you that all Costco sells is junk.;) Just like coupons are right for me, and not all coupons are for junk!

Costco isn't convenient to me. I tried Sam's Club on a trial last summer but it didn't work for me. I am brand loyal for certain things--tp, for instance--and they don't have what I like. Also, I have the ability to shop at a military commissary, and warehouse club prices aren't better for the most part--especially not with the membership fee and the extra drive.

Coupons are not just for food...Kohls, Victoria Secret, Home Depot to just name a few. ;)
:thumbsup2I use those, too!

I guess I don't find couponing to be all that inconvenient. I spend a few minutes each week cutting and filing and then I go to the store. I don't shop only coupon items, but if they're there, I'm getting the paper anyway, then I figure why not? It's like free money to me. I'm not perfect--sometimes I like to buy junk. I love the occasional Oreo or M&M coupon!:)Some shopping trips I save $10, sometimes it's $75, some coupons are for junk, and some are for good stuff!
